josh opened his eyes and groggily moaned from the bright sun coming through his curtains. he slowly sat up and rubbed the crust out of his eyes while reaching for his phone. he turned it on muttering a 'fuck' because for some reason the brightness was all the way up. his lock screen was of him and debby on a date at a drive in theater.

josh remembered that day. debby wouldn't stop complaining because she thought the movie was boring even though she assured josh that she wouldn't mind watching it. she also complained about how cold it was even while wearing josh's jacket and having a fuzzy blanket wrapped around her. she tried to convince josh to just go in the backseat of the car and have a fun time.

josh ended up missing his favorite part of the movie because he was eating out his girlfriend in the backseat of his car. josh groaned at the memory and told himself that he'd change his wallpaper later. josh's sour mood instantly lifted when he realized what day it was.

the day before tyler's birthday. josh smiled as excitement flooded his veins. he had plans to go shopping for presents with the gang. of course josh was nervous that tyler would catch on to josh leaving with his friends without him so he thought ahead. he found ryan's instagram yesterday and dmed him to keep tyler company so he wouldn't be suspicious and perfectly distracted.

josh jumped as his phone alarm just had to go off. maybe it was a good thing or else josh would have been pondering over dallon's question to ryan. the gang would all meet ryan in person for the first time after school today and they'd have to act surprised so tyler wouldn't know that this is planned.

josh chose the first option making his way down the hall to tyler's room. the door was opened and when josh peered his head in he was met with tyler applying lip gloss.

"what flavor is it today?", josh asked with a smile.

"jesus joshie you scared me! but it's green apple.", tyler said smacking his lips together and putting the tube in his backpack to reapply many times later throughout the day.

"cool your lips can smell like my outfit.", josh laughed. he watched tyler's eyes look him up and down which resulted in his face suddenly getting hot.

"your clothing is similar to mine! we're both wearing hoodies.", tyler motioned to his thank u, next hoodie that was too big on him. it was paired with black mom jeans and pink converse.

"you're adorable but come on we don't wanna be late.", josh said walking out the door, tyler following close behind.

"why would we be late joshie we have plenty of time.", tyler mumbled pulling the straps on his strawberry backpack.

"we're stopping at mcdonald's for breakfast.", josh smiled. tyler's smile was prettier though and as they made their way into the kitchen, josh greeted his moms while tyler ran straight to his lunch box to see what laura prepared today. he was content with it as always.

"i love the both of you.", tyler gushed giving kelly and laura hugs. kelly was drinking coffee while laura settled for tea.

"we love you too baby.", kelly smiled.

"you too josh i guess.", laura chuckled jokingly. josh playfully glared before pulling tyler out the door. once in the car before tyler could connect to josh's bluetooth (tyler was certain they would not be picking up debby) josh's phone rang.

josh tilted his phone away from tyler just in case it could have been ryan calling. tyler pouted at that which tugged at josh's heart but he couldn't have their cover blown. josh saw dallon's contact photo pop up on his screen.

"what?", josh asked as he started the car.

"dallon just insisted i pick him up. i don't know why.", josh shrugged.

"we're still getting mcdonald's right?", tyler asked putting on an extra coat of lip gloss even though he didn't need it but josh wasn't complaining. tyler's lips looked super kissable. josh sighed in his head at his own thoughts. josh just decided it was one of those uncontrollable weird thoughts that people have sometimes and it means nothing.

josh knows he doesn't like tyler and even if he did he knows that it wouldn't go anywhere. josh was in a relationship with debby and even if he kinda didn't want to be anymore that doesn't mean he'd suddenly be lusting over tyler. josh just had uncontrollable and weird thoughts sometimes but it all meant nothing.

"yes we're still getting mcdonald's just dallon will be tagging along.", josh said turning into dallon's street. when he pulled up to his house he saw dallon leaning against the brick wall of his home before he speedily walked to the car climbing in the backseat.

"hi tyler.", dallon smiled

"hello dally.", tyler turned around to give dallon one of his signature heartwarming smiles that could probably cure anything ever.

josh tried not to get angry at the fact that dallon completely ignored him and went straight for tyler. like josh didn't have to pick dallon up and possibly make them late for school (they wouldn't be late if josh didn't insist on mcdonald's).

"so you're just gonna not say hi to me?", josh looked at dallon through the mirror.

"we talked on the phone 5 minutes ago. don't be jealous there's enough dallon to go around.", the tall boy winked. tyler started to giggle cutely which made both boys hearts fill with some type of weird emotion.

josh pulled into the mcdonald's drive thru asking what tyler wanted. after they both ordered tyler realized that dallon didn't get anything.

"aww it's okay we can share my breakfast taco when we get to school.", tyler said.

"should we split up? meet back here when we've gotten all we need?", josh asked.

everyone nodded with mumbles of agreements. dallon and josh both made their way inside best buy. "i thought we were splitting up.", josh said with a roll of his eyes.

"one of the gifts i'm getting for tyler is in this store. we were talking earlier and he told me something that he's always wanted but never got around to actually buying.", dallon said in an
equally annoyed voice. he didn't understand why his best friend was being so moody towards him but he shook it off and went down an aisle that josh wasn't traveling down.

josh just continued his way to the vinyls. once there he looked through the l's until he found a lana del rey record. it was called lust for life. josh smiled and grabbed it not even checking the price.

he'd buy anything for tyler.

ryan spent 20 minutes catching up with kelly, 5 minutes meeting laura, and they all ate pizza together.

tyler laid his head in his besties lap. "i miss you so much all the time. i wish you could go to the school i go to now.", tyler mumbled sadly.

"hey don't be sad. we're going to hang out non stop. tell me about your friends.", ryan said playing with tyler's hair.

"well as you know joshie is my brother. he's really popular and he introduced me to his nice friends so they're my

tyler gasped turning his head to look at ryan. "brendon? i think he likes you! he was stuttering and his face was basically a tomato."

"i definitely noticed that. maybe i won't be single anymore.", ryan said.

"anyone would be lucky to have you. i think brendon would treat you right. he's goofy but sweet.", tyler said trying not to whimper as ryan tugged gently at his hair. he was getting tired.

"anyway there's ashley too. she likes girls because she told me they're pretty and boys are icky. i love her she's so pretty and nice. and jenna too. jenna is friends with josh's evil girlfriend but jenna isn't mean at all. she wants to bake cookies and brownies for my birthday tomorrow.", tyler gushed.

"they sound lovely. what about the tall boy that was lowkey making you blush? i saw that.", ryan smirked.

tyler blushed a pretty shade of scarlet. "dally? he's handsome isn't he?", tyler said playing with his own fingers.

"you like him?", ryan asked.

tyler shrugged. "he's really nice to me and he makes me laugh. i kinda have a crush on someone else but trust me it'll go no where so don't ask me who they are.", tyler pouted.

"how do you know that you don't have a chance?", ryan asked running his hands lazily through his friends tufts of curls.

"mm because i just know", tyler yawned. "school was long and i'm tired. can we nap?", tyler asked.

"of course. i might be gone when you wake up but don't worry because i'll be here tomorrow for your party.", ryan kissed tyler's cheek.

tyler nodded and closed his eyes. he was so excited for his birthday party. all of his friends would be there and his moms promised to stay in their rooms most of the time so they wouldn't embarrass him.
