Chapter 19
The night continued, Vance sitting with his friends getting praised by them and by the other guests. "You were amazing!" Perfida squeeled as she embraced him.
"You definitely were," March agreed, Vance just gave him a sweet grin in response.
"That's one performance there, boys," Ram complimented him and his son. "Great job, both of you."
"Thanks, Mr. French," Vance said.
For the first time in ages, Gussie could tell his father was proud of him, "thanks, dad," he told his dad with a smile on his face even Torrey was glad to see her husband said something nice to him. "But Vance did all the work."
"Oh come on, Gussie. I just sing, I didn't arrange the whole thing, you did all the work," Vance reminded him.
"He's right, son, you did all this and it went very well," Ram added.
"We're very proud of you," Torrey said. "And I must say Vanzant, you are a phenomenal singer."
"Thank you, Mrs. French," Vance replied.
After eating their dinner, the newly engaged couple were slow dancing on the middle of the dining area were there was a space enough to do that for couple like them to just be together and be romantic. They were too happy that they let other guests dance with them, "little man, let's ask mother and daughter to dance with us shall we," Archie said to his grandson.
"Okay," Bryce answered.
"Ask the girl nicely, Bryce," Torrey advised the little boy, Bryce just nodded in response, she then turned to her husband. "Well... aren't you gonna ask me to the dancefloor?"
Ram smirked at her and took her hand, "I don't have to ask you that".
March gazed over to Vance wishing that he would ask him yet that could only happen in his dream, he wanted to invite to dance but that wouldn't be right. "Hmm... I feel like dancing. Perfida, you want to dance with me?" Vance asked her instead.
Perfida was reluctant since she knew March wanted it more than she did, "yes, I do," she replied instead so the two stood up and went off to dance.
"It's okay, March," Perdita pitied him, she could see the sadness in his face, she gave March a hug even though he could not feel her touch while he watched his two best friends danced together, not that he was jealous because it was just platonic.
"You like him, don't you?" Gussie asked.
March was too choked up to respond. "Yes, he does," Leyo blurted.
"Dude!" March grunted to the little Livo.
"Sorry."
"Yes. It's true."
"I knew it," Gussie snickered.
"Crap, is it obvious?" March felt embarrassed.
"Please, I saw how you looked at him when he was singing, I think you were drooling."
"Oh! Gosh."
Vance was waltzing with Perfida and happened to glanced over March talking to Gussie. "They seem comfy with each other," he gave her an eye contact to show her. "Do you think something is going on between them?"
Perfida subtly looked at them, "they're just talking," she said. "Why?"
"Nothing, I just thought there's something."
"Come on, tell me."
"Promise me that this goes no further."
Perfida felt in her gut that she should know about this, "okay, what is it?"
"Lately, I feel like March and I can't see each other eye-to-eye."
"Are you sure?" Perfida gulped. "He seems okay to me."
"Yeah, when you and Leyo are around."
"Uhm... Why... would you think that?"
"Peach... me and him and Leyo sleep in the same room. Yeah... we talked but it's like we're just... civil or something and now, he's talking to Gussie... which is great and all, but I don't know... lately, it has been so weird."
"He... didn't say anything to me."
"Maybe, I'm just overthinking it."
Even though, Perfida struggled because she was starting to feel bad for keeping March's secret since it was about Vance but after looking that he was wrangling his head. "Okay..." she sighed. "He's... just going through some things."
"Really? like what?."
"I... can't tell you, it's a secret."
"Then I'll act that I didn't know."
"I'm sorry, I really can't, I promised him that I won't tell anyone."
"Damn. Is it serious?"
"Uhm... yeah, something like that. Listen, I'll... handle this and talk to him, if you want."
Vance didn't answer after that and just nodded in response then hugged her when they were still dancing, "thanks, Peachy, I knew I can count on you," he said in a soft tone but it was a torture to Perfida because this meant that Vance trusted her to be honest yet she wasn't.
"Why don't we dance together?" Gussie invited March.
"You serious?" March was taken aback by that.
Gussie stood up from his seat and put his hand out, "come on, dance with me."
"Alright. You okay being alone here, Leyo?"
"Yes, I can't dance anyway," Leyo replied.
The two began dancing together, "you know, this is the first time I dance with a guy," March said to him as he placed his hands on Gussie's shoulder while put his hand on his hips.
"I'm not surprise by that," Gussie respond. "Well, this is not my first."
"Hmm... Lucky you but are you...?"
"No, you don't have to be one to dance with them, right?"
"I guess," March glanced over towards Vance which Gussie noticed.
"I have an idea."
"What?"
"Just follow my lead, you'll thank me later," Gussie winked at him, the two somehow danced their way to Vance and Perfida. "Hey, guys, why don't we switch dance partner?"
"Uhmm," Vance uttered as he and Perfida exchanged glance. "Sure."
"Great, you take March and I'll take her."
"Me?" Perfida choked. "Uhm... okay".
"Let's go," Gussie grabbed her wrist, pulled her away from Vance and they disappeared into the crowd.
The boys were stuped that they were left together, it got very awkward because they just stood there looking at each other and being shy. "Uhm... wanna dance?" Vance questioned.
March nodded, the two did not know which one do what that they collided to one another, "sorry... sorry," he stammered.
"It's cool, let's do it this way" Vance held March's hand and placed it to his shoulder then began slow dancing together.
March was beaming but was trying to control her facial expression so it won't be obvious, "you know, I just know told Gussie that I never danced with a guy before," he told him.
"It's cool, I feel the same way with my first time dancing with a guy so you're good, you're okay."
"Great," March sighed in relief.
Meanwhile, Gussie and Perfida were at the other side of the dance floor the two looked at each other, "he told you that he likes him, did he?"
"Yup," he confirmed. "And don't worry, that secret will be safe with me."
"I guess you're okay."
"Thanks, and you're not bad yourself."
"Pfft... I know that". Perfida looked over to her two friends, "they look so cute together, if... they can together that is."
"Yeah..." Gussie suddenly remembers Lexi and Perfida could see that.
"You miss her, huh?"
"A lot. Two years and it still hurts."
"I get it."
"Well, I feel stupid when we got off on the wrong foot."
"Gussie. Stop, it's over. We're good now."
"Thanks," he hugged her. "March is right, you really are the best."
"I know," she answered, Perfida reciprocated his hug. "Okay, don't make it weird."
They two laughed then Gussie pulled himself from her, "I heard that from him too," he snickered.
Lexi watched from the side and beamed that Perfida and Gussie were getting along well. Really well from where she was standing.

The party was over, Perfida was in the balcony with March sitting together on a bench looking at the night sky, just the two of them while the others were in their room. "Did you enjoy dancing with Vance," she asked him.
"Awesome, it was like I'm in a dream," March answered as he still felt like he in that magical moment. "Now I know how Cinderella feels before the clock strikes twelve. What about you? what's it like dancing with Gussie? Did you two exhange snide remarks or something?"
"No, nothing like that," she chuckled. "He was just thanking me again."
"Speaking of him. Apparently, it's obvious to him too that I like him."
"You were drooling."
"Oh crap! Did I?"
"No," Perfida laughed.
"You jerk". March lightly punched her arm. "By the way, Did Vance say anything back there?"
"That's what I want to talk to you about."
"Oh no, are you saying he knows?"
"No, it's not like that, he still doesn't know so... chill."
"Oh! good."
"But he could tell something is not right and by something, he means you."
"Like what?"
"Like... you are being weird around him lately that you don't talk to him... much."
"I talk to him," he claimed defensively.
"Yeah but not like the way it was before we all found out that he's in a relationship with a guy in his old school," Perfida reminded, March felt foolish once she said that. "Listen, I get that you're heart broken now and you have every right to be but Vance could see that you are not yourself these past days and he's kinda worried."
"This sucks, he's worried about me as a friend but not... more than that."
"Aww... March, at least he cares, right?" Perfida leaned her head to his shoulder to comfort him.
"It's just so hard, imagine being with a guy you like but he likes someone else."
"And he's your friend."
"And he's my friend," he sulked. "Why did we have to meet in the wrong time?"
"Universe works in mysterious ways but seriously, you need to put your act together if you don't want Vance to know that you like him."
"I know, I know."
All of a sudden, they heard a heavy thump like someone fell so they stopped talking and became alert, "did you hear that?" she quipped.
"Yeah," he answered and also trying to listen, then they heard moaning like someone is in pain.
"It sounds like it's coming from over there". Perfida then ran to it to see what it was.
"Wait for me". March chased after her.
They rushed to the other side of the balcony and the moaning was getting louder and louder, "hey, is someone there?" she yelled but no answer.
Perfida and March got to the ledge and looked down, they could see a man face down and struggling to get up. "Oh! shit," March gasped.
"Hey! you okay? do you need help?" Perfida called out, the man didn't respond again but then he got up from his knees and bolted away like a bat out of cave. "Hey! hey!"
"What the heck?"
"I know, that was odd, what was that?" Perfida commented as he looked at him, the two were stuped at that mystery man being injured and just went away not wanting any aid from them.
