Day 28

It's time for Pein to leave, like actually leave. He realized that the longer he stays with [Name], the more she starts to hate him. So in the dead of night, Pein takes one last shower before gathering his stuff. With tears threatening to spill from his eyes, he kisses his sleeping kids and ex-wife one last time.

He loved spending time with his family and deeply regrets, not only leaving [Name], but his entire family for a woman who he thought was better. Konan was only good at the moment but soon became annoying in his eyes.

He desperately wants to stay, desperately wants to show how great of a father he actually is, wants to prove to [Name] how much he adores her and the little family they created. But he knows all he would receive is a scoff and a snide comment about how he's supposed to do that anyways from [Name].

With a bag in one hand and his keys in the other, he slides into the driver seat of his car and places his bag in the front seat. A sigh escapes his lips as he takes a look at the house he had once lived in long ago. Pein starts his car and exits the driveway, heading down a long, dark, and lonely road.

...

It was the alarm that forced [Name] to wake up this morning, and she knows that she has to go back to work at some point. She has taken too many days off since Pein showed up.

As she swung her legs over the bed to place them on the floor, she threw the blankets back and rubbed her eyes. There's an intense pain in her shoulders and back as she stands up. She groans softly but continues on to the kitchen to make breakfast. Thankfully, the kids haven't awoken from their beds yet, so she makes breakfast in peace.

However, something feels off. A scent that became familiar is no longer present. The delightful boyish smell of Pein is slowly dwindling away with every sniff she gave to the air. Once she put toast in the toaster, she quickly strides to the living room where Pein would have been sleeping. Instead in his place is two neatly placed pillow cushions. She planned to check outside for his car, but she heard the toast pop out of the toaster, so she retreated back to the kitchen to continue breakfast.

Four plates of food are made and are placed all around the table. First, she goes to [S.Name's] room to wake him from his peaceful slumber, and the to [D.Name's] to rouse her up as well.  Both of them settled at the dining table, groggily eating their jelly toast and sliced fruit.

"Pein!" [Name] calls. "Come eat!"

She rolls her eyes at the lack of reply.

He's probably still upset about last night, [Name] thinks as she tries to find him.

"Don't tell me that I made this fourth plate for nothing," she grumbles. "That asshole."

She checks outside for his car and finally realizes that he's gone. "Ugh! Are you serious?!" She groans aloud. "The one time I need him to watch the kids and he's off on some day trip?"

With a sigh, she finds her phone and calls her normal babysitter; Sakura Haruno. Of course, Sakura knows exactly why [Name's] calling and doesn't need much explanation.

"Thank you Sakura, you're a lifesaver!" She praises as the phone call ends.

She returns to her kids and watches them pick the fruit off of the plate that was meant for Pein. The mother sits down and bites down on the now cold toast.

"Mommy has to go to work today, okay?" She says and both of the kids perk up. "So you'll be spending the day with Ms. Sakura."

Her son tilts his head to the side, and says, "What about daddy?"

"Papa?" [D.Name] chimes in.

"Your father is on a day trip," the mother deadpans, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. "He'll be back soon, okay?"

...

Once [Name] is on her lunch break at work, she calls Pein to see if he came back home. However, the phone continues to ring until it goes to voicemail. With a frustrated growl, she calls again, and again, and again, but there is never an answer. So she texts him instead.

Where in the hell are you?

This reminds her of the first time he left. The way he isn't responding back to texts or answering calls, and even the way he left so early without even a goodbye.

"Oh."

The gears were finally working in her head as she realized what has just happened.

"Oh fuck," she groans. "Why the hell did he leave like that?"

She shakes his head, knowing damn well the kids will be devastated to hear that their father left them, again. The mother also knows that [S.Name] is way too smart to believe any lie that she comes up with, and the best way to tell them would be telling them the truth.

With a sigh, [Name] dreads the moments to come.
