Chapter 7
Gussie was in a bar alone drinking his sadness away while other people were having a good time by dancing to the loud music, chatting with their friends with the shot glass in their hands, flirting and making out with what could result to a one night stand. He was watching people go about their lives until he heard a familiar voice that he flinched and saw a guy he knew sitting at the bar too to order drinks, Gussie stood up and approached him. "Evan?"
"Gussie? hey!" the guy looked over to his side and saw him coming over.
"Hi! how you doing?"
"I'm good, you?" Evan answered yet he was plastering a smile because he was not thrilled in seeing him.
"Yeah... same. You alone? because maybe we can have a drink together to pass the time...?"
"No need, I... uhm," sadly he declined that it bummed Gussie.
"There you are, come on, the girls are here and..." another guy came to Evan. "Gussie? sorry, I didn't see you there, long time no see."
"Mm hmm," Gussie was very much dismayed yet he put on a brave face, he glanced to the table with the other people he knew and he wasn't able to be a part of it. Those posse was not happy to see him and looked at him with disgust.
"We need to go, we'd invite you to join but some of them is..."
"I get it, go."
"Nice seeing you again, Gussie."
The guys left him and be with their pals. Gussie watched them having fun without him, he was cast aside after Lexi's death.
Perfida was sleeping peacefully but then a white mists scattered in the room then whispering voices that was getting louder by the minute that was starting to wake up. She opened her eyes, her vision was blurry and it wasn't because she just woke up, it was because her eyesights weren't good yet she could see a white fuzzy figure as she looked up, it slowly focuses that it was actually someone in a white cloak.
Eyes widened in shock, it reached its hand out to her face that she let out a blood-curdling scream that she woke up the next morning that the sun was up and the nightmare was not the only thing stirred her. "Vance?!" she exclaimed, apparently he was sleeping next to her in the sofa and got awoken from her shriek. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Sorry," Vance yawned then sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Your grandfather let me sleep her because I was locked out from the room last night, I tried to call March and Leyo but I guess they were too tired to answer their phone."
"Oh! so why did you get out of the room last night?"
"Topher called," after that, Vance lied back down again. "That was one startle you had to wake you up like that, did you have a bad dream?"
"Yeah, I think."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No, I'm good."
"Hmm, okay, I'll just go back to sleep, I was stuck outside for almost two hours."
Perfida was taken aback by that. "Sure," she told him then lied back down to her side facing the other way, she was about to rest again but she heard her phone vibrated.
Once Perfida checked it, there was message from March, have you seen Vance?
Perfida typed, yes, he's here with us.
All of a sudden, she could feel Vance rotating and then embraced her with his arms and legs like he was cuddling her from behind, Perfida didn't mind since he was not aware that he was doing it but his weight was resting on her. "Oh my crapolai, he's heavy but something does smells fishy and it's not his pits... ugh."
"Boy would I give anything to be in her position right now," Perdita sighed, she was a bit jealous but at the same time it wasn't the same as how it felt with March.
Later, they were by the patio since there was no plans to go continue exploring the place for that day because Ram had a meeting. "You think I locked him out the room just because he called his boyfriend in the middle of the night?" March exclaimed after being confronted by Perfida and Leyo who were giving him this look of doubt with their arms crossed while Vance was still getting ready in their room.
"Did you?" Perfida interrogated.
"NO! I swear, I was asleep, I had no idea that he got out. Once I woke up this morning, that's when I found out that he's not there."
"Okay, just making sure," Perfida replied. "Because incoming."
Vance came with his hair all damped, he sat with them with a smile on his face. "What a lovely day, don't you think?"
"You seem cheery?" Leyo pointed out.
"Is it your boyfriend?" Perfida teased, she looked at March's way and he was scowling at her for supporting Vance's relationship but at the same time, he knew that it just her being a good friend.
"That but no, even though I only got five hours of sleep, I feel well rested," Vance expressed.
"You weren't sleeping on the floor for once."
"I guess that's it, thanks again for letting sleep with you guys. Just one more day and we'll be having our own bed. Yay!"
"Yay," March was glad that they each get their single beds but then he bent down to Perfida's level to whisper in her ear. "At least you get to sleep beside him". Perfida chuckled quietly and shook her head at him.
"BREAKING NEWS," they heard some was watching the local news in their tablet, they ignored it at first but then there was something about it that they decided to listen. "The teen boy that went missing few days ago, still haven't found."
"Oh wow, did you see that?" Vance agaped.
"Yeah it's awful, probably it's the Wagans that took him," Perfida thought
"Or the insurgencies?" Leyo said.
Perdita then remembered something. "I heard some people say that there was this one girl went missing in the forbidden forest because her boyfriend lost her there," she told her twin.
"Get out!" Perfida stunned in disbelief.
"She's talking to her sister again," March exasperated since her responding at different conversation.
"Purdy heard from other people that there's this guy who lost his girlfriend in the forbidden because he left her there."
"No!" the boys reacted the same way.
Gussie was back from his night out and saw those people were there, he was planning on avoiding them after their conflict if Perdita hadn't told her sister about what she heard from that restaurant while he was there within earshot. "What idiot would leave his girlfriend to the forbidden forest where people get lost?"
"If you're gonna talk about me..." Gussie confronted them, they flinched and turned their heads to him looking confused as why he was confronting them. "At least make sure I'm not here."
"Huh? We weren't talking about you," Perfida looked at him in a weird way.
"I just heard you."
"Why would we be talking about you?" until it hit her and her ghost twin. "Oh! it was you."
"Oops," Perdita began feeling guilty that it was bad timing for her to mention it to her sister.
"Why don't you all mind your own business?" Gussie snapped.
"Listen. We don't know, okay?" Vance interjected.
"Yeah, right."
"Okay, I'm sorry," Perfida decided to apologize since the situation was getting heated. "We'll back off."
"All of you, stop it before my husband sees you kids are at it again," Torrey walked in with Archie, Bryce and Harrison. Lexi was watching them from the distance.
"Seriously, what is the problem now?" Archie asked.
"They were wiggling their tongues and it's about me," Gussie answered his mom feeling so irate.
"Wiggling their tongues? who says that?" March whispered, he was weirded out by that figure of speech.
"Him apparently," Vance whispered back.
"Is that true?" Torrey shifted to the soulpadres.
"We... I mean I was talking... about a rumor that we heard from people that a guy lost his girlfriend in the forbidden forest but we didn't know that it was... him, honest," Perfida explained.
"I don't need this," Gussie walked away in a huff.
"I'll go talk to him. Please, not a word to Ram," Torrey pleaded.
"Of course," Archie replied as the kids apologized to her yet again.
"Few days here and they think they know everything about me," Gussie groaned.
Torrey chased her son by the hallway. "Gussie, they didn't know," she told him. "And you gave off a... bad first impression, what do you expect?"
"Why can't they just butt off?"
"Honey, they're good people, they're not going to talk about if they knew it was about you."
"Oh yeah, that makes me feel a lot better, thanks, mom."
"Okay, what is this about?" his noticed something else from her son. "You seem a lot more agitated today than usual."
"It's... nothing."
"Tell me, honey, what's the problem?"
"It's just that, everywhere I go, in here and out there, people view me as this worst person ever," he ranted while Torrey was hurt that his son had to go through all that. "I get it! I get it! I mess up and it costs Lexi's life, I just wish people would think that it hasn't been easier for me too, I never wanted her gone, she was my girlfriend, I loved her."
"I know, I know, sweetie," Torrey held Gussie crying face then gently place it in her shoulder and stroke his hair, she too was began getting teary-eyed. "I'm so sorry."
"Mom, it's been two years of this, I don't know how to show my face to everyone if this still continues. I tried to move on, I want to move forward but I can't do that because everyone kept reminding me about it."
"Everything will be okay."
"Most times, it's so hard to go about my life without people breathing down neck from all this," he wimpered
Back in the patio. "Sorry, Peachy, it's my fault that you guys got in trouble," Perdita apologized.
"It's okay, Purdy, I should learn to becareful in future," Perfida said.
Archie recalled why Mauro was acting so peculiar when they met the previous day with the French couple and asked himself if this was what he was referring to. "You're right, I... suggest to just keep away from Gussie for the time being," he advised.
"You don't need to tell us twice," March replied. "Wow, Gussie is actually dealing with a pretty big stuff here, he lost his girlfriend."
"Yeah, poor guy, I guess he hasn't gotten over the pain he's feeling and it's not helping that Mr. French had to berate every wrong things he does in his life," Vance added.
"Uh oh, Mr. French is coming this way," Perfida mumbled to them.
"Just act cool," Vance reminded them to not reach the incident to Ram.
"Morning," Ram greeted.
"Morning!" They all ended up greeting him back together that it was starting to get a bit awkward.
"Anyway, sorry that we're not going out today, I have lots meetings to attend to."
"No problem," they all answered in unison again.
"By the way, have any of you seen my wife? She should be in the meeting as well and it will start in less than thirty minutes."
"No," the replied altogether once more that Ram began thinking that it was weird.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"I see... I'll try to call her. Why don't you just relax in our wonderful resort, we have skirring lessons by the beach, you kids should try it out."
"Stellar," Perfida smiled in acknowledgment. "We'll check it out."
"Great, I should go now and if you see my wife, please tell her that I am waiting for her in my office."
"Will do," Archie nodded.
"Thank you, I'll see you all in the afternoon then."
"Okay," they accidentally said together once again that Ram just smiled and nodded then head back to his office.
