Chapter Fifty One ~ What the Future Holds

Lucy had been sitting at the table having lunch with Natsu's mother when she got the phone call from Gray. It was quick and simple.

"Hello?" She had answered panicking because she knew this was his time at the hospital.

"Luce, get down here quick." Gray had said very little, but honestly, what else needed to be said in that moment? She stood up as quickly as she could and made her way to the bedroom to throw some shoes on her feet.

She felt the urgent need to rush to the hospital. Is everything okay? Is he waking up? Please Let him be okay! Were the only thoughts that was running through her head at the moment.

Mrs. Dragneel looked at her confused, "Lucy, child, where are you going in such a rush?" She asked the blonde haired girl who seemed to be having a little bit of a struggle getting around.

Lucy stopped and looked up at her future mother in law. "That was Gray," Lucy said trying to bend over to tie her shoe. She wasn't succeeding. Mrs. Dragneel giggled sweetly as she walked over and sat at Lucy's feet tying her shoes for her.

"Child, I know it's important, but you have to slow down. Natsu would absolutely go crazy if he knew you were doing things that could possibly hurt you and my sweet granddaughter." She said as she smiled standing back up and taking Lucy's hand. "Come on now honey. Let's get to the hospital and see what is going on."

Lucy thought about what she had said. She had dreamed every night since the accident of what things would be like if he had gotten to find out about her pregnancy. She could easily picture him guarding her like a vicious pitbull, stopping everyone who tried to get close, or even talk to her. She giggled at the thought of him running around like a mad man clearing everyone out of her path as if someone's touch would make her explode. He would be a great father, she thought to herself, no he will be a great father Lucy. Never give up hope. He is going to wake up.

Mrs. Dragneel and Lucy climbed in the car and headed to the hospital. Lucy anxiously rubbed her belly feeling the kicks of her baby girl the entire way. She was always the most active when they were in the car. I wonder if she will have motion sickness like her daddy? Lucy thought looking down at her stomach, I wonder if she'll have his eyes, what about his goofy smile? No matter what she's definitely going to have his feistiness! She thought as a pain shot through her as she felt her precious little bundle kick her ribs.  Lucy looked over at Mrs. Dragneel and spoke, "You don't think Gray called us because something bad has happened, do you?" She asked with he eyes full of worry.

Mrs. Dragneel looked at Lucy with a sad smile showing the little bit of hope that she still carried for her son, "I am sure Natsu is going to be fine. He has a spirit about him that cannot easily be stomped out. He has always been a fighter since the day he was born."

Lucy starred at the woman and noticed for the first time how much Natsu actually resembled her. Her hair was lighter in color, but it still held that beautiful pink tint that Natsu's held. Natsu had his father's eyes, but they held the same spirit and passion that his mothers held. He had her gentle smile too. "What do you mean since he was born?" Lucy asked quietly.

Mrs. Dragneel kept her eyes on the road as she drove, "Well, when Natsu was born the doctor's were concerned because his body temperature didn't want to stay up where it was supposed to be at. He spent the first week of his life under a heating lamp in a NICU. It was a very scary time for his father and I. There were moments we thought he wasn't going to come home with us, but even at that young of an age he fought. And he grew stronger every day. We were so over protective of him at first because of our fear from what happened when he was born, but he became more full of life than anything we ever could have imagined. He reminded us of how we were during our summers together as children. Which is actually how he got his name. We learned very quickly to not stress the little things that happen, which with him happened alot, because when you constantly dote over every little thing your whole world will crumble when something major happens."

Lucy thought back to all the times Natsu had gotten hurt when they were kids and how his parents would simply smile and brush it off, throw on a bandaid and send him back out. Then she thought about how calm and composed they had been since the accident. You could see their fear and their pain, but more then anything you could see their hope. That was what had given her the courage to stay strong all this time. The hope that everyone, his parents, Gray, and all their friends, had held all this time had helped her to become stronger for him everyday too.

Lucy stayed silent starring out the window thinking about everything until they arrived at the hospital. Mrs. Dragneel parked the car and then the two of them got out the car and headed inside. When they made it to the floor that Natsu was on they noticed a lot of commotion coming from the direction of his room. This instantly sent a chill down Lucy's spine causing her to panic as she started to run towards his room. Gray was standing at the door and he caught her before she went in. "Gray?" She looked at him with worry in her eyes, trying to stop tears that were starting to form.

Gray looked at her for a moment as a slow smile swept across his face. "Luce, he's awake."
