Chapter 29
Lucy's POV
Levy-chan had been dropping by to deliver news about the matches that had been happening on the arena today. It seems that they had organized a tag team battle for the fourth day of the Games. I feel kind of down that I can't witness the fights with my own two eyes. Just through Levy-chan's stories, I can clearly tell that they were amazing! Too bad..
I'm truly grateful to my best friend who didn't fail to update me with the latest news. Despite the fact that i'm here, lying on a hospital bed, i'm still up-to-date with the games. But that won't stay for long. Through endless begging and pleading, I finally managed to convince Porlyusica-san to discharge me later just so I could witness the last match for today. It's something I'm going to miss. The first time I heard this from Levy-chan, my heart skipped with worry and excitement. I'm confused whether I should be worried about them or be pumped that Sabertooth would finally receive the lesson they deserve after having put up with them for days filled with arrogance and narcissism.
For today's last tag team match, it will be the most awaited battle between dragon slayers. Natsu and Gajeel vs. Sting and Rogue. The highlight of the games. From what I've heard, the audience had been anticipating the same match. They, too, had been waiting for it. They're expecting an epic battle. And i'm sure, they wouldn't disappoint. Those 4 had created a deep rivalry in such a short period of time, with grave tension that can suffocate the whole of Domus Flau. Far too competitive and stubborn in a high degree. They're at their own level that even the highly respected mages that are participating, such as Kagura and Jura, can't even reach.
From what I collected, the two tag matches are over with some really satisfying results. Turns out that Blue Pegasus and Mermaid Heel had won those battles. After hearing the name of the participants of both winning teams, I couldn't say I had expected the outcomes. Both guilds had been smart enough in terms of choosing their participants, putting compatibility and chemistry into deep consideration.
"Are you really sure you're okay, Lucy-san? I mean, you just got poisoned and all." The little dragon slayer asked, concern painted on her angel like features. Wendy, Carla and I are on our way to the main arena to watch the anticipated last tag match between Fairy Tail and Sabertooth. The dark blue haired teen had been fussing over me since I left the comforts of the plain white bed. The sincerity of the concern she shows over my health really touches my heart. She could be a really good healer in the future.
"Yes, Wendy. I'm fine, don't worry. I wouldn't be able to rest even if I wanted to anyways. This match is too big to let pass." I assured the younger girl, patting her head softly. She looks like she wanted to say more but decided against it, giving me a bright smile instead. Guess she had given up on persuading me to rest. She learned how stubborn I am.
"Just immediately let me know if you suddenly feel something weird." Wendy clarified which I answered with an obedient nod. We soon reached the balcony that resides most of the Fairy Tail members. As I was making my way up front, several members had dropped what they were doing, be it cheering or talking to someone, just to greet me. After multiple 'i'm ok' and 'thank you', I had finally reached the front where I stood beside the Solid Script Mage. Master was also there, as well as First, who had asked for an update regarding my health.
It didn't take long before they announced the start of the match. Like the previous battles, the pumpkin mascot had claimed his spot in the middle of the deserted arena where he usually does his greetings and announcements. The audience had long started their constant cheering, each taking sides and personal bets.
"This is it, folks! The most awaited event for today!" Cheers had erupted in the open stadium, excitement practically bouncing off from every corner.
"The Tag Battle between the dragon slayers is about to begin! Fairies against Sabers! The reigning number one guild competing against the former guild on top! For the last match, we have Fairy Tail vs. Sabertooth!" His opening remark had been positively received by the audience, earning him loud cheers filled with enthuasiam.
"For Sabertooth, may I call forth Sting Eucliffe and Rogue Cheney!" The mentioned twin dragon slayers of our rival guild emerged from the entrance, walking towards the middle of the arena with so much arrogance radiating off from them, threatening to choke me. Tch.
"And now, I give you Natsu Dragneel and Gajeel Redfox from Fairy Tail!" The familiar and not to mention, bizarre, combination had came out from their corner, hands held up high in the air in a gesture that I know too well. The Fairy Tail sign..
Once they reached the center, stopping at a safe distance from their enemies, they dare start a glaring contest with the twins. The Sabertooth mages didn't falter however, stepping up to match their terrifying stares. You have to be oblivious and clueless to not feel the suffocating tension surrounding them. This was supposed to be just games, a way to determine who comes on top. Clearly, they forgot about that little fact. As of now, they're letting personal issues eat them. It's no longer about guild rivalry. Rather, it's about which generation is more powerful. 1st or 3rd generation. A matter of pride and honor. And that's exactly what makes this match exciting.
"Your 30 minutes start now!" The Fairies launched the first attack. Even before the twin Sabers could process the mascot's words, Natsu and Gajeel rushed towards them, hurriedly showering them with powerful punches. I could tell that Sting and Rogue was having a hard time keeping up with them, clearly overwhelmed with the amount of strength our dragon slayers was giving off. From the looks of it, they had underestimated them before the match began, and now, they're paying for the consequences of belittling them. For looking down on them.
The Fire and Iron Dragon slayers didn't dare let them fight back as they continued catching them off guard. The Twin Dragons tried so hard to come back to their senses but the Fairies wasn't planning on stopping. They kept on performing highly coordinated attacks, surprising even us, their guild mates, with the partnership they're displaying. Those two never, i repeat never, got along. They would always fight, annoyed even by the mere presence of the other. They were trained by powerful dragons with dominant elements. They were born to clash, to lead, to not get along. But seeing them fight as one, it's amazing. The extent their power reaches by working together. It's something..
Some minutes later, Natsu and Gajeel seemed to have reached their limit, slowing down before completely halting their punches and jumping back to put some distance between them. They were huffing but aside from that, they looked fine. They were just out of breath but they're far from reaching their limits. The other party, however, didn't looked tired. Instead, they looked pissed. Guess they weren't used to being overpowered like that. They had been the reigning number one guild. They're used to being feared and worshipped. Being pushed around like that wasn't something they're accustomed to.
"Seems like we underestimated you a bit." Sting declared, cracking his knuckles as if warming up like he hadn't been punched at all.
"You think?" The iron dragon slayer asked rather sarcastically, crossing his bulk arms in front of his chest. From the looks of it, he and Natsu had grown wary. They seem to had sense that the twins is planning something.
"Guess we'll have to go all out." With that being said, they had changed their stance. All of a sudden, I could feel their magic level gradually increasing. Like they had been given a boost or something.
"White drive" i heard Sting said. He was engulfed by a strange white aura that had added to his high magic level.
"Shadow drive." The same thing happened to Rogue, only his aura was pure black. With the sudden escalation of their magic, I thought that Natsu and Gajeel would finally take this fight seriously. That they would battle them with their full strength. Guess not. At least, not yet.
"Did you really defeated your dragons with that kind of strength?" Natsu decided to add more fuel to their pent up anger. But instead of getting mad like I had thought, the Sabers just smirked.
"We didn't defeated them. We killed them. With our own bare hands." Sting replied, clenching his fists hard to emphasize his point. His statement obviously irked the fire wielder.
"But they were your parents! The one who raised you! How could you—"
"But isn't that their purpose? To teach us magic that could kill them? Of course we need to try our own magic! To see if they actually succeeded! It's their own damn fault, anyway. They raised their own killers." His comment was way out of the line. Even I knew that.
"You b*stard!" Natsu charged, but unlike earlier, Sting finally managed to fight back. Gajeel rushed forward as well, but Rogue depleted his attack. They started fighting again, this time the twins didn't hold back. Seemingly like dancing, they had exchanged blows after blows. But this time, it's the fairies that are having a hard time. They're having trouble fighting back.
Natsu and Gajeel were being pushed back, forced to take steps having been overwhelmed by the twins retaliation.
"You see, Natsu? This here is the true power of a 3rd Generation! You have no chance on winning! Tch. I can finally fulfill my life goal of surpassing you!" Sting annunciated, a smirk playing on his lips. He had launched another attack directed to Natsu. But this one was different from the rest. It left a strange glowing mark on his now exposed stomach. What the hell is that?
