Chapter 1
The Sweeney twins were in the police station by the main entrance to meet up with Hawkes but he was in a meeting, he made them come early but they were waiting for thirty minutes "if I knew he was going take this long, I'd at least have time to find the other sock and put on the same pair," Perfida complained because she did wear two different socks, one was light purple but the other was mustard yellow.
"Yeah, you look silly," Perdita replied.
"Is it that bad?"
"No, just silly."
"Thanks, Purdy," Perfida sighed from her sister's honest remark.
"What's taking him so long?"
"Who knows but I might as well... make a new friend," Perfida spotted a young male cadet around the same age as her and easy on the eyes so she approached him.
"He's cute. Good luck!"
"Hi!" she greeted him by putting on her charms. "Are you new here?".
"Yeah, I just enrolled in the academy," the guy said to her in a friendly manner. "What about you? Are you here to enroll for the next term?"
"Uhm... no, I'm here to see... a friend."
"Oh! cool."
"Yeah, by the way are you single?" but all of sudden, she was pulled away from him.
"Cadet. Go to the lecture room now," Hawkes directed.
"Yes, Captain," the boy gulped yet tried to put on a straight face and saluted him then walked away.
Hawkes then faced Perfida who felt a bit embarrassed that she did something wrong from the looks on his stern face "and you, I didn't invite you here to fraternize with the cadets."
"I didn't do it for me, it's for my friend, March, I was just being a wing woman."
"His heart got stomped on and it shattered into millions of pieces," Perdita added and tried to sound sympathetic.
"Whatever," he groaned. "Just don't do it when they're in uniforms."
"Deal, so why am I here?" Perfida asked.
"Since you are leaving for an out of town trip, I am investigating a kidnapping case and I need your psychometry ability."
"I'm working for another police case?" Perfida gasped and somehow excited about it.
"Not working, you are assisting."
"Wait, did you say kidnapping?" Perfida quipped, Hawkes nodded his head in response. "So the victim is not dead?"
"Let's hope not, I got something from the victim's belongings but I need to see if you can get more information on your end."
"You think it can still work even when he's not a ghost?"
"Yes, why not?"
"Huh, I never knew that, let's try it," she answered.
They got to a meeting room, Hawkes and Zev sat down with her to take notes from her vision while Perdita stood by and watch "like before, I'm not going to tell you the name and other details, you need to figure that out on your own," Hawkes told her then handed to her a shirt that was belonged to the victim. "Here, just touch it and tell us what you see."
"Okay," Perfida had the shirt in her hand and started feeling it to get a premonition. She began focusing on its spiritual energy "I see lettera, it's an initial with a name starts with a K and his surname is H, that's all I'm getting."
"That's fine, now what else you see?"
"Uhm... not much, it's dark with little, very little spec of light but I can see water, like a stream and it's filthy and weirdly, I can smell it."
The two detectives exchanged looks "I didn't caught that one," Hawkes said. "Can you describe it a bit more specifically?"
"It's kinda green, smells sewery and uriney," Perfida choked feeling disgusted almost wanting to vomit yet she swallowed it.
"You okay?".
"Yuuup. Okay, now I see a person... it's a woman."
"Young? middle-aged?"
"Middle-aged," Perfida nodded. "Yeah, I can see her very clearly. I can definitely sketch it, if you want."
"Of course," then handed her their tablet to draw.
"No, I'm old school, I like pen and paper better," Perfida took out her sketch journal and a pen, she closed her eyes to picture the woman's face better then started illustrating it. "Her eyes are dark grey, nose is kinda long and pointy, her is grey with this style of bangs on her forehead," having a psychic ability is impressive enough but they were more amazed at her artistic talent and how detailed she made the face with just a hand sketch.
"Wow, kid, you're good," Zev complimented.
"I agree, that is almost a perfect portrait," Hawkes added
"You think so? Thanks" Perfida quipped, she did not know to herself that she was good at her skill, she resumed drawing then tear the paper from her journal and gave it to them. "Here you go."
Hawkes took a quick look at the sketch then said to Perfida "perfect, this is very helpful, thank you."
"Bingo, we have our culprit," Zev exclaimed.
"I think we got everthing we need from you," Hawkes told Perfida.
"Stellar," Perfida felt proud that she helped solved a case.
"Great job, Peachy," Perdita cheered since she was happy for her sister.
"That was kinda fun, maybe not all the time but I like doing it," Perfida expressed afterwards she, her sister and Hawkes walked out of the station.
"Don't worry, there'll be more to come once you get back in your trip," Hawkes chuckled.
"Yeah, but that's when my parents will return from base camp with my brother..."
"Stepbrother," Perdita corrected.
"Stepbrother," Perfida rolled her eyes that her sister had to butt in to say that, Hawkes just kept quiet yet he could see Perdita's resentment towards her step family that made him worried that she could do something about it from her jealousy. "... And they don't know about me and you too..."
"I know, I understand," Hawkes replied. "We'll work something out, just out of curiosity, do you ever try to tell them?"
"No, it's... very hard and beside, my mom is a scientist, she and dad."
"Ahem... Stepdad," Perdita corrected her again.
".... Stepdad think this stuff is nonsense and they don't like to talk about it too."
"I see," Hawkes comprehended. "What about your brother?".
"Stepbrother," Perdita had to correct him too, Hawkes tried to hold his irritation.
"Perdita would rather not want me to tell him about her because she doesn't... see... them... as... part of our family."
"I notice," Hawkes mumbled as he looked over to Perdita's way.
The RodeCar arrived to bring Perfida home "there's my ride, I'm gonna meet my friends in TocaTokyo, I'll see you when I get back from Thoto, bye."
"Enjoy your trip and do try to avoid getting killed. Perdita, keep an eye on your sister."
"I will, bye!" the twins answered back as they get into the car.
"Bye."
In TocaTokyo, Perfida arrived first with her drink in her hand then March arrived "hey, where's Vance?" she asked with a strange look in her face.
"On the way here with Leyo," March sighed.
"Still avoiding him?"
Lately, March have been aloof toward Vance after finding out that he liked another guy which Perdita enjoying seeing his misery "yeah, I mean I don't want to but it's just hard, you know."
"I get it but you can't do that forever, he's our... soulpadre."
"Don't you think I don't know that?" he grumbled quickly. "I'm not gonna stop being friends with him, it's just not easy talking to him."
"You do know that you're gonna share a room with him?"
"Yes, I know that, Leyo is bunking with us too, remember? it's fine."
"And who knows, maybe you'll find someone in Thoto."
"See, there's a silver lining but for now, I have to deal with him being all sweet and cuddly to his curly, dark and handsome," March expressed his sadness, Perfida hugged him to comfort him through his heart break. "Why universe? Why? why do you have to create such irresistible guy for Vance to like?"
"Pssh... he's not that cute if you ask me," Perfida denied.
"Oh! shut up! I'd date him too."
"Agree," Perdita said out loud to her sister since she knew that March couldn't hear her.
"He's not that cute, do you see his hair? it's like cotton candy that... rots. His jawline, I mean... it's so sharp that it can cut my finger, who wants that?" Perfida tried to smear him, Perdita shook her head and rolled her eyes at her sister's failed defamation. "And his eyes, ugh..."
"Just stop," March told her.
"Okay," but then Perfida saw Vance and Leyo coming. "Incoming, pull yourself together."
"Okay, okay," March fixed himself up so it won't look like he was blubbering.
The two entered the restaurant and saw them "hey! guys," Perfida plastered a grin in her face.
"March? you're here... already?" Vance greeted and he find it odd that March did not go with them since they lived in the same neighbourhood.
"Yup," March choked in response.
"Why didn't you just come here with us?"
The atmosphere got awkward that Perfida could only drink her milk tea without stopping while Leyo was clueless as to what was going on. "Oh uhmm I was... with my dad... to help him... with... some stuff," March lied. "Sorry, I didn't message you that I'll went straight here, my dad can be... very... chatty that I forgot to text you."
Perfida leered to Vance "oh, no problem," he said then took his seat and started ordering with Leyo. "So how was the meeting with Hawkes?"
"I kinda helped with this kidnapping investigation," Perfida answered.
"That's so stellar."
"Yeah, I just wish it wasn't so early," she yawned because she didn't have enough sleep.
"Anyway, I can't wait to go to Thoto, this is my first time going there, what about you guys?".
"It's our second," Perfida replied. "We were nine, right?"
"Yeah, the AGA were giving donations to the people there to gain their trust so that cosmic citizens can settle there in peace".
"Really?" Vance was surprised at that.
"Yup, back then it was just an island," Leyo said.
"But now, it's paradise," March chimed in excitement. "I've seen the changes online but this time we'll see it person so it's kinda our first time to see the development over the years".
"I don't know about you guys but I look forward to see..."
"Museums?" March bluntly finished her sentence.
"No, not only that, What I mean is... Sweet Sweet Galaxy!" Perfida shrieked
March gasped with delight, "Holy Gs, YES!!"
"I too look forward to that," Leyo expressed
"What's Sweet Sweet Galaxy?" Vance asked as he was the only who didn't understand what they were fussing about it.
"It's this spot in Thoto that the Ghax tried to grow medicine plants but something when wrong that the area is covered with pink, yellow and blue sand and foamy thing that made it look like candy land," Perfida described. "Only without the candy of course".
"Seriously?" Vance seem intruiged. "This I like to see."
"You're gonna love it".
"Where are we staying again?" Leyo asked.
"My grandpa has a friend who lives there and owns this resort, he offered it to him."
"Stellar!" March exclaimed then stood up from his seat. "Anyway, I'll just go get some sandwich in the counter."
"Oh! me too, I'll go with you," Vance said.
"On second thought, I need to go the bathroom," March hurried himself to the restroom to dodge Vance as he was starting to get doubtful from his recent behaviours, Perfida cringed a bit that he had to do that.
Vance shook it off thinking that he had other things that bothered him that he didn't want to talk about then spoke to Perfida "so do you think we'll find some spirits to help?" he playfully asked.
"Maybe," Perfida shrugged. "Maybe not?"
