Chappy 24

Two days since the first day of internship had passed and along with it came the raging stories about the infamous hero-killer, Stain, who had attacked three U.A. students and one pro-hero in Hosu city. Together with that was, chaos was also brought by three Noumus, similar to the one at USJ, who attacked the city and thought to be acting along with Stain under the League of Villains.

The news was that the number two hero, Endeavor, defeated them and brought peace back to Hosu.

And news of Shouto almost getting killed did not sit well with (Y/n).

"What the fuck were you thinking?!!" (Y/n) hissed into the phone meanwhile trying keeping her voice low as she was still in the agency office.

Shouto sighed at the first words she greeted him with and smiled. "I'm doing fine, thanks for asking."

(Y/n) frowned at his words. "If you wanted to be killed, then I would've done it myself ages ago! What are you?! Insane?!! I swear if you do something like that again I'm gonna put you in the fucking ICU myself, you hear me?!! Do you know how worried I was?!!"

"I know you were worried but just calm down and listen to me. It-"

"No! I will not calm down!" the enraged girl cut him off, running her hand through her hair in frustration as she paced back and forth. "You scared me!! What if you could have died, huh?! How do you think I would have felt?!! Did you stop to consider that for a second?!"

"Look I'm sorry, okay. Midoriya and Iida were in trouble, I had to do something," Shouto explained, his voice calm and composed in the opposite of his girlfriend's.

"You-!!" (Y/n) let out a strangled sound as she tried to prevent herself from screaming profanities. She then let out a defeated groan of frustration and pinched the bridge of her nose. She drew in a sharp breath and exhaled, feeling her anger ebb away a bit.

"Are you calm?" Shouto asked after a moment of silence.

"Yeah, yeah I'm good," she confirmed as she brushed away the stray locks that had fallen on her face. She sighed and leaned on the adjacent wall. "Don't ever scare me like that, okay?"

"I promise, but I don't promise that if it comes to helping people."

"I know but...I wouldn't want anything bad happening to you."

"Nothing bad will happen to me. I'll be okay."

(Y/n) squinted, mocking Shouto's ridiculous face. "Nothing bad will happen to me. I'll be okay ha ha ha hahahahaha!" her expression then suddenly turned serious. "You'll never know about that if you keep running into fights that you aren't fucking authorized to yet."

Shouto sighed heavily. Unapologetic, she leaned her head back on the wall and began inspecting her nails. "Anyway, how's Izuku and Iida?"

"They're doing fine. Iida's in surgery right now and Midoriya went to make a call outside."

(Y/n) hummed in response. A movement at the corner of her eye made her turn to look at the approaching man.

"That's good. Hey, Sir is already here and I have to go. Get well, okay. No more stupid antics or Imma beat your ass," she concluded as she pushed herself from the wall.

"I promise," he chuckled in a joking manner much akin to (Y/n)'s earlier words at the station.

"Ha ha, very cheeky. Bye, love you,"

"Love you," he finished and hanged up. (Y/n) pulled the phone from her ear and stuffed in the pocket of her holster bag.

"Ready?" Sir asked, making the girl look up at him.

"Yeah," she smiled as they began walking towards the exit.

"Boyfriend, I presume?" he inquired, paying a side glance at the girl. "I overheard a bit."

"Yeah, he is. He was one of the victims of the Hosu incident," she explained, a small frown making its way to her lips.

"What is his name?"

(Y/n) looked up at him. "Shouto. Shouto Todoroki."

Sir Nighteye rubbed his chin knowingly. "Ah, Endeavor's son, right?"

"Ya."

Sir placed a hand on her shoulder and firmly patted it. "Well then, I wish you both well."

(Y/n) smiled. "Thanks, sir."

Sir let his hand drop from his shoulder but then he suddenly knitted his eyebrows as a look of concern clouded his face. He glanced at (Y/n), who still had a smile on her face.

"Volcaness," he began, earning the girl's attention. "You said his name is Shouto?"

The girl furrowed her eyebrows and nodded. "Yeah, why? Do you know him personally?"

Sir hummed to himself as if deliberating to reveal something to her or not. Instead, he brushed it off with a sigh. "I remember him when he was very young. Nothing important."

The girl let out a relieved laugh and scratched the back of her neck. "Oh, I thought you like, saw my future or something."

"I did."

"Huh?" the girl's eyes widened in shock and anxiety.

"But I won't tell you," he added, a smirk gracing his lips at her conflicted expression. "But a hint, the future is much closer to you than you could ever imagine."

The girl arched a puzzled eyebrow at him as she tried to decipher the meaning of his words.

Much closer...than I could ever...the fuck does that mean? (Y/n) chewed the inside of her cheek, her face contorting in deep thought.

Sir sighed and patted her head, bringing her out of her reverie. "Don't hurt yourself trying to understand its meaning. It will become very clear soon so no need to worry."

(Y/n) hesitantly nodded. "Uh...okay," she winced. "But, it's not bad, right? The future?"

Sir chuckled silently and shook his head. "No. It's actually far from bad. A bit...flashy, if I should say."

The girl sighed in relief, a sudden excitement overcoming her in anticipation of the future.

"Well! Can't wait to meet my future then!" she gushed, pumping her fist in the air as she followed Sir through the open door.

Sir chuckled knowingly and closed the agency door behind him as his eyes remained glued to the excited girl.

"Remember everything I taught you about patrol?" Sir asked the girl walking beside him.

"Yes. It's to ensure the public that they are safe and also prevents villainous attacks around the city," the girl answered, a satisfied and smug smile gracing her lips at her efficient answer.

"Good," Sir complimented, paying the girl a brief proud glance. "And what does one do if they encounter a villain attack while on patrol?"

"One should always keep calm to ensure quick thinking. Push back the crowd so that there'd be no collateral damage and deal with the villain or villains in the most legal yet efficient way."

"And if the villain is too strong?"

"Remain calm as possible and wait until help arrives while still holding off the villain as much as possible without getting hurt. Do not panic, otherwise, the civilians will also panic," she answered while lifting her hand to wave back at some of Sir's fans.

"And never?

"Turn your back or hesitate," she finished, her smile widening.

"That is very good. I can see you're a really good student. I was right about you," Sir complimented her, satisfied that they had made a lot of progress over the last two days.

(Y/n) sighed and clasped her hands behind her back. "Thank you, sir."

"No need to thank me, that was all you and you deserve the praise."

The girl nodded and stopped herself from saying thank you again, settling for only smiling at him.

Her mind then went back to an earlier conversation they had before at the training room.

She turned her gaze back to the busy street and bit her lower lip. "Sir, are we still heading there?"

"Of course," the male confirmed, looking at her slightly bothered face and sighed. "I told you I would, so I am."

She nodded, her previous hope and excitement sparking back within her as joy bubbled in her heart.

2 hours earlier***

(Y/n) had taken a break from training with Sir, said male having exited from the training room to settle some issues in his office.

The injuries she had sustained on the first day were almost close to invisible and as they continued training, she acquired lesser and minor injuries. She could tell she was getting better at acting quickly but as Sir repeatedly said, she wasn't quite there yet.

The girl sat cross-legged on the carpeted floor as she mindlessly inspected her nails. She frowned at the chipped (color) nail polish. She made a mental note to redo them once she was back at the motel.

The swinging open of the door alerted her as she looked up to look at the Sir who had made his return.

"Sorry about that. Urgent matters," he apologized as he shrugged off his coat and hung it up on the rack.

She instantly got up on her feet. "It's okay."

"Ready for round two?" he asked, a smirk on his lips as he walked nearer the girl.

"Ready as I'll ever be," she muttered under her breath as she took in a deep breath.

Sir looked at her curiously, narrowing his eyes at her. "There's something on your mind that is bothering you. Care to share?"

(Y/n) froze on her spot, confusion written on her face. "Uhh...why do you say that?"

"You look bothered, even though you tried to hide it."

The female swallowed and scratched her head. In truth, she was thinking about how leaving the file at the office was a major setback in finding her parents but that had been a common thought to her for the last three days. She was still bothered, yes, but she didn't think it'd show.

She looked back at him, sensing that he wasn't going to budge until she spilled. "I uh...was just thinking about something in my past."

"(Y/n), I'm sure you understand that a full mind does not work well whenever in combat and one must be of clear mind and sight," Sir explained, crossing his arms over his chest as his serious eyes bore into the girl's own. "I'm not doing this in the intention of prying but well-meaning, if I'm going to be your teacher then I should be in knowledge of what is bothering my student. I do hope you understand, right?"

(Y/n) hung her head and nodded in understanding. She sighed and sat back down on the floor, crossing her legs. She began picking on the dirt under her nail as she took in a deep breath to confess to her teacher.

"I uh...was just thinking about my parents. They gave me up and now I'm looking for them. Well, I was supposed to but the information I have on them at the moment is little to no use. I did have more on them but I lost the file so...that and my busy schedule really doesn't help with anything."

Sir nodded. "You're looking for your parents. Why is that?"

(Y/n)'s eyes widened in disbelief at the question and stared at him like he was crazy. "Because I want to know them. They're my parents. Why wouldn't I want to find them?"

Sir stared at her in silence as his mind worked out her answer. He then hummed to himself in realization. "What are your parents' name?"

"(Name) and (name)"

"I see, no wonder you looked familiar. I didn't know they had a child. I didn't think they could even manage one in those conditions," he mumbled to himself in deep thought, completely forgetting about the girl who was staring at him dubiously.

"Uh...sir?"

"Aha!" he exclaimed while snapping his fingers and turned to the girl. "I do happen to know them."

The girl arched a doubting eyebrow at him and frowned. "You do?"

"Yes. Some time ago though but I haven't heard from them in quite some time now," he added.

(Y/n)'s doubtful expression morphed into one of surprise but was wiped off into a stoic one. "Yeah, they like 'disappeared' or something."

The male nodded and crouched down to be level in front of her. "They were brilliant scientists, working under a large laboratory that dealt with discovering weaknesses and strong points of Quirks. I worked with them at some point in my life when All Might and I asked for their help to take down a dangerous villain. We remained friends after that. But then, there was a time they had trouble with the government. Apparently, their laboratory had started making illegal drugs to enhance Quirks and make them void of weaknesses. They were shut down eventually. After a while, it came to light that your parents were the ones who reported the matter, having no interest in getting themselves in those dealings. That resulted in their lives being in danger and that forced them to go into hiding never to be heard off again. Rumors have it that they are still working on their experiments but undercover. No one knows the truth anyway."

(Y/n) peered at him in shock. Such information was not mentioned in the files. In fact, all they said was that they resigned from their job and moved to (town) to work under Hajime Industries.

What the fuck was going on?!

"But, they left a file and nothing like that is in there," she shook her head as she looked at him unconvinced.

Sir's forehead puckered. "What file?"

"A file filled with information on them. Their personal and professional information. Nothing in there says anything about them reporting their lab or going into hiding."

"Tell me something, my dear, do you think that they would put something like that in there to worry you or be put under suspicion that they dealt with illegal things. One, you would have minimum chances of being accepted by the orphanage and also, they didn't want you to think that they were crooks."

The girl pursed her lips at the truth behind his words and nodded stiffly.

"And also, have you ever thought that maybe they didn't leave the file for you to find them but for something else?" he asked her.

"Eh?" the girl rose a confused eyebrow.

"Think about it, they formed enemies after snitching the lab, put you in an orphanage, left a file behind and went into hiding. If they did want you to find them, then they would've left clues behind in the file but they covered up the truth instead. The truth about them is the real reason why the lab closed down is not well known so it wouldn't have been easy for you to find out the truth and you wouldn't have gotten anywhere. Now tell me, if they really did want you to find them, wouldn't they have made it easier for you?"

"I still don't get it. If they didn't want me to find them, then why leave it behind in the first place?" (Y/n) asked, still not grasping onto what he was getting at.

Sir sighed and tilted his head. "Maybe because, they want you to know that, as far as they are, they're still there for you. And they also want you to have even the slightest information about them, to know that they exist. It could be a promise."

"A...promise? Sorry, I'm confused."

"They don't want you to find them because if you do, their enemies will get wind of it and they will target you in their place so they left you the file as a promise that no matter how long, they will come back for you. Life's not always black and white, there is also gray. One must not only look at things as they appear but dig deeper because sometimes, they're things hidden within."

(Y/n)'s eyes widened at his words, her mouth agape as the wheels turned in her mind. "Okay hold up. Hold up. I almost got it. So, they don't want me to find them and they left a file like some kind of promise that they are coming back for me?"

Sir nodded and smiled, finally relieved that she understood the bigger picture.

(Y/n), however, had never been so confused and understanding at the same time in her life. At one point, she understood but at another, she felt like she was solving the world's hardest mystery and that her head would explode. She knitted her eyebrows and scratched her head as she looked at Sir.

"Wouldn't it been much clearer if they left like a note behind?"

"Maybe they thought their daughter would inherit their genius minds and figure it out beforehand."

(Y/n) let out an unamused laugh at his at his indirect poke at her intelligence.

"Are they usually that confusing?" she asked him, a small smile on her lips at her parents' unique characters.

Sir mimicked her smile, nostalgia clouding his face as he focused on the wall behind the girl. "Yes. Sometimes they even managed to confuse me with their way of thinking, as brilliant as I am. But the brilliant of mind are not always understood. They have their own way of thinking."

(Y/n) nodded in agreement. "True."

"How about I take you to where they worked, to serve as some closure for now," he offered, straightening up as he offered his hand for (Y/n) to take.

"Really?" she asked, her smile widening as she took his hand and got up to her feet.

"Yes. One more round of combat and during patrol, we can pass by there. Is that okay?"

"Yeah sure. Totally!"

***

"We're here," Sir announced as they stopped in front of a large barricaded building, complete with a wire fence around it.

(Y/n) walked towards the fence and placed her hands on the rusted metal as she looked around the compound, the many years of neglect visible from the overgrown grass. The building, which was once painted white, looked deserted, straight out of a horror movie. The paint had chipped, cracked and washed out. The windows were broken and she could see various items scattered around the compound. The large double doors were plastered with a torn yellow police sign, preventing anyone from entering. The girl's fingers slotted into the gaps in the fence as she took in the unsettling sight. She looked up at the fence and saw a yellow 'Keep Out' sign on it, right next to the 'Biohazard' and 'Caution Radioactive Material' signs. The whole thing looked eerie and it made her want to back away. No wonder it was in a secluded part of the town.

So this is where they worked. She didn't know how to describe how she felt. She felt sad, happy, curious and doubtful at the same time.

"Where do you think they could be right now?" she wondered aloud, her voice barely above a whisper but which Sir caught.

"All that will be answered soon enough, my dear. Besides, good things always come to those who wait patiently," Sir sighed, standing behind the girl.

(Y/n) smiled at his words. Ever since they had that talk back at the agency, her eyes had been opened. She felt like a huge load was taken off her shoulders and hope shone even brighter than it ever did before. She felt peaceful, calmer. If Sir was right, then, they were coming back for her, so all she had to do was just wait.

The girl swiveled around and engulfed the man in a hug. Sir stiffened at the affectionate action, his eyes widening in surprise. He looked around the area to see if anyone was looking and saw none. He loosened up as he offered the girl a warm smile and patted her on the head as fondness for her bubbled in his heart.

"Thank you," she whispered, snuggling her face in his coat as tears of joy and gratefulness brimmed in her (e/c) eyes.

Sir sighed and looked up at the run-down lab, memories of his days of working with her parents resurfacing in his mind.

At least, you can now be free of your bonds, (Y/n). Only one more thing left to go now.

"You're welcome."
