Chapter Four
The three of us were at a small diner trying to figure out what to do.
Macie and I were just supposed to go, but Tyler was bored and decided to tag along.
We skimmed over our menus as we thought of ideas.
"Are you three ready to order?" A blonde around mine and Tyler's age asked in a bored tone.
Tyler's eyes lit up once he saw her face and I knew what was coming,"Can I order some time with you?" He grinned, wrapping one of his arms around her waist and pulling her towards him.
"Sorry, that's not in the menu." She retorted, and Macie and I both snickered a bit.
He shot us glares before ordering.
Macie and I followed next, before we handed her our menus.
"I bet she'll spit in your food." I thought aloud, smirking.
He rolled his eyes, "Haha, very funny."
"I've never been turned down." He muttered under his breath, obviously trying not to let anyone hear, but I did.
"Well, there's a first time for everything," I stated, and his eyes snapped up to meet mine.
"And a last." He hissed, before standing up and storming to the bathroom.
"Did my comment really irritate him that bad?" I asked Macie, who was watching all of this with an amused glint in her eye.
"He just doesn't like being insulted, and you and that waitress both did it." She replied, obviously thinking this situation is funny since her brother is getting picked on.
He came out of the bathroom, looking different than before.
"It doesn't matter if you fix your hair," I started, already earning a piercing glare. "She's still not going to change her opinion of you."
He looked like a raging bull, his face a faint red, and his eyes burning flames of fury.
I could almost see the steam coming out of his ears.
The waitress set our plates down, not even throwing him a glance, which angered him even more.
Macie muttered a 'thanks', before starting on her food.
I did the same, grinning humorously at Tyler's livid expression.
"Dude, calm down, take a joke." I laughed; he didn't bother responding, he just angrily stabbed at his food with a fork.
"Okay Ty, go to the bathroom, splash some cold water on your face, and calm down." Macie said.
Tyler got up and did as she said, leaving the two of us alone.
"This is going to be a lot harder than I thought," Macie muttered under her breath, causing me to focus my attention on her.
"What is?" I asked hesitantly, and she gave me a sheepish smile.
"I'm kind of trying to figure out a way to get you two together. I mean, I'd totally ship Dyler." The moment she said 'Dyler', I was ready to strangle her.
"Dyler, is never going to happen. I mean, he's cute, but I don't like him, and I know for sure he doesn't like me." I stated simply, taking a bite of my burger.
"I think you both will eventually, I've done this before, and I can do it again." Was all she had time to say before Tyler sat down again, looking visibly calmer.
"I've gotta go to the bathroom, I'll be back." Macie said, getting up.
She winked at me before turning and walking towards the lady's room.
"So, I've heard rumors that you're going out with Britney," I spat her name out as though it were a disease, which caught his attention.
"So what if I did. I'm not, but what do you have against her?" He asked, our eyes meeting.
"N-nothing," I stammered, and he shot me a look as though telling me he knows I'm lying.
"Okay fine. She torments me just about everyday. I know that Monday, when we go back to school, and finish our last week before summer break, she's going to be even worse than usual." I answered honestly.
His eyes softened, and just then Macie returned, ruining any possible bonding moment Tyler and I could've had, but I shot her a look, which made her stand up again.
"I guess I'm not done," She forced a laugh. "Greasy foods really get to me." She scurried off to the bathroom again, leaving the two of us alone once more.
"That was disturbing," Tyler made a disgusted face, scrunching up his nose in a cute fashion. "But anyway, does she physically bully you, or just verbally?" He seemed genuinely concerned, which made me want to smile.
"Both. Sometimes she slams me into lockers, or slaps me, other times she just tells me I'm ugly, fat, stupid, etcetera." I replied, pure sadness lacing my tone.
"You're not ugly," He said, looking me deep in the eye. "And you're definitely not fat or stupid."
Macie returned again, ruining the moment, but it'd be too obvious if she left again.

We finished our food and decided to go to the beach, so we went home and changed into our swimsuits.
Macie and I threw a shirt and shorts over our swimsuits, and since Tyler obviously only wore trunks, he only threw a white shirt on.
We all carpooled in Tyler's car, singing along to his overly static radio, the windows down, and the wind through our hair.
Making us look like a twisted, drunk version of the teens in movies.
We pulled into the beach about fifteen minutes later, before grabbing our towels and running across the scorching sand to find good spots on the beach.
We set our towels down and took our clothes off, of course leaving our swim wear on. This isn't a porn show.
We ran into the cool water, washing away the sand from our feet, and the worries that life caused, letting us just have fun and live in the moment.
There were a couple cute guys coming towards Macie and I, an older and younger boy, looking like brothers. They looked about both of our ages.
I lost focus of, Macie and her boy when mine started talking to me.
He had dark brown hair and bright green eyes. His skin was sun kissed, all-in-all, he was hot.
"Hey, I'm Jacob, and you are?" He asked me, his eyes melting into mine, making me feel as though I were floating.
"I'm Devan," I grinned, but he busted out in laughter, pointing at me.
"W-what's so funny?" I asked, my cheeks tinged with pink.
"Your name, that's a guys name." He stated between laughter.
Then all of a sudden there was an arm around my shoulders, weighing me down a bit, but not purposefully.
"It can go both ways, so why don't you back off moron." Tyler growled, causing chills down my spine at his harsh tone.
He was protecting me.
My cheeks went into an even deeper shade of pink as the guy backed away, leaving Tyler, and a very confused me, standing there alone.
"Thanks for helping me, but why? I thought you hated me." I pointed out.
"Hate is a strong word, more like I extremely dislike you. But either way, no-one deserves to be mocked, so I decided I'd stand up for you." He stated, before swimming away.
But Tyler mocks other people, why the sudden change of heart?
