Today is the day of the party. I'm actually really excited. I get to meet all of Haynes' friends who he works with and I'm pretty sure his boss already likes me. Plus free food. I got out of bed and walked into the kitchen. Haynes was cooking breakfast. He was wearing what he's going to be wearing tonight, tan pants with a black polo shirt and dark maroon sneakers. I'm just wearing my pjs, work out shorts with a velvet purple tank top.
"I'm surprised the gays aren't here for breakfast." Haynes pointed out.
I shrugged while on my phone, "they're probably still sleeping. They went out last night."
"You'll think they'll make it to the party on time?"
I shook my head, "they're probably not even coming."
"Well, I can invite another couple."
"What about Chlo and Lewis?"
"I haven't seen them in a while. They should come."
I smiled, "good because I already invited them."
Before he could add anything the doorbell rung. I hurried over and answered it. It was Lewis and Chloe. I had them wait out there, pretty sure they were waiting for about twenty minutes. They walked in and took a seat at the table, waiting for breakfast. Haynes looked me annoyed, but I knew he was cool with it.
"So, how long were you guys waiting out there?" He asked continuing to make breakfast.
"What are you talking about? We just got here." Chloe is such a bad liar.
"Next time let Lewis lie for you." I replied.
"My boss is a really cool guy, very laid back, just don't bring up politics." Haynes said.
"Let me guess, big rich doctor voted for big rich millionaire." Lewis added a little annoyed.
I'm not getting into that mess.
"Actually, he voted more socialist."
"Wait, he voted for Larry David's doppelganger? Weird.."
Chloe gave him an "are you serious" kind of look, "I'm a fashion blogger. I'm wearing a unicorn shoes. You really think politics is my go too?"
She is wearing pastel pink skinny jeans, a white crop penny tee that says "girl power" in a 60s style font and unicorn sneakers. Lewis is wearing something way more casual. Jeans, green plaid shirt and black sneakers. Simple... They're such a weird couple. Then again my boyfriend's name is Haynes.
"
"Are you guys heading home to change or?" Haynes questioned.
Haynes describes his bosses party as a semi-formal. With the ladies looking way more classy because of a more sexist comment, but I'm letting it slide.. I mean he is Haynes' boss and wasn't too offensive.
"Eliza picked up a dress for me and Lewis looks fine."
"You should probably put on some slacks, jeans aren't really semi-formal. I'll just give you a pair." He said to Lewis.
Lewis shrugged. We ate breakfast and literally just watched tv until it was time to get ready. My dress is this dark green skater dress with a tiny gold belt, maroon heels and rose earring. Chloe's dress is this one shoulder part multi colored draped and other part black mini dress, black heels with a tropical add on to the front and a gold bracelet with colorful tassels. With a little bit of make up, Chloe and I were ready to head out. We waited in my living for what felt like an hour, turns out it was an hour.
"Come on!" Chloe shouted.
"And they say girls take forever?" I looked at her with a smile.
"You think they're making out?"
"Worse, probably talking about us."
"Oh, I hope nothing bad." She said sarcastically.
"Aaaand, presenting your gentleman for tonight..." Haynes trailed off.
They were wearing what they were wearing earlier, except that Lewis was wearing tan slacks. We left and arrived at a huge fancy house in Beverly Hills. Why are doctors so rich? It's kind of not fair. Then again, neither are most things in this world. It kind of felt like prom, except ten times better, which I never thought prom could be fun. We walked into to a beautiful interior. And to think this guy donates a lot of charity. Man... Money goals. We were walking around, making small talk. Everyone looked so amazing and seemed so happy. Then we got to Bethany and her date. Bethany was wearing this really nice tight red cocktail dress with black heels and a gold necklace. She really did look beautiful. Her date was wearing what every other guy was wearing, button down with slacks.
"Wow, Bethany, you look great." I genuinely smiled.
"Oh this? Yeah, I just bought it a few years ago for like $300. No big deal." She bragged, completely ignoring my compliment.
I took a deep breath and turned to Chloe ready to claw at this bitch. Chloe saved me.
"I'm a fashion blogger and that dress has been out of trends for over 3 years. So I take you got it off the clearance rack."
Bethany looked annoyed.
"Oh, but don't worry, I got my dress off the clearance rack too. It's like we're twins!"
Her date laughed a little, "hey, you both got blonde hair and blue eyes, practically twins."
"Hi, I'm Chloe Lewis, a friend of Haynes." She shook Bethany's date's hand.
"I'm Joel, I'm a tech guy at some boring corporation."
Joel is pretty tall with short black hair and dark brown eyes. He kind of seemed like an airhead.
"This is my fiance, Lewis."
"Wait, your last name is Lewis and your date's first name is Lewis?"
"Yeah, when we get married, he's taking my last name. You should come to our wedding when we actually set a date."
"I do DJing on the side, I could totally DJ for free."
"Yo! Perfect!"
While Chloe and Joel were bonding, Bethany went off to get a drink and Haynes and I were pulled away by his boss. His boss took us to his study and shut the door. Okay, so we might get murdered, but I'm okay with dying in a fancy ass house.
"You're a pretty good host, leaving your guess out there in front of valuables." Haynes was partially joking.
"At least 2 things get stolen every year, that's why the important stuff are out front." He added.
Less important? I'm sorry an expensive copy of Van Gogh's starry night is less important? Well. I know what I'm taking.
"Anyways, I brought you in here because I have an offer for you Haynes."
"And I'm here to look pretty?" I smiled.
"You're here to make sure he doesn't keep this from you."
We both looked nervously at each other. It couldn't be bad... Could it?
"I'm retiring very soon, I would about a month. I need someone to take over. Someone, loyal and smart and great with people," he added, "I've seen you grow and achieve so many things. When you quit, I knew you would be back. When Jared passed, I knew you would work as hard as you could to help anyone who needed your help. When you met your lovely girlfriend Eliza, I knew you were finally happy. Even though your dad put so much pressure on you, you ended up passing through all the obstacles. I've never seen anyone like you. A hard worker, who takes time out of his job and life to help anyone. You never cared about the money, you only ever cared about the well being of others. Those are all the reasons why you should take my spot."
Haynes was stunned. Speechless. I mean, so was I. That's insane. Haynes, being the boss.
"You have until the end of the month to decide. What ever you choose will be the right decision."
Haynes and I left. We walked back down to the party and didn't say a word about it. I mean how could we talk about it in front of all these people. Half probably wanting the job. Personally, I think he would be crazy not to take it. Then again, I have no idea what goes on in his head. We enjoyed the rest of the party. Pretended like Haynes didn't just get offered a huge job. The partying started to die down, people leaving. Chloe and Joel exchanged social media and Bethany hated every minute of it. She attempted to talk to Lewis, but those 2 had nothing in common. Eventually she dragged Joel home.
"You need any help cleaning up?" Haynes asked his boss.
He shook hid head, "You need to get some rest and think about what I said."
He nodded and the four of us left. We all got back to my apartment and just hung out in the living room watching some RomCom from the 90s. Until we all eventually fell asleep. It was kind of a perfect way to end the night.
