A Star's Sky
Maria thought it was lucky she didn't catch a cold. But for precaution, she skipped school today.
Chapter 9
A Star's Sky
Tamaki sat in the corner of the Host Club room, blue collapsing around him. He was in a ball, murmuring forbidden phrases Maria would scold him on. She would say it isn't nice to say such things about people. These words were directed towards 'mommy', who sat in on a couch typing away. He obviously didn't care.
Haruhi was stressing about how Maria wasn't picking up the phone. Haruhi was worried ever since she was found passed out by Tamaki, who had to carry her back to the limo. Tamaki said she was still wet, and she was fully numb. But Haruhi caught Tamaki murmuring 'but so warm' after that phrase.
But anyways, Kyoya wouldn't let Tamaki and the Host Club visit Maria's house, since it would bother her and her family. But Kyoya knew that Maria was actually fine, and he actually got a call from her this morning. She sounded perfectly okay, but for precaution, she had to stay home to recover. Kyoya understood, knowing how COPD works and the conditions it has with it. The Host Club would only bother Maria and maybe cause her too much worry to entertain them, knowing her. Stress is bad for COPD, so Maria deserves such a break. Especially after an eventful day like yesterday. Luckily Huni was there to take care of her. But he's getting suspicious of Maria's health.
Tamaki suddenly popped in front of Kyoya, slamming his laptop shut. This shocked Kyoya and made him slightly jump. Tamaki had his puppy face. That annoying face that you couldn't resist because he'll keep doing it until he gets what he wants. Kyoya sighed in annoyance and pushed up his glasses. "Tamaki, I told you. We can't go visit Maria." Kyoya stated coldly, looking at Tamaki who stood his ground.
"Arf!" Tamaki barked.
"Come on Kyoya, don't be such a kill-joy. We visited Haruhi's house and it turned out to be fun! What about Maria? We just want to check up on her is all." Hikaru reasoned.
"You don't understand. You see, Maria is recovering from yesterday's events and she needs rest." Kyoya tried to talk but Huni butted in.
"Is Maria sick?" Huni asked. Takashi grunted, signaling he also wanted to know.
"Maria is fine, she just nee-"
"Kyo-chan, I didn't mean it like that. And you know that." Huni frowned.
Tamaki tilted his head, his face now concerned. The twins looked interested.
Kyoya sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Look, I'm not supposed to tell you this. It's supposed to be by Maria's words, not my own. She should be the one explaining things. I'm pretty sure she'll just answer if you ask. She's just like that."
Everyone frowned but Haruhi and Kyoya. Both hosts shared a look. They both knew and both completely understood that they should keep the rest out of Maria's property. For their own good and for Maria.
"Why don't we go out for ice cream instead?" Haruhi asked. Tamaki instantly perked up.
"Ice cream with the family?! Father daughter bonding!" Tamaki rejoiced. He then paused. "But I don't have Maria with me.." Tamaki whispered sadly.
The twins shared a look. They kinda had the idea their boss liked the bright girl, but not this much. It's like they were a broken vase, they need each other to complete the form of art. The twins only felt this for each other, even if it was an act. They needed each other. But they were in a different metaphor. Each was a rose petal, and something else was the yellow nectar the petals clung to.
Kyoya got up and set his laptop on the coffee table. "Alright, let's go out for ice cream." Kyoya pushed up his glasses.
"Yay!" Tamaki and Huni cheered.
Haruhi found herself 'guiding' the hosts to the ice cream flavors. Had they never went inside a Nella's? Kyoya find out it was actually branded frozen yogurt, but he never told the rest. Kyoya sat down with his chocolate mint ice cream, marking his spot at the end of the table. Haruhi came and sat down next to Kyoya, with her strawberry ice cream with chocolate syrup drizzled on the top. Haruhi glanced at Kyoya. "You eat more commoner food than I thought." Haruhi stated, taking a bite of her cold delight.
"I'm just in the mood for 'ice cream', and I'll take what I'd get." Kyoya denied. He then slightly leaned over to Haruhi. "Just to make them happy. They need to forget about the whole 'going to Maria's house' idea. I assume you know about Maria's condition?" Kyoya whispered softly.
"Hai, I'm aware." Haruhi whispered back. "She told me." Haruhi added.
Kyoya nodded and was about to say something, when Tamaki suddenly sat in between the two. He must of pulled up a chair. "Mommy! Are you trying to steal my daughter away from me?!" Tamaki whined. He chose chocolate custard, which was not surprising. Tamaki looked down at his ice cream and sighed. "I wonder what's Maria's favorite flavor?" Tamaki whispered. Haruhi and Kyoya shared a look. Tamaki was pointless without Maria.
Takashi sat down next to Huni, who sat across from the three. Takashi got black raspberry crunch, with chocolate syrup on the ends. Huni got Strawberry with strawberry syrup on it. The twins sat down across each other, Hikaru next to Haruhi and Kaoru next to Takashi. They got peach flavored ice cream.
Tamaki started the conversation. "I wonder how Maria's doing..." He sighed, as if the answer would be as clear as glass.
"What if she's in danger?" The twins smirked.
Tamaki began to panic. "Kyoya! Is she?! Is she?!" Tamaki began to shake Kyoya's shoulders.
"No, She's fine." Kyoya felt uncomfortable.
Haruhi gripped her cup tightly due to Kyoya's lie. She wished this was true.
"You sure?" Tamaki's eyes shimmered.
Kyoya remained silent. Tamaki flinched at that fact. He lowered his head. "She's not okay, is she?" Tamaki's voice cracked.
"Kyoya..?" Huni asked.
"Kyoya, maybe we should tell them." Haruhi murmured.
Tamaki turned to Haruhi with a hurt expression. "You know about this...?" Tamaki's voice wavered. Was Tamaki betrayed?
The twins chewed on their ice cream and watched the scene unfold. They were worried, in all honesty.
"Why are you hiding the facts?" Tamaki asked.
Kyoya and Haruhi were silent. Haruhi was about to speak, when Kyoya kicked her leg to not go there. "Haruhi, let Maria explain things. She'd be better at it, anyways." Kyoya's lips cracked to a small smile. "After all, she's perfect with words." Kyoya's smile faltered as he noticed it was there. He blushed in embarrassment and looked away.
"You want to go to Maria's house? So be it. She's probably waiting." Kyoya and Haruhi nodded.
The Host's eyes brightened. They cheered. Tamaki immediately stood up. "Will ice cream cheer Maria up?" Huni asked.
"Most likely. But she shouldn't eat too much sweets. If it's a small cup, then she can eat it." Haruhi informed, remembering her research. Haruhi must care a lot for Maria. Haruhi mentally nodded in agreement at her own thoughts.
"What kind of ice cream does Maria like?" Tamaki asked, looking through the flavors. Tamaki still doesn't know much about Maria. The fact that he doesn't saddens him.
"Well, I learned that she likes French custard." Huni smiled. "Me and Maria were talking, and I asked what her favorite flavor of sweet was. She said she likes French custard." Huni recalled, smiling. "Luckily, we had French mustard tarts, which she said she coincidentally love them. She said it was her favorite use of french custard in sweets. I asked her why she loved them, and she said it brought many happy memories." Huni glowed. The smile Maria had with that phrase was beautiful. It shined as bright as a star, Huni remembered.
"Well, there's French vanilla, which has silky french custard in it." Kyoya described, writing Huni's information down in his notebook.
"Perfect!" Tamaki said, running over to the said flavor.
Hikaru and Kaoru gave each other a look. Maybe Maria is like them, who suffers because of people's harsh conclusions.
Kyoya told the limo driver where to go, which was Maria's home. The Host's were surprised to see such a home the small petite girl lived in. Haruhi wasn't surprised. But Maria only lived here with her father and the staff, at least to Haruhi's knowledge.
"Woah!" The twins awed. They looked at each other and smirked delightfully. "A castle, you know what that means?" Hikaru spoke deviously. "Secret chambers and hidden door cases that shield hidden pathways!" Kaoru giggled.
Tamaki began to yell at them, saying that they shouldn't even be here. But he couldn't help that in the back of his mind, he was thinking how he too fancied French custard.
"Okay, everyone, before we get out, we must discuss things." Kyoya said, but no one listened. They got up, but before Hikaru touched the door, Kyoya raised his voice. "SIT DOWN."
Everyone sat down. Kyoya raising his voice was abnormal. He was usually 'calm and collected'. It was scary that he could do such a dark lord voice. "Before we enter and interrupt the daily routines of the Saki family, please be aware of these rules. If you break one of these rules then me and Haruhi won't hesitate to kill you all." Kyoya informed. Haruhi nodded.
"Okay, rule number one. Don't stress out Maria in any way. Which means so hassling her to get snacks or to entertain your rich asses." Haruhi looked like a strict mother. But she was heard loud and clear.
"Rule number 2, don't disrupt any staff or family of the Saki's. Saki's father is strict when it comes to men, especially when his precious daughter is involved. He will not hesitate to be the cause of all of your down falls. The staff will be incredibly busy. This is a busy family, and the staff are either running business errands or making phone calls. They also partake in paying the bills, but not with their own money. It will be especially busy since Maria is... sick." Kyoya 'ermed'.
"Rule 3. Don't be nosy and shove your dirty little hands where they don't want you to be touching. Stay in a group unless Maria or the staff gave you permission to look around in a certain area." Haruhi crossed her arms.
"And finally, rule numbers 4 and 5. Don't throw Maria's sleeping schedule off, if she's sleeping. Also, don't distract her if she's checking the time." The Hosts were confused. Was time very important to the Saki family?
"And rule 5, have fun. Maria is probably down that she missed school today, so we should cheer her up! Tamaki, you still have the ice cream?" Haruhi added, smiling. Tamaki showed the cup of unexpectedly still cold and good conditioned ice cream.
The Hosts smiled and got out.
