A Watery Shimmer of Starlight

Maybe going somewhere with water is not a good idea. Swimming isn't critical to COPD, it's exercise. Unless she drowns, that is.

Chapter 8

A Watery Shimmer of Starlight

Maria walked with Haruhi, talking to her. "So, I think I understand your condition more. So you can't eat as much sugar as Huni-senpai, or even 1/4 of a fraction. You need to right amount of exercise, and you can't expose your lungs to smoke or chemical fumes. And too much heart rate acceleration or stress will be critical. And you must take your meds-" Haruhi was cut off when a set of twins grabbed her. Maria tilted her head.

"Target-" Hikaru started, "Captured." Kaoru finished. Hikaru then turned towards Maria. "Kyoya told us not to grab you forcefully, or do anything forceful. But you need to get in the limo too." Hikaru informed.

Suddenly a limo pulled up. A window pulled down, and Tamaki was in view. He had a straw hat and wore a Hawaiian themed shirt with flowers on them. It complemented his pink flower necklace. Tamaki lowered his sun glasses. "Put them in the car." Tamaki demanded.

Haruhi was thrown in and Maria went in after her. The twins toppled behind the two girls. "Where are we going, Tamaki?" Maria asked, being put in between Tamaki and Kyoya.

"We'll show you when we get there." Kyoya said, fixing his glasses. "It'll be quite a.. splash."

Everyone sweat dropped at Kyoya's unenthusiastic pun.

"A water park?" Haruhi asked.

"Hai, it's owned by the Ootori state. We're here to test it out." Kyoya stated, sitting on a chair far away from the water and secured under an umbrella. Maria went to go sit down on the seat next to Kyoya's, which was separated by a small stand up table, but she was picked up gently by Kaoru. She was in a bridal style position.

"Come on Maria, let's go get a swim suit." Kaoru said, walking over to the dressing area.

"Okay." Maria replied, wrapping her arms around Kaoru's neck. Kaoru blushed.

Tamaki was being held back by Takashi where Kyoya was. "STAY AWAY FROM MARIA!" Tamaki cursed.

Maria was set down in front of the changing rooms. Haruhi was next to her. "Our mother made these swim suits. We hope they suit you well." Haruhi was pushed forcefully into the room, Maria following her.

Tamaki scurried over to where he last saw the two girls, which was in front of the changing room. He waited, lightly tapping his feet.

Maria and Haruhi was in a dark room, being harassed by two twin maids. Haruhi walked out with a pink one piece and a pink water cap. Maria walked out with a bikini. She wore shorts, since the twin maids and Kyoya knew she wasn't going to swim. Kyoya couldn't risk her drowning or somehow activating her COPD.

(Choose to your liking/ what you think fits Maria)

Maria walked out after Haruhi. Tamaki stared at the two, blushing. He looked away, and handed Haruhi some clothing.

While he was doing that, Hikaru and Kaoru wrapped their arms around Maria. "Wow Maria, who knew you had big cu-" Hikaru was cut off when Tamaki 'Tama-kicked' him, causing Hikaru to fly over and land in the pool. A big splash occurred, and Kaoru immediately scurried over to his brother, diving into the pool. Maria raised an eyebrow. She walked past Tamaki who was still recovering from his.. moment.

"Hello, Kyoya." Maria greeted, sitting down next to Kyoya on the seat she was aiming for. Kyoya looked over, and immediately noticed her breast size. He quickly looked away in embarrassment and handed over a top. Maria put in on without question. Her bikini top still showed, but Kyoya didn't mind as much. Suddenly Kyoya realized something. His attention was to Maria's breasts, that he then recalled that he saw at the corner of his eye a faint red coming up her arm to the middle of her back. Kyoya then decided it was from the house fire he read about when Maria first arrived into his and the rest of the Club's life. This changed his perspective on the adorable singing girl. But Kyoya also knows it's wrong to pity her

Maria took out her laptop, which was in her bag, and realized she had mail. But before she could open the tab, Hikaru took her laptop and Kaoru was in her lap, rubbing his cheek on her own. Maria was confused, but went with it.

"Maria, let's get married." Hikaru stated, wrapping his arms around her neck. "We can go on our honeymoon up where we can be alone." They both smirked.

Tamaki was instantly in the corner, pumping up a water gun.

"Ano.. Hikaru, Kaoru, don't you want to marry each other?" Maria asked all innocent, tilting her head. Kyoya snorted.

"But we want to be with you!" They whined. Suddenly they were running from Tamaki, who was ready to hit them with everything he's got. That's when Tamaki's face collided with a totem pole. It's eyes glowed red. Maria turned around to see Huni, who was in the current pool, being trapped by the raging water. Takashi, who Maria assumed was his close over protective friend, began running. But Maria got up and was instantly diving in the pool. Did she run faster than Takashi?

All her knowledge on her COPD was forgotten. This would damage her lungs, if she swallowed too much water. Maybe worsen it? Her inhaler was back in her bag. At this fact, Haruhi was panicking.

"MARIA!" Haruhi and Tamaki shouted at the same time, running over to the now empty pool. Kyoya was panicking too. His family would get sued if the Saki's precious daughter died in his hands.

"HUNI!" The twins shouted, panicking. Was this their fault? No, they denied it.

Takashi was sulking on the floor, feeling like he failed. In a way, he did. Sadly.

Meanwhile, Maria's warm embrace was enveloping Huni as the small boy woke up. She was unconscious. Huni slowly rolled out of her limp arms and turned towards her. He noticed a faint red burn starting from her arm, then running up to her shoulder. The burn then took up her whole middle back, then stopped at the center. Maria's eyes slowly opened.

"Maria!" Huni welcomed happily.

Maria's eyes widened and she felt like puking. She rolled on her side, her back facing Huni. She then rolled to her stomach and arched her back upwards, then propped up her body with her right elbow. She puked up water. She coughed, trying to restrain her breathing.

Remember what her doctor told her; breathe in, breathe out. Think only of your breaths. In, out, in, out. No, stop looking at the people. Stop Maria, focus on yourself for once. In, out.

Maria finally controlled herself. She got up and groaned. "Huni, are you okay?" Maria asked, slightly coughing.

Huni looked at Maria in worry. "Are you okay, Maria?" Huni helped Maria to her feet.

"I'm better than I expected, don't worry." Maria wobbled towards the current they washed up in. "Let's follow the current. We'll find the Host Club eventually." Maria smiled.

Huni slightly frowned, but went with it. Suddenly Maria felt a drop of water hit her nose. She blinked, then dabbed the droplet with the tip of her finger. She brought her finger to her vision, and examined the dew on her finger tip. "Rain." Maria murmured.

"What?" Huni asked, who was now up a tree grabbing a banana.

"Huni, please get out of the tree before you get hurt." Maria held out her arms and Huni fell in them. "It's going to rain. Let's take cover." Maria held Huni on her shoulders as they traveled down stream.

"Maria?" Huni asked.

Maria hummed in response.

"Will the others find us?" Huni asked, playing with her delicate brown hair.

"If they don't, we'll find them." Maria put Huni down and sat next to him. The rain began to pour heavily, washing away whatever stains tainted them. Maria guessed the cover wasn't as good as she thought, but it'll do. Maria was worried she'll get sick being out here in the cold. She slightly shivered.

"Maria? Are you cold?" Huni asked worriedly.

Maria only shook her head and leaned her head on the tree bark. "N-No Huni, I'm fine. Are you cold?" Maria's eyes shined with guilt. Huni giggled.

"Maria needs to worry about herself, instead of others so much. I'm fine, but are you?" Huni tilted his head.

Maria sighed and sniffled. She was getting a runny nose. Is she getting sick? Please no. Mother, please don't let me get sick.

Huni nodded and climbed the tree. "Be careful!" Maria was fearing the worst. He could fall or slip due to the rain and-

"Don't worry, Maria! I'll be okay!" Huni gave Maria a thumbs up. "I'm a big boy!" Maria giggled at Huni's words.

Huni was down in no time, and a big banana leaf was over Maria, just like a blanket. She was surprisingly warm. "Thank you, Huni." Maria smiled.

To Huni, Maria was a bright star. Maybe like the sun. She shined perfectly and she was always brightening up wherever she was. Maybe he can shine just like her, some day.

Maria smiled. Huni is so bright. Always being happy, and is just a positive person. He's such a bright star. Will she shine as brightly as him? Maria settled, and looked down. She began to feel drowsy. All these emotions are tiring.

Huni looked over to see Maria sleeping. She breathed lightly, her hair shifting out from behind her ear. Huni smiled. She looked comfortable, and peaceful. Could he be so carefree as her? Huni got up and made sure the banana leaf was secured.

The rain began to clear, and Huni set off to find the others. It would be uncomfortable for both Maria and him if he carried her. As he walked, Huni heard a shout echo throughout the area.

"Set the boy down!" Huni looked in that direction and ran towards it. Were the others in danger? He hoped not. Huni abruptly stopped when he saw a canyon, or a cliff. The sound came from the other side. He noticed a vine hanging loose from a tree. Huni ripped the vine out of the mud and made sure it was steady. After pulling on it, he took the vine in one hand and backed up. He then ran and jumped. The vine swung, and soon the vine ran out. Huni was halfway, so he jumped. He luckily grabbed another one, then landed in the middle of a clearing. There stood Takashi and Haruhi, surrounded by soldiers.

Huni kicked all their butts after they criticized him. The others soon came running in the area. "Huni!" Tamaki ran over. "Wheres Maria?" Tamaki asked, noticing she wasn't there standing with her usual smile.

"She passed out." Huni stated. Tamaki gave Huni a concerned look.

"Is she hurt? Is she sick? Is she okay?" Tamaki questioned.

"No, no, and yes!" Huni grabbed Tamaki's hand and pulled Tamaki to where Maria laid unconscious. Huni luckily found a shortcut past the cliff, and Tamaki saw Maria sleeping up against a tree. She had a banana leaf on her like a blanket. Tamaki sighed in relief and ran up to her. He picked her up softly, staring at her. Her hair moved gently. She was cold, but warm enough.

Tamaki and Huni got back to the Host Club, and they walked back to the pool area.

"Haruhi! Did you enjoy yourself?" The twins asked.

"I'm not really one for water parks. I like the beach better. It's better scenery." Haruhi answered.

"Then it's settled! We're going to the beach!" Tamaki agreed, holding Maria on his back. He gripped her pale skin. Maria's arms wrapped around his neck. Her head leaned on his shoulder.

"Do you think Maria will come?" Huni asked excitedly.

"Depends, if she's willing." Kyoya responded, glancing at the pair.
