Chapter 26

"Gussie was WHAT!?" Archie exclaimed in disbelief as he was on the phone with Perfida by the balcony of his hotel room. "Peachy, get back to the resort, right away."

"Papoli, I can't, we had to get to the place where they're taking him before the French lose him too," Perfida said to him while she and her pals were on their way to the location.

"What?!" the old man exclaimed that he realized that people were starting to stare so he grinned at them so they could look away, after that he decided to lower his volume. "What are you talking about?"

"I had a vision, I can save him."

"Peachy, I know you care for Gussie, and that's great and all, but just let the police handle it."

"It's gonna be too late."

"But..."

"Oh! Papoli, I'm gonna talk to you later, okay?" Perfida put down the phone.

"Perfida, wait. You don't understand..." Archie was cut off from the call that he got annoyed from his granddaughters kept doing this to him then looked upward. "Apollo, son, if the other one die, I just want you to know that I did my best."

----

The older kids were still on the road to the place where Perfida saw in her vision, the two ghosts were at the very back, and Lexi was getting more and more worried for her boyfriend. "Lexi, it's going to okay," Perdita assured him.

"I just hope that he is, I don't want him to die," Lexi whimpered.

"I understand. Don't worry, my sister and her friends did this before, they will save him."

"So you can actually see ghosts?" Koru asked the psychic that was sitting beside her while he was driving.

"Yes," Perfida answered.

"And you have a ghost twin sister?"

"Yes."

"Oookay."

"I know, it's weird."

"Yeah, but I kinda believe in those stuff anyway so I get it."

"You do?" March quipped.

"I just never expected that from Ares city kids especially, a Livo," Koru babbled, Leyo nodded in reponse.

"Yeah, I'm just as suprised too," Perfida replied.

"Not a lot of new settlers like Gussie believe in those kind of stuff. So... if you can see ghosts."

"Mm hmm..."

"Do you see... Lexi too?"

"Uhm... ye..." Perfida saw Lexi shaking her head. "No... no, I mean I don't see her yet."

March, Vance, and Leyo looked at her in a weird way as to why she was lying to him. "Oh, I guess she moved on or something," Koru said.

"Yuup," the psychic muttered.

Some time later, they arrived. Koru stopped the car, and they all got out of the car, "so this is where you saw the kidnapper took Gussie?" Leyo asked.

"Just like in the vision," Perfida confirmed. "They went in there through the bushes. Let's go."

"Woah, wait." Koru stopped them. "We can't go in there."

"Why? But Gussie is in there."

"So does the insurgencies, I don't know how deal with ghosts but, they will definitely make you into one."

"Well, how bad can they be?" Vance asked but suddenly, laser were shot to the sky that it startled them, and the birds too. "Ookay, that's how bad they can be."

"Gussie!" Koru shouted, then just ran through the bushes.

"Koru, wait!" March went after him with the other kids.

Koru was getting scared for his friend that he was just running, and running in the forest until he saw a man about eight-feet away facing sideways carrying a laser gun that he just stopped. Before Koru could be seen, Leyo grabbed his shoulder and pulled him down then covered his mouth. "Shh..." the little Livo signalled to him.

March was there with them too by lying down on his stomach, which was how they caught up to him. Moments after, Vance and Perfida came by crawling their way to them with the ghosts with them. "What should we do?" March asked.

"Maybe we can ask the spirits to find Gussie," Vance suggested to the only psychic with them.

"Purdy?" Perfida turned to her twin sister.

"On it," Perdita replied.

"I'm coming with you," Lexi said to her.

"Sure, let's go."

----

Perdita, and Lexi were walking then finally they were getting near, "what do you want?" they heard someone shouting.

"Did you hear that? That's Gussie," Lexi said, she recognized his voice.

"We must be close," Perdita said.

Just a minute later, they found him. Gussie was tied on the tree with his eyes still being covered and there were two insurgencies keeping their eyes on him and they too had weapons. "Oh my God, Gussie," the dead girlfriend whimpered.

"What do you guys want?" Gussie questioned them, he was yelling yet he was frightened that he was in that kind of situation.

"Oh wow," Perdita mumbled since Gussie being a prisoner was not the only troubling thing she saw. He was being tied down in a middle of a construction site that was barely even started. Grasses and trees were gone in that one big area. "What is this place? Why does it look like this?"

Lexi looked around, and she immediately remembered. "I know this place."

"What is it?"

"My Dad bought this area, why are they taking him here?"

"Let's just go back to my sister and her friends."

They returned to the Soulpadres as they were waiting for them, "we found him," Perdita informed her sister.

"Really? where?" Perfida asked.

"We need to get my father first," Lexi interjected.

"What?" the sisters said in unison.

"Why? what's wrong?" Koru whispered.

"Lexi said that we need to get his father," Perfida answered.

"Huh? why?" March quipped.

"This is my father's property," Lexi said.

"She said that it's her father's property," Perfida repeated what the spirit told her.

"Cruz Tradings," Koru realized. "I remember. I remember her father was going to make a town house here, because new settlers keep coming here."

"But the insurgency does not want that?" Vance said.

"No, they are crazy mad. They think new settlers want to ruin the island."

Perfida had this realization, the reason why and how Lexi died in the first place. "Take us to Gussie," she whispered to her sister.

----

The ghosts lead the group to where their friend was by staying low. Not long after, they stopped, "we're here," Perdita informed. "And so does the insurgency."

"Let's keep quiet because they're here," Perfida informed the boys. They carefully peaked over the bushes, and saw Gussie being prisoner.

"Gussie," Koru gasped, but it was loud enough that the insurgency could hear him that he looked over to his side so the kids quickly ducked down. Luckily, they were not caught.

"DUDE, SSHUUSSHHH...." Vance reminded him since they were almost seen.

"Sorry. What are we gonna do? He's in danger."

"We know that, but that dude is armed."

"We can't just sit here."

"I know, we just need good timing to help Gussie," Perfida replied.

"Alright, how?" Koru asked. "Can't you ask you ghost twin to do something? Like telekinetic?"

"Sorry, it doesn't work that way."

"We'll just have to wait," March said. "But out of curiousity, what do they do to people who are new settlers anyway?"

"I never know." Koru shrugged. Suddenly they heard the sound of a vehicle. "What's going on now?"

The kids looked over the bushes once again, they saw a small truck. "Look. There's more of them coming," Perfida said.

One man came, that they all instantly recognized with this look of shock. "That's... that's..." Koru stammered.

"That's Sheri's crazy son," Vance agaped.

"She did say that he's one of them."

"What's his name again?"

"Taus," Vance answered. "This guy must've kept a closer eye after we met."

They watched the son of the inn they stayed talking with the man that was gaurding Gussie. The poor guy remembered, and not because they just met earlier, but that he just beat him up for no reason when he saw him staying in his mother's house.

However, they heard a loud murmuring sound from the inside of the truck, and saw the other two man went inside then took out another prisoner. It was not just another person, "Dad?" Lexi cried seeing her father tied up with duct tape over his mouth, and was squirming to release himself from his captors.

"Mr. Cruz?" Koru aghasted.

"Who's that?" Perfida quipped.

"Lexi's father."

"That's Lexi's father?"

"Yes."

"Oh crap, so is this what happened to the other victims of the wagans?" Leyo asked.

"Well, I think we know now that it's not the spirits that was responsible of people disappearing," Vance added.

"This is still horrible," March expressed.

"Please, save them," the ghost girl begged to the psychic girl seeing his father looked so helpless, and scared. Plus, Mauro seem all beaten up before being kidnapped.

"Alright, alright, we will," Perfida reassured her.

----

They continued watching as the insurgency had their hands on Mauro then took of the duct tape from his mouth. "Unhand me, you thugs. What is this!? what do you want!?" he asked in anger. "Gussie?"

"Mr. Cruz?" Gussie was just as confused to see his late-girlfriend's father also in the same predicament as he was.

"What is the meaning of this?! Why are we here?"

"You took our land, and you will pay what we lose with your life," Taus answered.

"You're nuts," Mauro grumbled.

"People like you keep taking what's ours."

"People like you give Zumuyans a bad name," Gussie interjected.

"Shut up!" one of the men shouted then knocked the guy on the stomach with back of his lasergun.

"Gussie!" Lexi weeped, while the other kids were horrified that they got physical towards their prisoner who was their friend.

"Tie him up with that bastard," Taus commanded his goons, so the thugs did what he told them to do.

"NO! no! you can't do this to me! let me go!" Mauro yelled for his dear life. Soon after, the insurgencies left them alone.

"This is our chance. Don't worry, we'll get out of here," Gussie assured him as he tried to find ways to be freed.

"This is all your fault!"

"Excuse me?!"

"Because of you, my daughter is dead. And now, we're here because of you."

"First of, that's not my fault, and what makes you think this my fault now?" Gussie questioned his dead girlfriend's father since he was somehow to blame in the situation.

"You must've done something to anger them," Mauro argued.

"So we're doing a blaming game now? Right, because I woke up this morning and thought: How will I pissed the insurgencies off, and involve my dead girlfriend's dad?"

"Quit your sarcasm, Boy. You're here too."

"It's your fault, you're the one that took what's their's," Gusse argued back.

"I bought this property, and why are you here?"

"They took me here."

"What did you do?" The kept pointing his fingers to the poor guy.

"Nothing, okay?" Gussie insisted. "I was just helping one of them packed, and they ambushed me."

"Why would you help an insurgency?"

"BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW THAT IT WAS THEM."

"Don't you use that tone on me!"

"Do you want to argue or do you want to get out of here?"

"That's why we're here." Koru emerged with the others, and started rescuing them.

"Perfida? Koru? March?" Gussie was surprised to see them.

"Who are you all?" Mauro quipped.

"What are you guys doing here?"

"Uhm... saving you," Perfida answered while trying to figure out how to untie them.

"We'll stay on gaurd," Vance said with Leyo keeping a watchful eye if any of those men would come back.

"Friends of yours?" Mauro sarcastically quipped.

"Yes, they are are," Gussie answered with the same tone.

"How did you guys find us?"

Everyone exchanged glances whether to tell them how they were actually found, "uhm... we managed to follow their car here," Perfida lied.

"Yup, that's... right. What she said." Koru played along.

"Really? But..."

"Stop asking so we need to get you out of here fast," March added.

However, they were struggling that it took them a long time, "this is hopeless," Perfida sighed in frustration.

Fortunately, Koru found a safety laser lying around so he grabbed it. "Get back, I got this." He began turning it on, and the rope began to melt a smidge.

"Hurry..." Gussie whined because it took more time.

"I'm trying. Almost there. If I increase the power, the tree would burn down" It was thick but the laser was able to melt through it. It may took forever but Gussie, and Mauro were finally let go.

"Yes! come on, let's bolt," Vance urged them.

They were about to leave but one insurgency emerged, and pointed a gun at them, "where do you think you're going?" he said to them in a sinister way, so the group stopped, and sadly, faced their affliction.
