Chapter 27
The insurgency stared them down with their weapons because the Soulpadres, Gussie, Koru, and Mauro were all tied to a tree. "I thought you said you guys done this before," Lexi expressed her frustrations to the twin ghosts watching her father, and boyfriend are still in danger.
"Yeah, but there are times that we failed," Perdita cringed. "Don't worry, it's gonna be okay."
"How? My Dad is here, and Gussie, and YOUR SISTER. How are you not worried?"
"I am, it's just that one of us should not be worried."
Lexi looked at Perdita, and saw how unfazed she was especially after what was happening with her twin sister.
Meanwhile, Taus began speaking to his prisoners, "nice try escaping," he mocked them. "But I know this part of the woods like it's on the back of my hands."
"Just let us go, we're not gonna tell anyone about this," Vance negotiated.
"I'm afraid it's not that easy." Taus turned to Perfida. "You may have gotten away from me last time, but not this time."
Vance, and Perfida gulped knowing that he was one of the men that chased them away from the underground city. "What's he talking about?" Gussie asked the only girl since she was tied next to him.
"Uhm... Long story," Perfida replied nervously.
"Listen. You shouldn't do this, it's not gonna change anything even if you kill us," Koru said to their captors.
"Shut up! Traitor," Taus exclaimed to his fellow Zumuyan. "Can't you see that they are taking our land?"
"You know, you have a chance to join us or die a traitor?"
Everyone had their eyes on Koru since he, and Taus were glaring at one another, "I pick the latter any day," he responded proudly.
"Koru, No!" Gussie disapproved to have his bestfriend would rather risk his life just to prove his loyalty.
"You're not gonna get away with this, whatever you're planning," Perfida warned Taus. "By the way, what exactly are you planning before killing us?" The men grunted, and shooked their heads at her.
The insurgency put out a grin in his face. "You'll see. Soon, our people we'll get our island back from trespassers, aliens, and traitors. You and your hotels, malls, universities, hospitals, forest parties. You think you guys can have it all just because you want it, and take it."
"Dude, it's not like that," Koru told them.
"I bought this land LEGALLY!" Mauro exclaimed that the kinds with him cringed that he was roaring in anger.
Taus curled his lips, and snickered towards the tycoon, "I wonder if your daughter is this hard-headed?"
The Soulpadres, Gussie, Koru and the two ghosts instantly knew what this evil man meant. "He... killed me?" Lexi aghasted.
"You..." Gussie stuttered in horror. "You killed Lexi."
"Believe it or not, that was not my intention," Taus claimed.
"You son of a bitch!" the poor father cried and wanted nothing but to beat the crap off her daughter's killer. "You killed my Lexi! You killed my little girl! How could you?!"
"Blame yourself. You keep taking our land, I did everything to make you stop so I had to come up some other way, and "I wanted to kidnap her but let's just say, I didn't realize my own strength."
"I'm gonna kill you!! you hear me? I'll kill you!!"
"Not before you're going to reunite with her." Taus shifted to his goons. "Let's go."
"Alright," said one of them.
"We'll be back, and don't even think about escaping again." Taus left with five other insurgency leaving his victims with one of his men gaurding them.
"Get back here, you coward!!" Mauro kept shouting. "Get back here!!"
"Mr. Cruz, stop that," Gussie told him since the gaurds seem to be losing patience from the Lexi's father's hysteria.
"You shut up! I don't want to hear anything coming out from your mouth."
However, the insurgency punched Mauro's stomach which made the younger kids even more frightened, "that's enough, you are getting on my nerves," he groaned.
The poor man hissed in pain, "Mr. Cruz, are you okay?" Koru checked on him since no one were able to aid him.
"Of course not, you idiot," Mauro snapped at the guy who was just showing concern her.
"Hey! don't talk to him like that!" Gussie scolded. "He's just looking out for you."
"Didn't I tell you to shut up?!"
"Why don't you all shut up?" the gaurd warned them. "I'm gonna be over there, and watch Kdramas so you better not make a sound."
"Alright, alright," Perfida exasperated.
Fifteen minutes passed, yet their situation felt like it was forever, "we have to do something," Vance whispered while the insurgency busy watching an episode from his phone. "We have to get out of here."
"You think?" March gestured to point out how obvious as to what was happening to them.
"Gosh... I should've listened to Papoli instead of doing this," the only girl there whimpered in regret then Mauro glanced over to her.
"Let's not dwell on that now, Perfida," Vance advised. "All we need to focus on now is how to get out of here now that the warden is distracted."
"Perfida?" Mauro lifted a brow.
"Yeah?" she looked at him.
The man looked stunned. "You're Archie's granddaughter?"
"Yup," Perfida confirmed.
"I knew it, you have your father's eyes."
"Aww... thank you. Oh! you're Lexi's father. Sorry we have to meet this way."
"It's not your fault, Dear," Mauro sighed. "It's Gussie's!"
"What the fuck?!" Gussie exclaimed in disbelief. Lexi also had the same reaction. "Sure, blame me for everything."
"Is there a reason I shouldn't, Agustus?"
"HEY! didn't I tell you to keep quiet?" the insurgency demanded from the distance but he was still within earshot. "Great, now I missed a scene."
"Weren't you there when that loonatic admitted that he was the one that ki... hurt Lexi?" the poor guy reminded while also lowering his voice.
"She wouldn't be dead if you hadn't brought her to that stupid party," Mauro argued.
The rest had no idea what to do while these two were squabbling when they were in the middle of being in danger. "We should be planning our escape right about now," Leyo whispered.
"I know, I know, but they need fight this out right now," Vance whispered back. "My mom said it's a healthy thing to do because they are pouring out the negative energy from their body or something."
"We went to that party several times before nothing like that ever happened," Gussie retorted to his dead girlfriend's father since the argument was still in progress.
"I shouldn't have let her be involved with you," Mauro remarked.
"Too bad that's not your choice to make."
"Yet, she's dead. Lexi used to tell me that you made her feel safe and protected when she's with you."
"Hey! that's not necessary," Perfida interjected. "And it's not his fault that Lexi died."
"No, it's okay, I got this," Gussie told her after she defended him then faced Mauro again. "Mr. Cruz, I know how many times I apologize, or whatever I say or do won't get Lexi back. Her death is not easy on me too, my father hates me, I lost my friends, and I stopped going to school."
The grieving man flinched, and was taken aback from that last part, "what?" he mumbled.
"I get that you're in pain for losing a daughter, but no seem to think of how I felt for the last two years. But now, I don't care anymore. I'm tired living this life that I have to torture for something I couldn't do that moment where I could've done something to save her. So if we ever get out of here, I'm gonna leave Thoto Island soon enough, and I hope once I'm gone, you can find peace in your heart."
The Soulpadres, and Koru sympathized the poor guy while Mauro had nothing to say after that knowing that Gussie felt just as miserable. "Dad, I'm so sorry," Lexi whimpered feeling her father was still not over with the pain over her loss. She walked towards him, and held his face.
"Okay," Vance sniffled, yet he held his tears back, from Gussie's words. "Now we can come up with a plan to escape."
All of a sudden, they heard a soft rustling noise. "Too late, they're back," March gulped.
However, no one was coming out from the woods which baffled especially the distracted gaurd so he stood up since he too doubted that it was his fellow insurgency that he prepared his gun for fire if it was not them. "Stay here," he told them in a stern way.
"Don't worry, it's not like we can go anywhere anyway," Perfida responded sarcastically.
When the man marched to search where the sound was coming from. All of a sudden, he was knocked out by a metal pole that he fell on the ground until he passed out, "Evan?" Gussie could not believe that his ex-friend was there, and saving their asses. "What are you doing here?"
Evan took the laser gun from the unconscious man, "what does it look like? I'm saving you guys," he answered which shocked Gussie as he went at the back of the tree.
"How do you know that we're even here?" Perfida asked him.
"I still have the FindMyPhone app with Gussie's and Koru's number in it," Evan replied. "Good thing, I still have them."
Gussie smiled at his friend. "Really?"
"Anyway, hold on." Evan shot the rope loose. The two ghost girls were in total relief that their loved ones were rescued.
Finally, they were freed. "Thanks," Perfida said to him.
"Don't mention it."
"Oh, isn't that sweet?" They immediately turned their heads, and to their horror because Taus returned carrying a small bag with the other insurgency as they pointed their weapons at them. "Sad that your ten seconds of freedom is futile."
Trapped once again, the Soulpadres and their companions were feeling hopeless to escape in that moment. "Let them go, it's me you want, right?" Mauro offered his life.
Gussie did not want so he brave stood in front of Mauro. "No! take me."
"Guys, don't do this," Perfida told them.
"That's enough!" Taus raised his voice at them in annoyance. "I don't to hear your heroic sacrifice. I'll take all of you!"
The insurgency were loading their weapons for few seconds, and they were going to pull the trigger. "NOO!" the two ghost girls screamed.
Reluctantly ready to accept their faith, Perfida and her friends looked away, and covered themselves. However, a white mists appeared surrounding them, that the goons got distracted, and confused. "What the...? a mists?" one of the insurgency quipped.
"What's happening?" Lexi was just as confounded with Perdita. "Why is there a mists?"
"Huh? guys?" Perfida looked around but she couldn't see anyone because it was getting thicker by the seconds, though she could hear them being scared as well and also heard something else. There was a soft humming sound that was getting louder.
"Peachy? Peachy? where are you?" Perdita called out to her sister, and searched for her twin, and eventually found her.
"Purdy, can you see the others?"
"No, I can't see them either."
In just a blink of an eyes, a figure in white stood right on front of the twins but it wasn't very clear. The two girls were stumped to see it before them, "oh my crapolai, it's a...." Perfida stuttered with fear.
"Wagan," the ghost twin gulped, and she was just as fearful.
They had seen ghosts before but this was different since it wasn't a dead person. The entity was just there, and their face couldn't be seen from the cloak they were wearing. "Saaa mmaaa," it uttered then just vanished.
The mists were staring to fade away, and everything became visible that everyone can see each other again. "Perfida!" March exclaimed in elation.
"March! Vance! Leyo!" Perfida expressed her relief especially the other four. "You're all okay."
"Yeah..." Gussie stuttered, and he sounded flustered.
"What..? What... was that?" Evan asked.
"I'm... not sure." The psychic realized when she looked around the site then her eyes widened. "Hey! look, the insurgencies, where are they?"
"What?" Vance darted to where their captors where.
They were astonished to see that the insurgencies just disappeared. "The Wagans. they were here," Koru recalled. "They must've took them."
"Well, let's not stay long to find out," Mauro suggested. "Let's get out of here."
"Right," everyone agreed then bolted away from the construction site.
