Chappy 20
The last day to the weekend passed by without much ado and before they knew it, Saturday came strolling by. (Y/n) and Katsuki had arranged to make a visit to her old orphanage to garner more information if they could get it that is.
"Okay, ladies and gentlemen!" the girl dramatically announced as she gesticulated to an old-looking building. "To the right, we see an old but sturdy home called The Little Sisters of Laverna Orphanage a.k.a LSLO a.k.a I really wish we didn't have to come here but we had no choice."
Katsuki rolled his eyes, impatiently grabbed her forearm and pulled her towards the large, carved, wooden double doors. As he was about to pull them open, they opened before he did. Katsuki let go of her arm and shoved them in his pockets, his usual scowl on the emerging person.
An old nun, wearing the black and white formal attire walked towards them. She was tall, an immediate intimidation to any other person that she towered over. She stood as straight as her pole, her posture unmoved by her age as she held her hands behind her back. Her small beady eyes fell on the boy before going to the girl and her frown deepened.
"It's been a while since I last saw your eyesore of a face here," she said, tone stern and sounding as bored as ever.
(Y/n) ignored the verbal jab and faked a grin as she spread her arms wide. "Mother Superior. You look mighty superior, as always."
The woman hummed in disapproval and sized up the girl. "It's 'hello, Mother Superior' not that disrespect you young people spout these days."
(Y/n)'s eye twitched in irritation but covered it up with a forced laugh. "Savage, as usual, M.S! No one does it quite like you do."
The woman made no comment and turned her attention to Katsuki. She sized him up. Everything about him looked rude. "And who is this ruffian you came with today?"
Katsuki's scowl deepened, his crimson-colored eyes glaring at the nun. (Y/n) cleared her throat and paid the boy a side glance. "This is Katsuki. Don't pay any attention to him though, he's not much of a talker."
Mother Superior sent him one last disapproving look before turning back to (Y/n). "We'll see about that. So, you called my office and insisted on speaking to me. I would advise to not use that tone again with my younger superior again or else I'd be forced to...not offer my help."
Ha! As if I'll ever call again! The girl winked at the woman in mock obedience. "Got it."
The sister sighed in exhaustion and turned to walk back into the orphanage, the duo following behind with Katsuki closing the door behind them.
"We will proceed with this discussion in my office where I will decide whether to help or not. Be notified early that I could still clearly remember what a trouble child you were, (Y/n)."
The female scoffed silently and rolled her eyes, her glare falling on the woman's back.
"And those disrespectful eyes of yours. You never quite changed, did you?"
(Y/n)'s eyes widened in surprise at her words. She quickly wiped off the surprise and narrowed her eyes at the black on the woman's head. Does she like, have another eye in that veil or something?
She sighed and paid a brief side glance at Katsuki. The ash-blond was busy surveying the surrounding of the orphanage. Inside, it looked similar to a mix of a school and a nunnery.
The walls of the large halls were plastered with paintings of Saints, Jesus and his disciples and the 14 stations of Jesus' crucifixion. Soft worship music played in the background, accentuated by the silence that shrouded the whole orphanage, that is, not counting their footsteps which reverberated through the hallway. The hallways were in pristine condition, as always and one could almost see their reflection on the floor. Nuns could be seen walking to and fro the hallways, with small children following them, each looking spic and span in their similar navy blue and white uniforms.
(Y/n) crinkled her nose in disgust. She hated the uniforms. The nuns always gave her dresses that wore her instead of the other way around and they always reached her ankles. She came to understand that they always did that to keep her movements to a minimum, not that it did anything to stop her anyway.
She just hoped that she wouldn't meet with any sister that knew her. Especially her dorm mistress. God, she inwardly shuddered, I hated that woman.
Luckily for her, they arrived at her office before they had a chance to have any unfortunate run-ins. The old woman opened the door and walked in, the two in tow. She went around her desk and sat on her Victorian style chair, entwining her fingers before her on the table.
(Y/n) was the first to sit on the chair in front of her desk. The nun frowned at her and gave her a pointed look.
(Y/n) scowled and immediately stood up, Katsuki watching her in confusion. He stood beside the girl, his eyes darting back and forth between the two.
"You may take a seat," the woman ordered in nonchalance, her beady eyes still on the scowling girl. (Y/n) sighed and plopped back down on the chair, crossing her arms over her chest in irritation. Katsuki did the same, taking the seat across from her.
"One must always wait until they're given the word, then, they may seat."
(Y/n) pressed her lips into a thin line and stiffly nodded, impatient to get things running so she could get out of there.
The nun hummed in disapproval before she spoke. "So what is it you came here for?"
(Y/n) uncrossed her arms and sat up straight in her chair, her expression turning into a serious one.
"Okay, so I-"
"Tell me, child, have you ever tried to tame that unruly, wild hair of yours?" Mother Superior asked, completely ignoring (Y/n) and her attention long ago re-directed towards Katsuki.
Katsuki's forehead creased even further as he glowered at the nun. (Y/n) frowned at the total snub and she crossed her arms over her chest in petulance. She turned to look at Katsuki, then to the woman, who was completely unmoved by Katsuki's death glare.
"And did your mother ever teach you respect?" the woman badgered on, her voice sharp and stern as she stared at Katsuki as if he was some kind of delinquent. "You should not glare at people older than you. Have you no manners?"
The crimson-colored eyed male was beyond himself with rage as his hands balled up into fists while his whole form shook in anger. Yet, through this all, he kept silent. (Y/n) bit the inside of her cheek as she looked at Katsuki. She could practically feel his patience running thin.
"Mother Superior, there's no need to-" she began, trying to get her attention away from him but was cut off.
"No, no. I need to know what kind of..." she paused as she narrowed at the male in criticism. "People you surround yourself with."
The male gritted his teeth as he restrained himself from blasting the woman to smithereens.
(Y/n) sighed and chewed on her bottom lip. She shoved her hands in between her thighs and crossed her fingers, her eyes still on Katsuki.
I knew this would happen...
1 hour earlier***
"You sure you wanna do this? I mean, it's going to be really difficult," (Y/n) asked as she looked at her counterpart unsurely. At the moment, they were standing outside of (Y/n)'s house.
"Is your brain screwed on backward? When I told you I was going to help, I meant it. And I'm going there with you whether you like it or not!" Katsuki snapped at the girl, his red eyes glaring daggers at her.
(Y/n) sighed in defeat. "Fine, fine. But I did warn you though. Anyway, when we go there, just know that the person we're going to see is...well...not the nicest person in the world."
Katsuki put his hands in his pockets and nodded. "So she's a shitty, old hag?"
The girl knitted her eyebrows and pursed her lips. "We don't use that phrase in there but, yes. Yes, she is."
The (h/c)-haired female then took a step forward towards Katsuki and started fixing his shirt collar. "Anyway, she has this really bad habit of trying to provoke people by low-key insulting them," she tugged the collar up. "Getting them to be angry and strike back so that she'll have a reason not to help. She calls it a test, I call it bad manners," she stood on her tiptoes to fold the back of the collar back down. "Plus, she's got this resting bitchface thing going on that makes you feel like you're utter shit whenever she looks at you."
Katsuki remained frozen as he watched her fix his collar, his eyes staring at her beautiful face. He hadn't heard a single word she had said as he was busy memorizing every detail of her face like he did every day while a pink color stained on his cheeks. He was taken out of his thoughts when (Y/n) let out a loud sigh and took a step back when she was done.
"Yeah, so that's it," she shrugged. "Understood?"
"Huh?"
The girl frowned and placed her hands on her hips. "Were you even listening to me?"
"Of course I was!!" Katsuki shot back, his blush intensifying.
The girl hummed, unconvinced but let the matter go anyway.
"Okay fine. Now, thing is, I want you to keep your words at a minimum. No, in fact, I don't want you to say anything. Just let me do all the talking. Don't say anything."
Katsuki frowned. "You don't want me to say anything?!"
"Yes. The more of an asshole you are to her, the more her bitch side will shine. And trust me when I say that it will shine...bright...like a motherfucking diamond," the girl confirmed, giving Katsuki a pointed look.
The male gritted his teeth, his hands clenched into fists as he glared at the girl. He let out a loud groan of defeat and threw his hands in the air. "Fine! But if she fucking tries to bull shit me, I'm going to kill her!!"
(Y/n) crossed her arms over chest and nodded knowingly. "Oh, she will try. And you're not going to say or do anything. You are going to sit there, and be a good silent, little angry boy."
Katsuki growled lowly at her words, already feeling his anger taking over as (Y/n) continued talking.
"You wanted to come, right?" she took a step towards him. "So, you're gonna have to do whatever I say," she smirked at the angry boy. "No matter how angry you get."
Back to present***
Katsuki did not utter a single word. He was angry, no, furious. Literally almost foaming at the mouth. Never has he been insulted and failed to retaliate but here he was, taking in the woman's insults without doing or saying anything.
Before going there, he somehow thought that (Y/n) was bluffing when she described what the woman was like. But at the moment, he experienced firsthand what she really was like and Katsuki was almost having it with her. But still, he couldn't let down (Y/n), meaning that he'd gladly take the insults rather than disappoint her anytime soon. Mother fucking Superior could just kiss his ass.
The old lady noticed that Katsuki wasn't going to budge soon and gave him one last evil eye before turning back to (Y/n), much to the relief of the duo. (Y/n) sent the male a small grateful smile even though he didn't see it.
"You informed him well, didn't you?" the woman asked the girl, her voice monotonous.
(Y/n) shook her head and frowned. "He's a mute. And you just hurt his feelings."
The nun narrowed her eyes at the girl to see if she was lying but she remained vigilant, her expression unchanging under the woman's scrutiny and mentally smiled when the woman gave up.
"So, how have you been doing these days?"
(Y/n) blinked in surprise at the question of her well-being. She looked at Katsuki, who had now settled on simply glaring at the old woman and looked back at her.
She scratched the back of her head. "I'm...fine, I guess?"
"Still having that silly dream of being the greatest hero?" the woman inquired, a ghost of a mischievous smirk on her lips.
(Y/n)'s eyes narrowed into slits. She has begun... "It's not silly. And I'm working on it. I did enroll into U.A."
"Yes. I did happen to see you at the sports festival," she then looked at Katsuki. "Standing next to this ruffian who was tied up like an uncivilized barbarian," she scoffed in derision. "Mute my saved ass."
Katsuki's eyes twitched at the insult, his mouth curving up into a sneer. (Y/n) gasped silently and quickly spoke before things got worse.
"No, Mother. He was just simply angry and-"
"And what about you?" the woman turned back to her, cutting her off. "Your superiority complex died after that incident and you still managed third place. If I didn't know any better, that incident did you good. Made you know your place and stopped you from looking down on your peers and behaving boorishly. Am I right?"
(Y/n)'s mouth remained wide agape at her stinging words, her words stuck in her throat.
"Am. I. Right?" the woman repeated, using her authoritative voice that made many hung their heads in submission.
(Y/n) snapped her mouth shut and clenched her jaw as her hands squeezed into fists.
"Yes," she choked out bitterly, as she had no choice. It was either comply and get results or retaliate and fail.
"Good," the woman nodded once in approval. "Your manners have improved ever since you got adopted. Such a trouble child you were. I was quite surprised that you actually got adopted. I thought you'd probably remain a headache to us until the legal age to kick you out."
The (h/c)-haired female frowned at the woman but didn't say a word. Yes, she was a trouble child. A wild prankster who never listened to anyone and broke the rules. She had probably done all the punishments available in the orphanage but that didn't stop her. When her Quirk manifested, she became hard-headed. Visits to the Mother Superior's office was a daily dose to her. In exchange, she became the woman's favorite verbal punching bag.
One time, she was forbidden from using her Quirk for three weeks. The young girl got so angry and went as far as melting the orphanage's rose garden.
To say she was thoroughly punished would be the biggest understatement of the year.
The girl could feel her blood literally boiling. She could now understand how Katsuki felt. Her eyes went up to the wall behind the nun, falling on a large sign that read 'NO QUIRKS ALLOWED IN OFFICE'. Her eyes then darted to the large wooden crucifix hung right next to the sign.
She pressed her lips into a thin line and sharply inhaled.
The Lord must be testing me...
She looked back at the nun and gave her a forced smile. "Please shall we continue? We all have busy lives and we'd really like to get back to them."
The nun frowned and sighed at her failed attempts to rile up the teenagers. "Fine. What is it you want?"
The girl sighed and crossed her legs, relieved to have finally gotten through the hardest part. "I-we," she gestured between her and Katsuki. "Came here to ask about my parents. Again. See, I know that it's been a while and since we're back to looking for them, I thought that maybe, you'd have something on them you could help us with? You know, since they handed me over to you?"
"Your adoptive guardian was here with the same request," the woman picked up a pair of wire-rimmed reading glasses from the top of her desk and put them on. She then grabbed a stack of papers from the in/outbox and skimmed through the front page. "Caused quite a scene. I already gave her what she wanted. What more could you possibly want?"
The female tried to not focus on the nets of wrinkles that were still visible at the corners of her eyes and gave the woman a pleading look. "Anything. Any more information. It's just not enough."
"You know, the one who wants all loses all," she shot her a look over her glasses. "Besides, didn't you and your friend with the really bad colored hair always come here to ask for the same thing? I always told you no, and yet you still came back. How sure are you that my answer is not going to change?"
"But please mother. Haven't you ever wanted something so bad in your life?"
"No," the woman denied without hesitation and placed the stack on her table.
(Y/n)'s shoulders slumped in defeat. "Okay fine. Do it for me then."
The nun scoffed a laugh. (Y/n) made a withered face. "Fine. Do it for...for a child in need. Didn't you always teach us to help those in need?"
(Y/n) knew she struck a chord when she saw those thin lips of hers pull downwards. She was backed into a corner by her own teachings.
After a moment of silence, she spoke. "Very well. I'm only doing this because I cannot accept being one of the forces separating a child from her family."
(Y/n) gave a lopsided grin and turned to Katsuki, who smirked at her. The nun rose from her chair and went to a large cabinet at the corner of the room. She opened one of the drawers and removed a file.
"I knew you might show up, so I kept it nearer for easier accessibility," she said as she walked back to her chair.
"Aww," the girl cooed, a smug smile on her lips. "So you were gonna to give me either way. I knew you had a soft spot for me, M.S," she placed a hand on her chest. "I'm touched."
"Don't get ahead over yourself. I was merely testing you," she retorted back as she took a seat and extended the file to (Y/n). But as she was about to take it, the woman pulled it back. The girl sent her a puzzled look. "I hope you know what you're doing child," the woman sent her a stern yet meaningful look. "There was a specific reason why they didn't want you to find them. Are you sure you're up to the task?"
(Y/n) swallowed and nodded. "Yes, I am. I know what I'm doing."
"I hope you do," the woman said, finally handing her the file.
(Y/n) took it and looked at it. It had the same 'CONFIDENTIAL' written on it like the other. She opened the file and briefly flipped through the pages.
"Those contain further information. They were brought in weeks after they left you in our care. Your parents instructed me to keep them, just in case you got curious and asked for them. They wanted to keep you safe yet they also didn't want to keep you in the dark about them. If you asked me, they seemed pretty undecided. Wanting you to not find them and find them at the same time," the woman sighed and rested her elbows on her table to make a steeple of her fingers. "I didn't give you those earlier because you were too young. Not ready to understand somethings. But now, you are capable of knowing when and when not to stop so use that privilege wisely."
(Y/n) nodded, having have listened to every word she had spoken and brushed her palm against one of the pages. She smiled. "Don't worry. I will."
"Well off you go then," the woman said and picked up a pen from its holder. She flipped through the pages of the stack of paper on her desk. "I have papers to sign and your presence is wearing me off."
(Y/n) rolled her eyes and stood up, Katsuki in tow. "Thanks, siz, you have been most helpful."
"Yes, yes," Mother Superior gave a dismissive wave of her hand without looking at them. "Now please leave and close the door behind you."
(Y/n) shook her head and turned to leave for the door. As her hand went to grab the handle, the nun's voice stopped her.
"Before I forget," the woman looked up from her papers, making the duo turn back to her. "I hope you stopped (a very embarrassing thing that you do in private). It was quite...unseemly."
(Y/n)'s face immediately turned a deep shade of crimson and her jaw went slack. Katsuki snorted in amusement and turned his head away when he noticed (Y/n)'s brief glare on him. The girl forced a smile at the woman's smug smile. Her eyes narrowed. She never gives up, does she?!
As (Y/n) opened her mouth to retort, Mother Superior beat her to it.
"Don't worry," she said and went back to signing her papers. "Your mute ruffian of a friend won't say anything, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about."
(Y/n) scowled at her and took in a deep breath to calm her rage. Her jaw tightened and she forced out a strangled "Whatever you say."
The nun then pointed to the door with the edge of her pen while she flipped to the next page, indicating 'get out'.
Deciding not to waste a single minute in that damned office, the girl turned and yanked open the door, exiting with Katsuki behind her. She closed the door and leaned her back against it, her face still burning in embarrassment.
She looked at Katsuki, who was still smirking in amusement. She scowled. "Whatever she just said, ignore it and pretend you never heard anything."
Katsuki shrugged and bit his bottom lip to prevent bursting into laughter.

As the two walked out of the orphanage, (Y/n) took out her phone from her jeans pockets and checked the time.
3:40 pm
"Well, we still got time to kill," she turned to Katsuki. "Wanna make a quick run to Hajime Industries' office?"
The male shrugged. "Yeah sure."
"Cool. We can take the train there or do you prefer we walk?" the girl inquired, as she checked her inbox for any message. "Forty minutes by foot,"
"Let's walk."
"Okay."

"I fucking can't believe we walked all that way and the guy didn't have the fucking balls to see us!!!" Katsuki barked as he stomped out of the building with a disappointed (Y/n) in tow.
"It's fine, Katsuki," the girl sighed and looked heavenward at the ominous dark clouds that have gathered above. The air was thick with the earthy, sweet smell of an oncoming storm and she hoped that they wouldn't be caught in it. "We'll just try another time, I guess."
Katsuki turned around and stomped back to her. "You're just gonna give up like that?!" he angrily pointed back at the building. "I'm gonna go back in there and beat the shit out of all of them until that dipshit comes out of his hideout!!"
With that, Katsuki turned to head back to the entrance but halted when (Y/n) jumped in front of him and shoved him back.
"No! Katsuki, listen to me," when the boy made an attempt to go around her, she sidestepped him and placed her hands on his chest to prevent him from going further. "Listen to me!! We don't wanna make a scene. This isn't our hood and we'll surely get arrested if you do."
Katsuki glared down at her but listened to her nonetheless. "Fine. But if they try that shit next time, I'm going to blow the whole fucking building down!!"
"Okay! Okay! Sure. You have my permission," the girl muttered the last part in annoyance as she turned to glare at the tall skyscraper that seemed to be jeering at her failure with its elegant structure.
The receptionist at the front had cruelly dismissed them, telling them that they couldn't be seen unless they had an appointment and that the person in charge was in a meeting. It was quite hilarious when said person appeared to hand over some documents to the embarrassed receptionist. But nevertheless, they were still rejected.
She turned to the male, letting her hands fall back to her sides and sighed. "Well, nothing is ever that easy. Besides, we got this far," she lifted her shoulder in a half shrug. "What could possibly go wrong?"
As if to respond, low, loud thunder suddenly boomed in the skies, then came the first of drops of rain that increased to a drenching downpour.
"...You've got to be shittin' me."
