Chappy 53

"Huh? You're back again?"

(Y/n) and Katsuki exchanged looks before the girl shrugged at the old woman, who cast a skeptical eye at them from her seat in her office. The two had agreed on paying the nurse a visit, in hopes that she'd have an idea of what was happening to (Y/n).

"I uh...have a slight problem," the girl confessed as she scratched the back of her neck.

"Yes, I figured that out when you were here this morning," Recovery Girl said as she got off her seat and walked over to them. "I also see that your eyes are red again. Is this boy the whole reason you're crying?"

Katsuki scoffed and shoved his hands in his pockets while scowling at Recovery Girl. (Y/n) briefly glanced at him and shook her head, a small fake smile etched on her lips.

"No, he's not," she said. "He’s here to keep me company. Anyway, about why we're here..."

"Yes, what about it?"

The female began playing with her fingers as she figured on how to capture her words. "It's uh...something about my uh...Quirk. It's gone kinda of...rogue?"

Recovery Girl gave her a blank look, not understanding what she meant by that.

"How does a Quirk go rogue?" the old woman questioned her dubiously. "As far as I know, you have good control over your Quirk."

(Y/n) sighed and lifted a shoulder. "Well, that's the thing. I don't have control over it anymore. And also...it's not as it was before..."

Recovery Girl stared at her, an unreadable expression on her aged features. (Y/n) could feel herself get self-conscious by the passing second the woman continued staring at her.

She probably thinks I'm a delusional teen going through a nervous breakdown and imagining my own things...

"Show me."

"Huh?"

"Show me how exactly your Quirk is going rogue," the woman repeated, leaning her weight on her syringe-shaped staff as she peered at the girl in wait.

"Uh..." the girl looked at Katsuki, who simply rose his eyebrow to signal her to activate her Quirk. She turned back to Recovery Girl and winced sheepishly. "I really don't know how to start it."

Recovery Girl tilted her head slightly at the girl in disbelief. "You don't know how to start your Quirk?"

She shook her head. "No. No, it's not that. I just don't know how to start it."

The grey-haired woman noted her emphasis on the word 'it' and straightened up a bit in interest. (Y/n) noticed this and sighed. Seeing is believing and even though she didn't know how to activate the mysterious black color, she had to try.

"Ok um..." she began as she took a couple of steps away from the two, "just...just watch."

The female then splayed her arms in front of her and took in a deep breath. She stared at her arms willfully as she began activating her Quirk. She bit her lip in concentration, finding it harder to activate it than it normally was before her death. First of all, she was exhausted and that didn't make it any easier too.

A bead of sweat formed on her brow as she struggled to activate it but to no avail. All she had managed to do was to make herself somewhat dizzy.

(Y/n) sighed in defeat and placed her hand on her forehead, her eyes closed as she tried to overcome her dizziness.

"Hey."

The girl opened her eyes to look at the hand that was placed on her shoulder and looked up at its owner who gazed at her intently. She placed her hand down and inhaled sharply, her heavy eyes giving him the impression that she just wanted sleep.

"Don't fucking pressure yourself," Katsuki said in a low voice, withdrawing his hand from her shoulder and returning it into his pocket.

"But....it's so hard and..." (Y/n) sighed, her (e/c) eyes looking at a place somewhere above his shoulder before falling back on him. "I'm just so tired..."

"Look," he began. "What were you thinking of when it started back in class?"

(Y/n) pursed her lips as she recalled her thoughts in class and her heart lurched when she remembered.

"I was angry. Angry about the breakup," she admitted with a sigh. "I guess I just blew up."

"Then get angry again."

(Y/n) knitted her eyebrows at him and shook her head. "It's not that easy."

Katsuki clicked his tongue and deepened his frown. "No one said it was gonna be fucking easy. Now are you doing it or what?"

The girl attempted to glare at him but failed, giving him only a tired expression. "Okay, fine. I'll try again."

The ash-blonde, with a small satisfied smirk, took some steps back away from her. (Y/n) exhaled and put out her arms in front of her once more as she began to focus.

Okay (Y/n), just get angry. Just think about the breakup. Think about...how angry you should be...Think about what could've been if things were different. If...I…if I had done different things...What was I thinking...it's my fault we broke up, right? I'm the one who screwed things over. I'm the one who always fucks up things. I'm the one who fucked up something special. Fuck, I can't believe I was so angry...maybe I should text him. Tell him I'm sorry. Tell him I miss him a lot. Tell him that I still love him. I miss him so much.

A drop of wet liquid rolling down her cheek alerted her from her thoughts, bringing her back to reality to realize she was crying. Her hand quickly went up to wipe the tear but stopped short when her glossy eyes fell on her now darkened hand. But since she didn't have enough energy left, the black color disappeared as soon as it came.

Recovery Girl hummed in speculation at the peculiar sight, not recalling having seen her do that even at the sports festival. She scratched her chin in thought and walked back to her desk to locate some files.

(Y/n) breathed out in relief for having activated it, even though tears continued cascading down her cheeks. She sniffled and turned around, facing her back towards Katsuki who was staring at her with an unknown expression. She felt pathetic having him see her cry for the third time in a single day.

The girl didn't want to feel weak or sad in front of him. She wanted to hold her head high, even if her heart felt like it was broken beyond repair. (Y/n) wiped the tears away with her hands, sniffling as she tried to regain her composure.

All the crying was starting to cause her a headache, furthered even more by her exhaustion.

She drew in a shaky breath, wiping away the remaining tears before fanning her face with her hands.

"Here," the old woman said while approaching the two, an open file in her hands as she skimmed through it.

(Y/n) took in another breath while running her hands down her face before whirling around to face them. She kept her eyes away from Katsuki and glued on Recovery Girl, mentally hoping that she could get this over and done with.

"I've never heard of such a thing but," the woman said, her eyes still reading through the page. "It appears that your Quirk has been modified. I still don't know how that is possible but seeing that it happened to you, it could be.

"So like-ahem," the girl rasped hoarsely and cut herself short to clear her voice then continued. "So like, my Quirk has additional characteristics?"

Recovery Girl closed her file and nodded at (Y/n). "Yes. Thing is, how did you get those additional characteristics in the first place? You are way past the age of four and changes like this are unheard of. So, the question is, how did and when did this occur?"

The girl's breath hitched, her lips parting at the question.

I knew this would happen.

She hurriedly put on a clueless mask on her face and shrugged. "I also don't know how it happened. All I know is that it happened after the rescue mission. After I woke up from my unconscious state, I just noticed it started to happen."

The grey-haired woman looked at her for a while, trying to weigh her answer. She then hummed and nodded before muttering under her breath. "Must have triggered the untapped parts of your power...interesting."

(Y/n) looked at Katsuki and he looked at her.

"How about this," the woman added, gaining back the teenagers' attention. "Leave me to think about this for a while and I'll get back to you later. How is that?"

The female nodded and shot her a light smile. "That'll be okay. Thanks."

Recovery Girl returned the smile. "Sure dear."

(Y/n) felt like part of her load was lifted off her mind. Another though, was waiting back in class.

"And before you go," the woman added, digging into the pocket of her lab coat to retrieve a small pill bottle which she gave to the girl. "Take those after you get home from school. They might not help with the heartache but at least they'll make you sleep to forget for a while."

(Y/n) took the bottle and inspected it. It was just the ordinary sleeping pills and she was tempted to down some immediately. She looked back at the woman and smiled at her knowing and caring nature.

"Thank you."

"No worries. Taking care of people is my job. Now, get to class you two," the old woman said, gesturing to the door with her staff.

(Y/n) pocketed the bottle and turned to walk to the door, Katsuki walking right beside her. As soon as they exited the room, the girl stopped, making Katsuki stop and look at her over his shoulder.

"What is-"

"I really don't want to go back there," (Y/n) interjected, her tired eyes peering at him in objection.

Katsuki furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you saying you want to fucking skip class?"

"Honestly, I just want to skip everything..." she trailed off, her downcast eyes falling to the ground. "Everything to where my heart won't hurt so much...I just don't know if I can do this. I'm sorry I'm not strong. I'm sorry I can't stay a single hour without looking like a fucking neurotic crybaby mess..." her voice cracked at the end, a sniffle escaping her as tears clouded her eyes. "I'm sorry I just-it hurts a lot...and-and..."

The ash-blond gently grabbed her arms in order to help her stand straight as he looked at her with concern-filled eyes. "You don't have to fucking apologize for shit."

"But I can't-" she choked back a sob and wiped away a tear with her finger. "I just feel so unstable right now. One minute I'm angry, the next...I feel like such-such a fucking bad person. I can't keep up with all these-these emotions inside of me...I just want t-to forget it all-it all happened. But I can't. I-I..I can't Katsuki. It's-It's like it's always in my mind. Re-Re-Reminding of me of that…I'm trying so hard to not cry but I just-I just can't-"

The boy sighed and engulfed the sobbing girl into his strong arms, her cries intensifying as she wet his shirt with her tears for the second time, something he didn't mind. He laid his chin on her head and began stroking her hair affectionately.

"Don't fucking apologize for being fucking hurt. It's normal, you got that?"

(Y/n) nodded, her face still buried in his shirt as her cries gradually reduced to sobs and hiccups. Katsuki glared at the far off distance behind her, his whole existence burning with the urge to put a dent in Shouto's face for hurting (Y/n). But thinking selfishly, the pain was a necessary evil she had to endure if she was ever going to end up with Katsuki in the short run. And he'll be there to make the pain go away.

"Come on," he began. "Let me take you home."

The girl nodded again and pulled away from his hug as she wiped away her tears. "What about my bag? And the teacher?"

"I'll come back for them and tell him you're fucking sick. Now let's go," he said, his body slightly turning as he held out his hand for her to take.

(Y/n) sent him a strained smile and took his hand as they began heading to the exit.

(Y/n) lay in bed, staring off into space as she waited for the sleeping pills she had swallowed to kick in. Katsuki lay beside her, his eyes looking around the room as he waited for her to fall asleep as per her request. They laid there in silence, each in their own thoughts.

The (h/c)-haired female was still plagued with never-ending thoughts about Shouto as she so desperately tried to push them to the back of her mind and get her coveted rest.

For Katsuki, it was the first time in her room and to be honest, he would've been much more excited if it were in other circumstances. But nevertheless, he preferred to be with her and keep her company until she slept rather than be anywhere else. She was his responsibility and taking care of her came first, even if it meant doing things he never imagined doing in his life.

He turned his head to look at the girl and noticed that her eyes had started drooping close. He continued watching her until she completely fell asleep.

Katsuki sighed and sat up from the bed, throwing his legs over the edge and standing up. He crossed over to the other side where (Y/n) lay and pulled the duvet up to cover her up to the neck.

After, he straightened up and began staring at her sleeping face. She looked so peaceful in contrast to the troubled expression she wore ever since morning. She was a bit pale, yes, but at least she was getting some sleep.

Katsuki gently stroked her hair, tilting his head a bit to the side as he continued watching her. She was strong, even though she said she wasn't. He knew that she was going to pull through. It was only a matter of time until then.

The corner of the boy's lips rose slightly and he leaned down to her level, one hand placed beside her head to hold himself above her. Cautiously, he placed a light kiss on her forehead. He let his lips linger on her soft skin before pulling away to roam his eyes all over her peaceful face.

He then slowly ran his knuckles down the side of her face, his head tilting to the opposite side as a light smirk played on his lips.

Oh, Todoroki…you dumb fuck.
