Day 27

[Name] didn't expect to stay at Kakashi's house that night. So when she felt wandering fingers on her inner thighs and a broad chest against her back, she thought it was Pein. Which is why Kakashi now has to deal with the bruise that encircles his wrist.

"I'm sorry," she apologizes as he inspects his injury. "I thought I went back home last night and I thought you were Pein."

"How could you forget about last night?" He asks, chuckling.

Her cheeks burn from embarrassment as their acts from the night before float around in her mind.

"Right, last night," she says, a sheepish laugh escaping her lips. "I'm sorry."

"I'll be fine," he says, waving it off. An awkward silence settles between them.

"I should probably get dressed and head home," [Name] says, leaving the comfort of Kakashi's bed.

She picks up her clothes that are scattered across the room. She dresses in front of him and has him zip up her dress. Kakashi dresses himself too, getting into something comfy, and also putting on his mask.

"Allow me to walk you to the door," he says, grabbing her hand. They exit the room together.

[Name] notes that Kakashi must've cleaned up while she was sleeping last night, for there's no leftover food on the table, nor any alcohol spilt all over the floor. Yeah, last night got a little crazy.

"I'm sorry about last night," she apologizes once they reach the door. "I didn't mean to make such a mess, and I also didn't mean to stay over."

Kakashi hums when the memories phase in and out if his mind. "It's fine. I had a lot of fun, and plus, I'd rather have you stay the night than go home at two in the morning."

[Name] smiles and picks up her little purse with her phone in it, which sat —conveniently — on the little table by the door. She presses a kiss to clothed lips and turns to leave.

"Thank you, Kakashi," is what she calls back at him before she enters her car and drives away.

...

Pein isn't too happy when [Name] returns home. He tries not to care, but the topic pops up two hours after her arrival.

"Why'd you stay out all night? It was just supposed to be a date," Pein says, keeping his voice low so the kids don't have to hear their parents argue.

"How was I supposed to know that dinner would turn into dinner and ice cream?" She whispers harshly.

"You could've left after you got your damn dessert," he snaps.

[Name] takes a breath, trying not to yell. In a slow, calm but daring tone, she says, "You know damn well I become sleepy after ice cream. Especially if I had more than two scoops."

"You could've called."

That's the last straw for [Name]. She throws up her hands and says rather loudly, "Your not my keeper Pein! I don't have to check in with you every time I do something. I'm a grown woman."

"Well I'm sorry I get worried about the woman I love who goes missing for a night without any notice!" He barks back. "Do you even know how many times I texted you last night? [D.Name] missed you so much she wouldn't sleep until 3 in the morning, and speaking of not sleeping, [S.Name] kept having a recurring nightmare and asked me to sing him a fucking lullaby and every single time he'd say I'm not singing it like how you'd sing it. You didn't even call to see how they were doing!"

[Name] tries to find a comeback during the time he stops talking to take a breath. Though, when Pein let's out an airy, humorless laugh, all thoughts of returning fire is gone.

"What's so funny?" She asks, her brows crease downwards.

"Just the fact that you somehow lose all sense of motherhood once you run off with your doctor boyfriend. But hey! Who am I to say anything? Cause I'm just some deadbeat, right?"

Pein walks off to go find his son and make sure he's all right. He knows their argument became a little loud, so he wants to see if [S.Name] heard any of it and make sure he isn't crying over it.

Unfortunately, the kid is teary eyed, and the first thing he says to his dad is, "You're not a deadbeat, daddy."

Pein's heart softens significantly around this child. He chuckles and crouches down to his son's level.

"Do you even know what that means?" He asks, placing a hand atop [S.Name's] head. The kid shakes his head.

"No, I don't. But, but it doesn't sound too good."

Pein laughs aloud and embraces his son. "Thank you, I appreciate it."

His little arms encircle Pein's neck and his face buries itself into the crevice of his father's neck.

"Are you and mommy going to be okay?" [S.Name] asks, sniffling.

"Yes, we're going to be fine," Pein replies, soothing his son by rubbing his back. "Don't worry about it, okay?"

The boy pulls away from the hug and nods his head. His tiny hands wipe away his tears, and he grins through the pain.

[S.Name] doesn't wish for his parents to fight. He thinks if he's a good boy, they'll stop arguing, but what he doesn't understand is that their arguing has nothing to do with him or his little sister. [Name] and Pein have two opposing opinions and they seem incapable of meeting common ground. [Name] believes Pein is stuck in his old gangster ways and lacking the experience of being a real father. Pein thinks [Name] has completely lost herself in this new boyfriend she has and it doesn't help that Pein dislikes her boyfriend too.

However, the two don't hate each other. In fact, if [Name] was not dating Kakashi, they would try to fix their old relationship and start anew; but, what they had is gone and [Name] has found a man that'll treat her like a queen.
