1 ❥THE CALLING CARD

If Touya, Fuyumi, and Natsuo Todoroki were failures, than Todoroki Shiina was an abomination. At age four, her older twin brother, Shouto, was spewing flames and ice from his hands while nothing would come out of hers.

According to doctors (and her father hired the best ones), Shiina had an additional joint in her small toe, a strong indication of Quirklessness. Every doctor Rei and Enji went to said the same thing: their daughter was Quirkless.

After another failed appointment, the three returned to their car, Endeavor leading the way. The pavement melted under his feet, flames were spewing from his nose. He had hopes for his pair of twins. High hopes and great expectations. He could've had two masterpieces!

But no, his plans were foiled and his hopes were flushed down the drain. He had one masterpiece, which was good enough... if it hadn't been for the fact the other half was Quirkless.

A Quirkless daughter. The media would have a field day if they knew that the Number Two Hero, Endeavor, had a Quirkless daughter. It would be an insult to the family name!

The stuffed Endeavor toy in Shiina's hand fell to the ground. Shiina stopped to turn back, but was tugged forward by her mother.

"Mommy, I dropped my toy," Shiina told her. "Can I—"

Endeavor looked over his shoulder and sent her a dangerous glare. "Be quiet." He said lowly. A clear warning in his tone.

Her throat dried out in an instant, her face turning pale. This wasn't the first time he had spoken harshly to her, but his tone was different than all the other tones he used on her. He was purely enraged with her.

Rei clenched Shiina's hand desperately as she scurried after her fuming husband, knowing that there would be a new kind of hell unleashed the second they returned home.

Please let there be traffic, she prayed, buckling Shiina into her booster.

"Take us back to the estate!" Endeavor barked at the driver, who flinched at his scathing tone.

Shiina started to tense up. Her father was always mad, but this was something new. Was he that disappointed that she didn't have a Quirk? Surely it wouldn't matter to him, right? He loved her after all.

Or at least, in her blinded eyes, he did.

That was the last appointment with the Quirk Specialist. It was official. Shiina was Quirkless and there was nothing to change it. Her father had long stopped buying her toys, the servants had stopped going to her room to alert her of meal time, and every time his eyes swept to her, all he would do was yell at her to leave his sight.

She and Shouto used to be spoiled rotten by him. But everything changed once they turned four. Now Shouto was gaining all of their father's attention and she was banished along with the rest of her older siblings, except this time... her case was different.

She was hated. Absolutely abhorred by him. Her father never yelled at her siblings the way he did with her. He never treated them so horribly either. At least he still remembered to call them to eat. Touya had to bring the meals to her room, knowing that her presence at the dining table would infuriate their father even more. Endeavor had also stopped Shiina's education, which led to Fuyumi to try to teach her how to read during free time. Natsuo would play soccer with her whenever Endeavor was out and would quickly sneak her back to her room whenever the frightening man came back home.

Everything became worse when her own mother couldn't even stand looking at her. She stopped combing Shiina's scarlet locks and every time her grey eyes made contact with her turquoise ones, the older woman would flinch and run away. Touya was getting the same treatment as well, and the two would often comfort each other to the best of their ability.

So her father had stopped loving her, and now, so did her mother.

The worst thing that had happened was when her mother was taken away because of what she had done to Shouto. She had purposely thrown a kettle full of boiling water at his left side, permanently scarring him, but that wasn't enough to phase Shiina anymore. Her mother was gone and she had a feeling she would never come back.

One day, she just snapped.

"I HATE YOU!" She shrieked, attacking Shouto when she saw him in the living room. She took no notice at his poor state of bruises and burns, and pushed him down. She climbed over him and started slamming her tiny fists into his battered skin, screaming in pure rage.

"GIVE ME MY QUIRK BACK! YOU STOLE IT! YOU STOLE EVERYTHING!" She screeched, a brazen look on her face. She felt robbed. Why did Shouto end up with their parents' Quirks?! Why didn't he at least share it with her?! Why did their father pay more attention to him?! Why did he have to make their mother go away?!

It was all his fault.

Todoroki Shouto stole everything from her. Her Quirk, her parents, her life.

Someone in the background shouted her name. There was a ringing in her ears that kept her from distinguishing the voice, so she dismissed it and carried on with her assault. Suddenly, a pair of arms hooked under hers, effortlessly prying her off the broken boy.

"Shiina, stop it!" Touya ordered.

She thrashed around violently. "Let me go! I hate you!"

"Are you listening to yourself?!" He asked her angrily.

Fuyumi dashed to the scene and for a second, she stopped breathing. Her little brother was on the ground, crying from all the pain he had endured and her little sister was being restrained like a wild animal by her oldest brother. Shiina no longer looked like herself. Her furious expression reminded Fuyumi strongly of their father. Now Shiina really was the spitting image of him.

As Fuyumi tended to Shouto, Touya carried the youngest Todoroki to her room, wincing whenever her small fists smacked him. He also had some tender bruises from their dad.

"Shiina," he set her down, and she tried running around him to reach the door. He grabbed her easily. "Stop it!" He said sternly.

"Let me go, let me go!" She screamed, barring her teeth at him. Her eyes, which was so similar to his own, were full of angry tears.

"I'm serious, Shiina, stop it! You're acting like dad!" He scolded harshly.

"So what?!" She said in a shrilly voice.

Touya made a face of disgust. She was still so young, so oblivious and blinded to how horrible their father truly was. She never stopped looking up to him despite his terrible treatment towards her. She still thought he was the same man who 'spoiled' her before she turned four.

But no, Enji Todoroki was a terrible man and always had been.

He would know of course, he was the first one who had been spoiled up until he was four. He had to watch the same thing happen to the rest of his siblings.

"Stop it, Shiina... just stop it," he said exhaustively. "You're lucky dad wasn't here when he saw you attack Shouto. Do you know what he'd do to you, Shiina? Hm?"

She looked down in silence.

"...Why did you attack Shouto?" He asked more softly this time.

"..."

"Ichigo," he teased her reddened face.

She pouted, mumbling angrily, "...Because... I-I hate him..." She sniffed, trying not to cry.

He crouched before her, pushing strands of her red hair that was just like his, out of her face. "And why do you hate him? You didn't hate him before."

"Before, Shouto never stole anything from me," she argued. "But now, he... he took mommy and daddy away... He stole my Quirk..."

"None of that is true," he told her firmly. "Shouto didn't do anything wrong. It's not his fault mom and dad... are the way they are and he never stole your Quirk. I told you before, didn't I...? It's okay to be Quirkless."

Tears were freely streaming down her face as she shook her head angrily. "No it's not!" She said, voice raising. "Daddy won't let me go to school anymore! He hates me because I don't have a Quirk! Shouto stole it!"

Touya grasped her shoulders and shook her once. "Shouto didn't steal anything," he said desperately. He didn't know where she suddenly got that idea—of Shouto taking her Quirk away—but she needed to snap out of it. "And dad... dad never loved any of us—"

"—THAT'S NOT TRUE!"

"SHIINA!" He yelled her name, glaring at her and for a second, she saw her father. He forced himself to calm down when he saw her face. "You need to listen to me, Shiina. That man isn't our father... He never loved any of us."

She shook her head stubbornly. "S'not true," she mumbled, completely convinced. "Daddy always bought me things, he used to let me go outside and play, he used to let me eat with him!"

"You think you're the only one he treated nicely before turning four?!" He found himself screaming. He shook her wildly. "He was like that with us too! But we were failures!"

What the hell am I saying? He wondered to himself. She's five. She'll never understand... Not now at least.

"You want to go back to school?" He said randomly, wanting to talk about anything other than their shit father. He released her shoulders and stood up. "Okay, I'll ask. I'll make sure you're put back in school." It was for her own good anyways. The less she was home with Endeavor, the better it would be for her health. He already lost his mother to that man, he wasn't going to let Shiina be taken away too.

Her face lit up as if she had forgotten their previous argument. "Really? You'll ask daddy?"

I'll fight him, more like. "Yeah." He answered.

He left her squealing in excitement in her room, quietly shutting the door behind him.

He felt nothing but dread and pity for her.

Her life had changed for the worst, but so did she.

"I still can't believe we're attending school with the daughter of a Pro Hero," Ann awed. "The Number Two hero at that."

Ryuji scowled. "Well, he ain't anything great, okay?"

Her expression contorted into sorrow. "I know," she bit her lip. "Sorry."

"I understand why Kiberi-san needs a change of heart, but shouldn't we do the same to her father?" Makoto asked curiously.

"Definitely," Ryuji nodded. "But... Shiina's my first priority. Always will be. After we change her heart, we target her shitty old man next."

"Do you have the card?" Akira asked.

Ryuji patted his bag. "Right here. I just have to wait for the right opportunity to slip it in her backpack... Hopefully this goes well."

Mona popped his head out from Akira's bag. "You better not screw this up." He warned.

Ryuji glared at him, "Of course I won't! Sheesh, shut up you mangy cat..."

Akira grabbed Mona before he could lunge and struggled to shove him back in his bag. "Stop fighting you two," he sweat dropped.

"Lunch is almost over," Haru pointed out, ignoring the spat between cat and boy. "When are you going to give it to her?"

"After school," he said with certainty. "I always meet up with her outside her homeroom and she always goes to the bathroom once classes are over. And because her backpack weighs, like, ten ton, she has me hold on to it while she goes to piss. I can put the card in her bag while she's out."

"Wait, why doesn't she just hang her backpack on the hook?" Akira asked randomly. Didn't every bathroom stall have a hook on the door? Or was that not a thing in the girls' restroom?

"Like I said, it weighs a ton. She used a hook once but it broke off." Ryuji shrugged as if to say 'what can she do?'.

The bell finally rang, indicating that lunch was over. They all parted ways, Ryuji going to 2-E's class while Akira and Ann (with Mona hiding) went straight to 2-D. Haru and Makoto headed off to the third years' hall.

The MC, Kiberi Shiina, was lounging about in class 1-C. She was not-so-discreetly filing her nails on top of her desk while her homeroom teacher droned on and on about something irrelevant. She just managed to shape her last pinky nail into a perfect square when the bell rang.

Oh finally, she thought, shoving her nail filer into her beauty bag. She needed to pee. Badly. Gathering her things, she headed straight for the door only for her teacher to call out to her.

"Kiberi, for the millionth time, button up your shirt!" Mrs. Sagari (or Mrs. Saggy as Shiina liked to call her in her head) scowled.

"Jealous?" The redhead quipped before bursting into giggles at the dark look the older lady was giving her.

Shiina glanced down at her chest with a gaze akin to pure satisfaction. Her school blazer was unbuttoned and fully opened to show her white blouse which had several buttons undone to show off her two glorious globes. Shiina was very proud of her body and often showed it off through provocative and/or stylish clothes.

If ya got 'em, flaunt 'em.

When class was over, the first thing Shiina did was slam her bag against the chest of her closest friend, Ryuji Sakamoto, who was standing outside her classroom door.

"Need to pee!" She squeaked, scurrying over to the nearest restroom.

This was basically protocol for them now.

When she was finished with her business, she returned to see Ryuji holding her bag with an oddly... forced smile on his face.

"What's wrong with you, you look constipated." She stated bluntly.

He winced. "Had some bad shrimp during lunch."

She pouted angrily, "Speaking of lunch, you didn't even eat with me! Jerk."

He scratched the back of his head. "Sorry? I had a track meet. Anyways!" He said quickly. "Can you get your bag already? My arm's killin' me."

She took her bag and effortlessly shouldered it. "Alright, let's go."

"You wanna get some bonchon?" He asked hopefully. "It's close by."

She shook her head. "Nah, daddy's coming home early. I want to be able to see him. I got a perfect score in my math test, dude. A perfect score. You know how rare that is? I barely pass!"

He fell uncharacteristically silent, biting the inside of his lip at the mention of her shitty old man. "You know he's not gonna care," the second he said that, he regretted it.

She gave him a dangerous glare. "Shut up, Ryuji," she muttered lowly. "You don't know how he'll react. Maybe he's in a good mood today!" She knew she was getting defensive, but hearing about how her father didn't care about her made her snap (it was the harsh truth but she would deny it for as long as she lived. Her father did love her).

They took the subway and walked the rest of the way to the Todoroki Estate, though it was tense and painfully silent. Ryuji's fists were balled the entire time. He absolutely hated how she still worshipped her father while he couldn't give a rat's ass about her. How could she be so naïve? She was wishing for the impossible...

The large house came to view. It was a large traditional Japanese-styled home, two stories and looked like it could fit ten people. It was surrounded by lush greenery and chirping birds. To outsiders, it looked like a pleasant place but Ryuji knew nothing pleasant was going on inside.

He had known Shiina for years. They first met at the park. She was nine and he was ten. She was with one of her older brothers, the one with white hair, and they were playing soccer together. She accidentally kicked the soccer ball too hard and it went soaring to Ryuji's head.

It was a rocky start, but their friendship bloomed over the years.

But over those years, Ryuji started to notice things. One day it was a reddened cheek. Another, it was a bruise on the wrist from a vice grip. He knew the signs of abuse, his dad was an abuser before he left him and his mom. But who would ever hurt Shiina?

It wasn't until he first met her dad when he was twelve did he finally piece things together.

"D-dad!"

Everyone froze when the terrified gasp escaped Fuyumi's lips. She gazed in horror at the looming man that entered the field, her eyes whipping towards Shiina, to Ryuji, then back to their father.

Ryuji was gaping, unaware of the darkening atmosphere that was quickly surrounding them. He turned to Shiina. "Shi-chan, you never told me your dad was Endeavor!"

Shiina didn't reply. She looked too nervous. "D-d-daddy," she began, stuttering as his turquoise eyes swept to her, piercing her with his stare. She struggled to smile. "This is my friend, Ryuji... He... he wanted to come ov"

"Did I say you could have friends over?" He interrupted, and Ryuji's previous amazement vanished when he saw the man's terrifying glare.

Shiina's face fell. "I..."

"When did I even allow you to leave your room?" He continued. Ryuji could see Fuyumi's face paling. Natsuo's fists were balled and he looked like he wanted to scream.

"I"

"Is this where all your free time went to?! Playing with 'friends'?!" He roared. "You think I don't know about your grades, you abomination?! I let you go to school and you repay me with such pitiful performances?!"

Ryuji took a step back out of fear and shock. Just what was happening?!

"Leave her alone!" Natsuo finally yelled. "She's eleven, let her be a kid! At least let one of the twins have a life!"

"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU'RE TALKING TO?!" Endeavor started yelling back, his flames growing stronger and brighter.

Shiina spoke up in hopes to diffuse the situation. "Daddy, I'm sorry! I'll study harder, I swe"

"I don't want to hear a word from you!" He seethed, making her flinch. His angry gaze turned to Ryuji, who froze on the spot. "As for you, I want you to leave. You are not wanted here."

Ryuji sent a helpless stare to Shiina, who could only give him a tearful and apologetic look in return.

Ever since that day, Ryuji could no longer stand to have Shiina suffer under that man's 'care'. But what could he do? Before, all he could do was watch. But now that he was a Phantom Thief, he could finally save her...

Except, to save her, he'd have to take her down.

"Your friend looks a lot like Endeavor, don't you think?" It was a harmless observation from Morgana, who was watching a news clip about Endeavor taking down a bunch of villains, but the question made Ryuji tense up.

Thankfully, nobody noticed.

"She does," Akira agreed with a nod, humming. "She has his bright red hair and his eyes."

"I think Endeavor looks a lot more frightening than Kiberi-san," Haru disagreed. "Endeavor looks mean while Kiberi-san seems more friendly."

"I don't know about friendly..." Makoto trailed off, side-eying Ryuji. "Anyone so close to Ryuji is most likely as brash as he is."

"Brash?!" The blonde male cocked his head back. "Since when the hell am I brash?!"

"You're kidding right?" Akira chuckled, but then stopped when he realized that Ryuji was serious. "Oh... You're not..."

Ann rolled her eyes and looked back at the news clip, comparing the two sources of topic.

"Todoroki Shiina sounds a lot better than Kiberi Shiina,"* she mused, and suddenly there was mechanical voice speaking.

"Candidate found." They all jumped as the Meta Navigators on their phones spoke.

"W-what?!" Ryuji blurted out, hastily scrambling to get his phone. He looked at the screen, his eyes widening in horror.

Todoroki Shiina had a Palace.

He should've known. He didn't like thinking of his best friend as 'corrupted', but there were times that he just knew something wasn't right with her. And it wasn't just her never-ending adoration for her abusive father.

It was how she treated her twin brother Shouto.

Ryuji had never met him in real life, but he knew that they didn't have a close relationship. Well, in Shiina's case they didn't. She would always rant about how her brother 'stole' her Quirk while they were still in their mother's womb. It was unheard of, but he knew that most Quirkless people tried to find excuses as to why they were like the way they were. It was their way to cope.

He used to tell himself that he was Quirkless because of his shitty old man's drinking problem. He drank too much and it caused him to have a fucked up, Quirkless kid. It didn't make any sense, but it was all he could think of at the time. But now he no longer qualified as 'Quirkless'. Well, to the general public he still did, but thanks to his Persona, he felt more powerful.

Anyways, her 'stolen Quirk' wasn't all Shiina would rave about. She had vented to him that Shouto was the cause of all her misery. He was the reason their mother was gone, banished to an insane asylum. He was the reason their father no longer loved her like he did before, etc.

'Shouto's a nasty little thief,' she had said.

Ryuji had a feeling the only reason he never met her older twin was because she was worried he'd be stolen away from him too. He never pointed it out to her though.

All of these things were the reason she had a Palace.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Ryu!" She chirped, opening the gates.

"Yeah, see ya!" He waved.

Shiina eagerly entered her home, wanting to find her father immediately. She found him in the hallway, most likely heading to the training room.

"Daddy!" She called out.

He stopped and turned around, a displeased expression on his face (but at least he wasn't yelling at her to get lost yet). "What is it?"

She whipped out her test and showed it to him proudly. "Look, I got everything right on my math test! Isn't that great? I rarely ever do, but I studied really hard for this! Are you proud?"

"Where is your brother?"

She tried not to deflate at how easily he ignored her achievements and went to ask about Shouto instead. "U-um..." She could feel tears of frustration starting to leak from her eyes.

"Don't make me ask you again," he growled, growing annoyed with her. "Do you know where Shouto is? He's supposed to be training with me the second he returns from school!"

"No," she said tensely, her body stiff. "I don't know where he is, but I'll be sure to send him your message."

He grunted at her, and continued on his way.

Why does he only care about Shouto?! Why is it always him?! She stormed down the hallways and ran into the source of her nightmares.

"You," she growled, glaring hatefully at her older twin. "You're supposed to be training with daddy, you idiot! Now because of your tardiness he's too pissed to even acknowledge me!"

A saddened expression crossed over his face as he stared his younger sister down. "I'm sorry," he said earnestly. "I'll go there right away then."

She huffed, sending him one last scathing look before shouldering passed him to get to her room. She slammed the door loudly, not caring if her father would complain about it.

Shouto, Shouto, Shouto, why is he so much more important than I am?! Why did I have to lose everything to him?! In a fit of anger, she threw her bag to the side, causing it's contents to spill out.

The vibrant red caught her attention. She walked towards it, slowly calming down only for her heart rate to skyrocket when she picked it up.

It was a calling card from the Phantom Thieves. Similar to the one given to Kamoshida.

What... what is this...? She thought, flipping it to the other side where crudely cut out magazine letters were glued to create a message.

Lady Todoroki Shiina, the mad woman. You've deluded yourself into thinking you've been robbed of everything you hold dear. You blame your hardships on the innocent as you continue to grow more corrupt and twisted. We will make you confess to your vices and atone for your sins.

Sincerely, The Phantom Thieves

They knew her name. Her real name.

This couldn't be happening to her. The Phantom Thieves?! Why would they want to target her of all people?! She wasn't a criminal like all their other previous targets! She had never done anything wrong!

She quickly shoved the card back into her bag, no longer wanting to see it. She sat on the edge of her bed, contemplating.

If the Phantom Thieves were targeting her, did that mean she'll be killed? It happened to an upperclassman in her school—her father was killed on live television for everyone to see! Would she end up just like him too?!

What do I do? She wondered, glancing back at the bag on the floor. Should she go to the police? Her father? Would Fuyumi know what to do?

...I don't know what to do...

— author's note —

Honestly, I've been watching Riverdale too much, I got my OC saying 'daddy' like Veronica lol. Speaking of daddy, Shiina's got real daddy issues, doesn't she?

Also, when I write about Endeavor 'spoiling his kids', it's not like "Oh, you want this toy? Of course you can have it sweetie!" way, it's more like "Oh, you want this toy? Fine, I'll buy it so you'll shut up" kind of way.

And I noticed that most OCs in the BNHA fanfics are either cutesy, plain, tomboyish, or super depressed so I decided why not have an OC that was confident and flashy?

*You know how you need a person's name for the Meta Nav to work? It wouldn't have worked if the Phantom Thieves said 'Kiberi Shiina' since it's not her real name so I needed to find a way for her real name to be said aloud.
