The Quiet Girl

***

Sitting by the window, watching the clouds
Trying to escape the loud screaming thoughts
Counting the hours until she'll be able to see
The things that were and the things that will be

Trapped in her own ever-spinning mind
With nowhere else, able to hide
Way too shy to tell anyone
And too embarrassed to confide in her mum

So different she saw the world around
Than the people around her, she found
'She's a creep, just wait and see'
Was all she heard and decided to pretend to be

Be the girl that let nothing get to her
Be just like her classmates were
'Never let them see the real you'
Was the sentence that dragged her through

Cause if they saw, she was sure
Even more teasing she would have to endure
So she kept going, day by day
Quietly, yet she'd have so much to say

Not able to bear the weight of her thoughts
Longing for something that can't be bought
She wrote a letter, placed on the bed
Placed for her mother to be found and read

It was the quietness that got her slowly
Dragged her under - made her lonely
Why did nobody see the beauty
That lie beneath all the things people pity

And all it would have taken
Was one ear willing to listen
One shoulder she could've leaned on
For the pain slowlyto be gone
