Chapter 8: I Wanna Be More Than You're Thinking Of

(A/N, long title, I know..also this will probably suck cause I need a filler chapter)

"Daddy! There's smoke in the kitchen again!" Amelie shouted, running into the living room, tugging at Dallon's jeans. "Daddy!"
"I heard the first time." Dallon said, dropping the laundry basket on the floor, taking off running into the kitchen, grabbing a towel to try and fan the smoke away a bit.
"Fire!" Knox exclaimed.
"I'm aware of that, bud." Dallon said, opening the oven, smoke pouring out. He quickly grabbed the blackened food from inside, tossing it into the sink. "So much for meatloaf."
"Do we get to go out again?" Amelie asked, looking up at her father. He nodded slowly, sighing as he picked his children up. He felt like he couldn't do anything right, at all. Brendon always seemed to have everything together, other parents did too, but the Weekes family house was a mess.
Dallon buckled the kids in the car, getting another call from Ryan. He pulled out his phone answering his friend. "Hey, what's up?"
"DALLON GUESS WHAT!?" Ryan shouted, Dallon having to move his phone away from his head so his eardrums didn't explode.
"Hey, Ry, what's up?" Dallon asked.
"Remember that gig we tried to get two months ago? Well we got it!"
"What!? When? How?" Dallon asked, beginning to get excited.
"Tonight and tomorrow night, they people needed someone else to cover for them since the other band backed out, so that means us!" Ryan replied. "We need to be there at five."
"That's in two hours!"
"So?"
"I have kids."
"Get a babysitter!"
"I'mma one up you and get Brendon." Dallon said.
"BRENDON!?" Amelie shrieked. "Brendon's coming over!?"
"Amee, I'm on the phone." Dallon said. "Yeah, Ryan, I'll get him, okay I gotta go. Bye."

Amelie was bouncing up and down in her seat, grinning. "Brendon's coming over!?"
"Yeah, Bren is coming over!" Dallon replied. "I'm gonna be busy tonight and tomorrow night, so he'll be here okay?"
"Okay." Knox said quietly.
"Yay! We're gonna have so much fun!" Amelie exclaimed.
"That's the spirit, Amee!" Dallon said. "Shoot, I gotta call Brendon, um...kids, can one of you call him, I have to pay attention to the terrible traffic."
"Me!" Amelie exclaimed, grabbing Dallon's phone before he could say anything else. She held up the phone to her head, having to hold it with both hands to keep it up. "Brendon!? Are you there!?"

Dallon smiled a bit, as he heard Amelie excitedly talking to his boyfriend. "Honey, you need to tell him that he needs to come over tonight in thirty minutes."
"Okay, Daddy." Amelie replied. "Brendon, Daddy says you gotta come over in thirty minutes." She handed Dallon his phone back, tapping him on his head with it.
Dallon sighed, taking his phone back "'Ello?"
"Hey, Dal! So I need to head over to your place in half an hour?" Brendon asked.
"Yeah that would be awesome, babe."
"Why so sudden, darlin? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah everything's great actually, my band has a show tonight and tomorrow night...and Ryan's in my band...so yeah."
"Baby! I'm so happy for you! Congrats!" Brendon exclaimed.
"Thanks, babe, I'm super excited...so you'll be over soon?"
"Yeah I will be, don't worry!"
"Okay, love you."
"Love you too."
Dallon smiled, putting his phone down. "Okay, maybe we could just pick up something quick, then we'll come back, okay guys?"
"'Kay, Daddy!" Amelie and Knox said.

--------

Amelie jumped out of the car as soon as they got back home, spotting Brendon's car already in the driveway. She shrieked excitedly, running into the man's arms, hugging him tightly. "Bren! I missed you!"
"Aw, hi, Amee!" Brendon laughed, picking the little girl up. "Hey, babe." Dallon smiled, kissing his boyfriend while holding Knox.
"Thanks for looking after the kids while I'm busy, baby."
"Of course! Gotta keep them outta trouble." Brendon replied. "Ooh I see takeout..what did you get?"
"Chick-fil-A..I burned the food again.."
"Aw babe, I can cook if you'd like me to."
"That's okay, don't worry about it, just look after the kids for me please."
Brendon nodded, walking inside the house, noticing the mess but pretended that he didn't.
"Okay I gotta go to practice." Dallon said.
"I thought you had to leave in two hours or something." Brendon said, following Dallon upstairs.
"Yeah but I need to check the venue, make sure we have everything set up..all that shit." Dallon replied, wrapping his arms around Brendon. "Thanks for-" he was cut off by his boyfriend suddenly kissing him gently, breaking away quicker than he expected.
"Have fun, you're gonna do amazing."
"I hope I will."
"I know you will, I've heard you sing and play bass..you're incredible, so just do what you always do." Brendon said, putting his hands against Dallon’s chest. "I'm so proud of you."
"I love you, now I gotta go." The taller man said.
"Okay, I love you too." Brendon said before watching Dallon leave. He took a deep breath, looking at the mess around him, trying to keep his cool.
"Brendon! Wanna come play with me?" Amelie asked, pulling on his shirt.
"Actually, I have a game planned for all of us, it's called Let's Clean The House Before Dad Gets Back." Brendon said.
"That doesn't sound like fun.." Knox chimed in.
"You get candy for every job you do."
"I'm in!" Amelie exclaimed. "If there's candy I'll do it!"
"That's probably not a good thing.." Brendon muttered, "okay guys, so your jobs are to clean your rooms, then the living room okay? Then Amelie, you'll help me with dishes, and Knox, you and me are doing laundry."
The kids looked at each other, then shrugged. "Okay!''

"Brendoooooon!" Amelie called, running into Dallon's room. "What's for dinner?"
"You just ate lunch, honey." Brendon laughed, then saw the time. "Oh shit it's almost eight..did you finish up your chores?"
"Yep! Except for dishes and laundry..I also helped Knox clean his room! Also you shouldn't say shit."
"I know, I'm sorry."
"Why do you not stay with Daddy?" Amelie asked, looking up at Brendon.
"What do you mean, darlin?" He replied, picking up a laundry basket full of Dallon’s dirty clothes.
"You come here and then leave..and Daddy leaves to go see you," she explained, "why can't you stay here? If you did then I can hang out with you all the time!"
"I wish I could, honey, but I don't know how your dad feels about it."
"I heard him crying last night.."
Brendon froze, looking around at Amelie. "Why was he crying?"
"After you got off your call with him, he was crying and said he wanted to be with you.." Amelie said, "also I'm hungry!"
"I'll make you some food, go get your brother and hang out downstairs for a bit okay?" Brendon said, still processing what she had said. He was surprised that Dallon wanted to be with him, but that didn't mean moving in did it?
Amelie grabbed his hand, pulling him downstairs, his thoughts fading out for the moment.
"I can help with the dishes after dinner, and we can do the laundry!" She said excitedly.
"You're really happy about these chores, Amee." Brendon commented, smiling.
"Yeah cause I get candyyyyy!"
"Fair point." He said, laughing a little as Knox walked in.
"This is boring, when will Daddy be home?"
"Late, I'm staying the night." Brendon replied.
Knox sighed, frowning a little while Amelie squealed happily. "Sleep over!!"
"Yeah!"
"I want Daddy to come home." Knox said quietly, starting to cry a little.
Brendon crouched down in front of him, tilting his head up. "Daddy will be home soon, okay? In the meantime I'm here..and I know I'm not as amazing as your dad, but I'm the substitute right now."
Knox nodded slowly, holding onto Brendon, his arms tightly wrapped around his neck. "Pick me up?"
The grown man smiled, picking him up. "Okay, I'm making grilled cheese and soup."
"Make? You can make food?" Amelie asked, genuinely surprised.
"Yeah, why?"
"I didn't know you could cook! Daddy's terrible at it!"
"Oh is he now?"
"Yeah, he made fire!" Knox exclaimed.
"Made fire?"
"Yeah! In the oven!"
Brendon bit his lip, trying not to bust up laughing. "Has he ever made good food?"
"Cereal and sandwiches..that's it."
"I see..well I can cook pretty well, so how about you kids sort the laundry, and once you're done I'll have dinner ready."
"Okay!" They both exclaimed, slipping out of Brendon's hold, running into the living room again. He smiled a little, then turned around to make the kids and himself some food.
"BRENDON! IS THIS DADDY'S SHIRT?" Amelie called, holding up a black hoodie. Brendon frowned a little, then smiled.
"No, honey, that's mine actually."
"Why does Daddy have your hoodie?"
"Cause he stole it from me, I've been looking for it for weeks now." Brendon laughed. "But just put it with Dal's clothes for now..he can keep it, I've stolen his clothes before."
"Don't you have your own clothes? Why do you need to steal Daddy's?"
"Cause..well, his clothes smell like him." Brendon said, blushing a little as he spoke, hoping Amelie would change the subject and they wouldn't have to keep talking about his and Dallon’s relationship.
"Oh okay..when is dinner gonna be ready?"
"It's done right now, go get your brother please."
"Okay!" Amelie said, running off to get Knox, then came back dragging her brother by the arm.
"Amee, we don't drag people." Brendon said, separating the two. "Okay, here's your sandwiches and soup, don't drop the soup cause it's really hot."
"Yes sir." Knox said.
"Buddy, my name's Brendon, you don’t have to call me 'sir', you can call me whatever you'd like."
"Okay, Dad."
Brendon froze, his eyes going wide. "D-did you just call..call me Dad?"
"Yeah!" Knox exclaimed, sitting down at the table next to his sister. Brendon was grinning widely, forgetting to turn the stove off as he rested his arm on the top of it.
"OW! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" Brendon exclaimed, pulling his hand off the stovetop quickly.
"What happened!?" Amelie shrieked, running over. "Are you okay!?"
"Yeah, honey, I was just being a dumbass."
"You aren't a dumbass..Bren? What's a dumbass?"
"Someone who's stupid, darlin, but thanks, did you finish your food?"
"Yeah! It was super good, Dad! Thank you!"
"Of course, my little special girl! Do you wanna watch a movie or something, then go to bed?"
"I wanna stay up till Daddy comes home!"
"That'll be late though.."
"We don't care!" Knox exclaimed, grabbing Brendon's hand. "C'mon, I wanna watch a movieeeee!"
"Okay okay okay, what movie?"
Amelie pointed to the Harry Potter movies, beaming. "Those!"
"Um..are you sure you won't get scared?"
"Yeah!"
Brendon shrugged, putting Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on. "Okay, I guess we're watching all eight tonight."

--------------

Dallon came back home around twelve p.m., seeing Brendon and the kids on the couch. Amelie was hiding under a blanket, and Knox was staring at the tv, but would hide his face in Brendon's shoulder every few seconds.
"Hey I'm home." Dallon said, waving.
"Baby!" Brendon exclaimed, pausing the movie. "I can sleep now!"
"Hi, babe, and why are the kids up?"
"We wanted to wait for you, Daddy! I missed you!" Amelie said, crawling into Dallon's lap.
"I missed you too, sweetie, now you need sleep..let's go."
"Um..Daddy?" Knox said.
"Yeah, bud?"
"Can sissy and me stay with you and Dad?"
Dallon looked at his son for a moment, then looked up at Brendon. "Did he call you-"
"Yep..they've been doing it the whole night." Brendon said. "I'm dead tired..can we please go to bed?"
"Yeah let's go." Dallon said, carrying Amelie upstairs, Brendon following behind, carrying Knox. They all got in Dallon’s bed, the kids instantly falling asleep.
"Did you have fun, baby?" Brendon asked, running his fingers through his boyfriend's hair.
"Yeah, it was really fun, I wish you'd been there though."
"I wish I was too, maybe tomorrow night? Drop these two with your parents? Or I could bring them with me."
"Yeah that could work..you should play with us!"
"It's okay, your band doesn't need me..besides, I'm happy here."
"Okay, baby, now I need sleep." Dallon said, holding his kids and boyfriend close, "I love you."
"I love you too," Brendon said, kissing Dallon, then kissed Amelie and Knox's heads, then fell asleep along with Dallon.
