Chapter 8
** WARDEN GEORGE CLOONEY (pictured above) **
************
'Why? Why am I such a dumb*ss?' Tim fought with himself as he lay in his bunk, staring at the concrete wall that was only inches from his face. 'I probably just blew any trust that he had with me right out the window. That is if this God forsaken place had windows. I know he's confused and he's hurting, why in the hell did I kiss him. Cause your a dumb*ss, Foust.'
Tim sighs and rolls his eyes. Something catches his attention that quickly brings him out of his thoughts. From the bunk above him, he hears a muffled sob. His heart broke. But that quiet sob only made him hate himself more. Was he the reason?
Tim reaches up and softly knocks on the bunk above him.
"Adam? Are you crying?" He asks in a soft voice.
"No." Adam lies as he quickly wipes his tears.
"Oh, Okay." Tim replies, knowing that the man above him was indeed crying. "I, uh, I just wanted to let you know that if you need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here."
"Thanks, but I'm fine." Adam answers with a shaky voice.
Tim nods even though he knew his cellmate couldn't see him.
'That's real great, Foust. He f*cking hates you and your horny ass.' Tim thought.
The cell was dark, illuminated only by the lights of the cellblock walkways outside of the cells.
Tim stares at his mom's picture that he had taped to the wall. Wondering what she was doing back in Texas and if she ever thought of him. His eyes begin to burn as he fights back the tears.
"Tim?" Adam's calls to him in a soft voice.
Tim quickly looks around to see Adam's silhouette kneeling by his bunk.
"Yeah?" Tim asks after swallowing the lump in his throat.
"I might not need a shoulder to cry on but I could use someone to just hold me." Adam whispers softly.
Tim nods and quickly scoots over to give Adam some room.
Adam crawls into the bunk beside him and lays his head down on Tim's shoulder. Tim wraps his arms.
"Are you alright?" Tim asks as he rubs his thumb up and down Adam's arm.
"Yeah, I guess. Just a lot on my mind." Adam says. "What about you? You looked pretty sad when you looked around."
"Just thinking." Tim answers with a heavy sigh as he glances around at the picture of his mom. Which didn't go unnoticed by Adam.
"About what?" Adam asks.
"Just how quickly someone can walk out of your life. Someone that you'd thought would always be there." Tim says, biting on his bottom lip.
"I'm sorry." Adam says softly. "Looks like I'm not the only person that's needing to be held."
With that, Adam wraps his arm around Tim's waist and hugs him closer.
"Guess we can drown in each other's sorrow." Tim chuckles lightly. "Adam, I am so sorry about earlier. I shouldn't have done it."
"Don't worry about it. It's alright." Adam says, shaking his head slightly.
"It may not look like it right now, Adam. But everything will be okay." Tim whispers as he places a light kiss on Adam's forehead.
"I hope you're right." Adam says before sleeping off to sleep.
~~
The next morning, Tim wakes up with empty arms. He raises his head to see Adam standing at the cell door looking out.
Adam stood and watched each cell as it came alive with movement. Inmates getting ready to do the same thing they did yesterday and the day before that and the day before that.
He suddenly feels Tim's warm gentle hands massage his shoulders. He wanted so badly to lean back into his touch. But instead, he grips tighter onto the bars.
"How'd you sleep?" Tim asks next to his ear. His low voice sending chills up and down Adam's spine.
"Surprisingly, like a baby." Adam manages a smile. "Thanks."
"Anytime." Tim says as he turns and heads to the toilet.
"Did you love him?" Adam asks from out of nowhere.
"Who?" Tim asks as he peed.
"Your husband?" Adam asks, leaning against the bars.
Tim was silent for a moment as he washed his hands.
"Yeah, yeah, I loved him." Tim finally answers, drying his hands on the paper towels provided. "I loved him so much in drove me insane to find him cheating."
"What was his name?" Adam asks.
"Matt." Tim answers. "But, I really don't want to talk about him, if that's alright."
"No, that's fine." Adam smiles. "You know, when I first came here I truly thought that you were like an evil robot with no feelings. A man of steel."
"I'm definitely not the man of steel." Tim smiles and lowers his voice to a rough whisper. "I'm Batman."
"Oh. Okay, Batman." Adam chuckles. "Let's go shower and eat breakfast."
"Sure thing, Boy Wonder." Tim smirks as he drapes an arm over Adam's shoulder.
After showering and eating breakfast, they head back to the cellblock. The inmates were usually allowed to walk around freely for most of the day. As long as no trouble broke out.
Tim and Adam stood at the railing in front of their cell looking down at Cellblock A.
"What kind of prisoners are down in Cellblock A?" Adam asks.
"The prisoners like robbers, child molesters, rapists. That's why they keep us separated. They know we'd kill their sorry *asses." Tim answers. "They have different everything. Different guards, doctor, therapist even showers and cafeteria. We can't get down there and they can't get up here."
Adam nods as he begins to look around just taking in the sights that he had never taken the time before.
"What's that window up there? And who's that man looking out?" Adam asks curiously.
"Oh, that's the great and powerful Wizard Of Oz." Tim smirks without even looking up.
"I'm serious." Adam laughs, bumping Tim with his shoulder.
"That my dear, is our beloved warden, George Clooney." Tim says as he quickly glances up at the large window, meeting Clooney's glare. "The biggest son of a b*tch that you'll ever meet."
"I sense that you two don't like each other very well." Adam says.
"Not at all." Tim replies.
"I feel like he's staring at us." Adam says, feeling paranoid.
"Oh, I'm sure he is. You're the new kid on the block. He's checking you out." Tim answers. "He promises prisoners anything they want to hear just to get them in bed. Once he screws them, they're back in the cell not hearing anything else about the promises he made."
"Did he ever come on to you?" Adam asks.
"Hell no. We've hated each other from day one. He did come on to Avi once. He actually grabbed Avi in the crotch." Tim chuckles.
"Oh, my God. What happened?" Adam asks.
"Avi politely told him that if he ever touches him again that he would cut his nuts off and make him eat them." Tim laughs.
( meanwhile in the Warden's office )
"Chance? Who's the new guy talking to Foust?" Clooney asks.
Chance walks up to the window and looks down at the Cellblock.
"That's Adam Rupp. He arrived about a week ago." Chance answers.
"What's he doing hanging with Foust?" Clooney asks, showing disgust at the name Foust.
"They happen to be cell mates." Chance replies.
"Well, I want him moved to another cell. A single cell." Clooney snarls. "Away from Foust.
"Nope, No can do." Chance answers walking away from the window. "There's no other cells available."
"Then put him in with Kaplan." Clooney says.
"Av ... Kaplan has a single cell. Putting Rupp in with Foust was the best choice cause no one will think about bothering him with Foust around.
"I don't think you're listening, Chance. I said move him." Clooney says, putting his hands on his hips.
"Oh, I heard you but the answer is still, No." Chance replies, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Just who is the warden here?" Clooney asks in a stern voice.
"You are." Chance nods. "But I am the one who places prisoners in which cell they are to have. And Rupp stays right where he is at. With Foust."
"I can fire you, you know." Clooney snarls.
"No, you can't. I was hired by the Governor, not you." Chance says with a smirk. "I'm the one in charge of the prisoners and their well-being, not you."
"Well, you go on about your business, Mr. Chance." The Warden says with a smirk. "Looks like I'll have to talk to Rupp, myself. I'm sure after he learns Mr. Foust's secrets, he'll be begging for a different cell."
