Chapter 6
They went to a garden restaurants for lunch in a chateau-like structure that has a view of an exotic vineyard that had blue-colored small trees with gold berries, like in the temple and an ocean next to it. They were dining outdoors under the clear blue skies. Archie drank a glass of translucent green water and admired the taste "Mmm... this is good," he commented.
"Glad you like it, this is where I get my best wine for my resort," Ram said as he sipped his drink.
"Are they selling a bottle, I could sure bring some home?"
"Absolutely, come, the people here knows me."
"Oh no, I should accompany you gentlemen to make sure you two don't drink too much samples," Torrey said, she stood with the two men then walked to the chateau.
"You two met the spirit guardians?" Vance asked Perfida and her twin.
"Yes, they were like the ones in my vision and the sketches in the temple," Perfida confirmed. "They showed Perdita around and meet the other spirit guardian and they were kinda impressed that I can see spirits and told me to watch out of the Wagans."
"So they are real," March felt creeped out.
Inside the chateau, Ram showed him a bottle of wine to Archie. "This one is my personal favorite, it has this sweetness that stuck to your mouth that takes hours wear off."
Archie gulped the drink from a small cup and pursed his lips to feel that sweetness that Ram was talking about. "Huh, it does, not bad."
"Try this one too, Archie," Torrey poured a bottle of another wine in a small cup and gave it to him.
Archie quickly guzzled it. "Oh wow wow, this is fruity yet... very sour," he wheezed his voice from the flavor that made this funny face, his one eye twitched and his mouth puckered tightly, the couple contain their laugh from the look that Archie had.
"What do you think?"
"It makes my face tight."
"I know, that's why I made you drink it," she giggled that she tricked Archie with that. "I assume you're not going to buy this?"
Archie snatched the bottle from her."Oh, I'll buy it, I'll make my grandchildren drink this when they're in their legal age and see the reaction," he chuckled.
"Archibald Sweeney, is that you?" they heard a person calling Archie. The three of them saw a Latino man, wearing a fine suit with auburn brown with slight greys at the side and blue eyes, entering the wine shop, same age as them the French couple weren't happy to see them.
"Mauro Cruz?" Archie hugged the man. "You live in Thoto too?
"Si, my old friend, I got my own trading business here five years ago with my unica hija."
Archie shifted to the nervous couple. "Why did you forget to mention that he's here too?" he questioned them in a thrilled tone, Mauro gave them this smirk and one brow raised at the couple while Archie wasn't looking.
"I... because..." Ram stuttered, he was stumped that the man was there with them and he was starting to sweat. "I haven't seen him in a while."
"I wonder why?" Mauro sarcastically said as he darted to the couple. "But I have been very busy lately, business is booming, amigo."
"How are you, Mauro?"
"I am doing better, I'm on a date actually," Mauro pointed at the gorgeous lady with black soft curly hair with a glamorous makeup wearnig a mini floral red dress sitting alone and she was young. "I'm gonna need a good wine to play my cards right."
"Very nice, curves in the right place too," Archie was impressed at how attractive the woman was to date a man that was almost at his prime.
"Her name is Mela and she's twenty years my junior. Anyway, what brings you here?"
"They invited me to stay in their resort with my grandchildren."
"What? you have grandchildren?" he exclaimed.
"Yes, I am a proud grandfather to seventeen-year-old twin girls and an eight-year-old grandson."
"You are old, amigo, Haha! I'm just kidding with you. I am happy for you, wish I could have those."
"Someday, I'm sure from your daughter, Alexandra."
"Really? how?" Mauro glared at the French couple, they haven't said anything in the conversation since he came, Archie was confused as to what he meant by that. "Where is your nino bonito, Ram?"
"He's not here," Torrey answered instead while her husband just kept quiet.
"I see, well, I won't keep my date waiting, I am very happy to see you... all again, especially you, Archie," he hugged him once more then started whispering to his ears. "Don't let their son go near your granddaughters and don't let the Wagans get you, okay, amigo?"
Archie got perplexed and worried from his advice as Mauro leaves to look for a good wine. "What was that?"
"Don't mind him, let's just get the bottles and go back to our table, I'm sure our food have arrived," Torrey pulled his arm to the cashier.
Later in the evening in the resort, Gussie was all dressed with his car keys in his hand. "I'm going out again," he told his staff by the front desk.
"Oh, before you leave, can you sign this first?" his staff approached him.
"Sure," Gussie took the stylus and put his signature on some paperworks but then his parents and their guest returned just in time to see him.
The soulpadres entered while they were talking. "That was fun, I wonder what we'll see next tomorrow?" Perfida said, she did not see where she was going that she bumped into Gussie again before her anyone could warn her.
"Oops, didn't see you there."
"Then watch were you're going," he snapped, Perfida was stumped from his attitude but decided to let go instead of making it worse.
"What an ass?" March whispered to the other two boys who agreed that was true.
Perdita was pissed then for just two seconds, she remembered him. "That's the jerk face," she finally recalled and so did, Perfida.
"I'm sorry," Perfida apologized to Gussie then turned to her friends. "Let's just go."
"Next time, watch where you're going," Gussie snarled.
"AGUSTUS!" Ram apparently saw that last part approached his son with a death stare. "What is going on here?"
Everyone was silent seeing Ram was livid especially Gussie who was chickened out now that he was caught by his father. "It's nothing, really," Perfida answered. "I accidently walked into him."
Ram knew what he saw and darted his eyes to his son. "That's it? I saw how you talked to her," he said to Gussie. "Is this how you talk to our guests?"
"Oh! that's his son," Perfida muttered.
"This is so bad," Perdita voiced. "For him at least."
"I did not raise you to be ignorant, Gussie. Do you know who you're talking to? She is my friend's granddaughter and these three gentlemen are her friends whose room you messed up."
"That issue is over, dad," Gussie calmly argued.
"Perhaps but did you know the hussy you invited to your room ran over when she got out from your room this morning?!"
"Okay, I'm sorry."
"Oh, my God."
"Not to me, you idiot."
"Ram, Gussie," Torrey dashed to her family with worry and Archie followed with Bryce and Harrison, he could tell that there was tension already. "We can hear you two, is there a problem?"
"I am giving our son a piece of my mind because he was acting rudely towards Perfida," Ram explained. "Gussie, apologize."
"Ram. Please..."
"Mr. French, it's fine, it's just an accident."
"No," Ram respond in a fuming tone. "Gussie, I said APOLOGIZE."
"Boys, can you go by the pool and take Bryce and Harrison with you?" Archie whispered to Vance, March and Leyo since eight-year-old should not be watching grown ups having conflicts.
"Sure," March nodded, he and the two others took the little and the dog away.
"Ram, Torrey, I don't know how you handle these things but please don't drag my granddaughter into this."
Ram became bashful yet he was putting a straight face and calmed down a bit. "You're right, I'm sorry, Archie, Perfida."
"Perfida, you can go," Torrey told her, Perfida just smiled and nodded then left them along with Perdita.
"I'll just be in the office," Ram exasperated and walked away.
Archie approached Gussie who now felt so embarrassed that he had his head down. "Don't worry about it," he assured him to lighten the boy's mood. "Look at you, the last time I saw you, you were just a tiny baby with a tight grip when you grabbed my finger and now you are a handsome stud, I'm glad to see you again, Gussie."
"You too, Mr. Sweeney," Gussie stuttered with a light grin just to be polite. "Anyway, I will be heading you."
"Okay, Sweetie," Torrey replied, she had to allow her son after his father humiliated him. "Don't drink too much."
"Yes, mom."
"I'm really sorry about that, Archie," Torrey apologized. "I am so embarrassed."
"It's alright, let's forget about it," Archie respond.
"I'll just go check on Ram," she said to Archie.
"Sure."
In the pool area where the Soulpadres were chilling and talking while watching Bryce playing by the water with the other kids his age. "And I thought my dad is scary," March said after witnessing how Ram treated his son.
"Yeah, I kinda feel bad for the guy," Perfida said back. "Like sure, he's an ass but I don't want him to be put on the spot like that just for accidentally bumping into him."
"It seems like he hates his son, don't you think?" Vance noticed.
"I see it too," March nodded in agreement.
"The snide remark and every time he made a mistake, Mr. French became short with him, I mean what's that about?"
"Now that I think about, it does seem like he hates him?" Perfida said.
"But why does he hate him though?" Leyo asked.
"Maybe there's something that he did that was so bad that made Mr. French treats his son like that."
Torrey went inside her husbands office, he was not working just staring at the window to cool down from reprimanding his son. "Why do you had to do that to Gussie?" she confronted.
"You weren't there to witness it, He was being barbaric and I need to put him in his place like any father would do," Ram turned to his wife and justfied his action.
"There's no need for an audience, Ram. You not only put your son in the spot but also Perfida."
"He disrespected a female for not apologizing to her."
"Oh come of it, that is not the problem. This is about meeting Mauro again, isn't it?"
"No it's not."
"That was awkward, I get it but you don't have to take it out on Gussie, Mauro has the right to hate us until it kills him. Gussie is our son, you can't resent him for what he did to Lexi forever."
"That's not fair, I didn't ask for this."
"No one does! you better fix your relationship with your son before it's too late, sooner or later you will regret, Ramford French."
"You know, that's the worse part, that he's my son, my son that made a foolish and stupid mistake for losing Lexi to the forbidden forest."
Torrey was horrified at the words coming out from her husband's mouth. "He may not be the perfect son but you're no better of a father," she stared down at him then stormed out of his office leaving Ram affected from her response.
