Eventually we all woke up. It was about noon, none of us were going into work today, so it was perfect. Chloe made her special hangover cure smoothie for Haynes and Party Pete. Chloe and I went into my room to get change. The boys just wore what they wore last night. Aka, what they slept in. So, I got I got changed into white skinny jeans with a grey tank top that has a cat face on it, black converse and wore some black rings. Chloe, being the spontaneous and unique person she is, got changed into something marvelous. A comic book theme skirt, pink Pusheen tank top, black converse with little dots of rainbows and bright pink gummy bear earrings.
"People follow your fashion advice." I pointed out.
She nodded, proudly. We walked back into the kitchen. Party Pete and Haynes didn't seem to break anything, which is really great. Especially cause my dad bought me most of the stuff in this apartment. Party Pete got up and walked over to Chloe and I. He had a smug look on his face.
"Waddup, ladies?" He asked putting his arms around us.
Haynes didn't really kind, he actually thought it was funny.
I slipped off his shoulder, "Okay, so, I'm Haynes' girlfriend, Eliza."
"Yeah, he talked about you a lot. At least from what I can remember."
Chloe did the same as me, "So, you go by anything other than Party Pete?"
He nodded, "Pete, when I'm sober."
"Makes sense." She replied.
"I noticed you have a wedding band on. You married?" I asked.
He looked at the ring in confusion, "You know, I wouldn't be surprised."
That's such a vague way to answer it. But like, is he really? Cause let's be real, Gracie would be all over him. She's legal.
"How old are you? You look way younger than Haynes."
"Wow, thanks, Chloe!" Haynes said from the background.
"25."
"Seriously?" Chloe and I are in shock.
He nodded, "I'm pretty smart."
"You're a doctor?" I asked.
"Yup, work at a rehabilitation center. Still get paid a lot."
"Well, money is all that matters, right?" I said sarcastically.
He shook his head, "That's just a bonus."
"How much do you actually party?" Chloe asked.
"Just about every other weekend." He shrugged.
I gave Haynes a concerned look. He didn't notice. But come on, he parties constantly and seems to really like alcohol, maybe he should be the one in rehab. But what do I know? Not a doctor nor am I his best friend. I also just used the word nor, what have I become?
"So, you're my boyfriend's best friend?"
He nodded, "And you're my best friend's girl. When's the wedding?"
I rolled my eyes and walked into the living room. I put the bed away and sat on the couch. Chloe followed me. She decided to text Gracie to make sure she was okay. She was. I also decided to text her, telling her there was a cute boy in my apartment that's not Haynes. She said she would skip school if she could. And I can't deny that Pete is cute. I don't Chloe cam either. The boys sat with us.
"I didn't see a ring on your finger." Pete said to Chloe.
"I have a boyfriend. That I love... A lot."
I raised my hand and said, "I have a boyfriend that I was to have sex with right now."
"I'm in LA for a few days, might as well check it out. I'll back later. You in, Chloe?" Pete asked.
She shrugged, "Beats hearing a squeaky bed."
"Alright, it's not squeaky, chill." I added.
"I mean you're loud. Surprised a neighbor hasn't said anything yet." Haynes had a big smirk.
"Damn, okay."
"We'll meet you two at a coffee shop in San Fran." Haynes added.
Pete and Chloe left. Haynes and I went a few rounds until we were finally done. But I would go a few more times if Haynes didn't want to meet up with Pete. Okay, so how do I feel about that kid? At first, didn't really make a good impression. Kind of felt like a sleaze with that being said, he's pretty nice. I can see he has good intentions. But I am worried about his partying and drinking and I don't even know him too well. Haynes doesn't seem to have a problem with it. But it can't be healthy to constantly party and drink. Actually, I know that's not healthy. Anyways, Haynes and I met up with Chloe and Pete at a coffee shop in San Fransisco. You know the coffee shop right by the hospital. Still Haynes' favorite. We all ordered and took a seat outside. It's a really nice day.
"So, Haynes, you officially moved in with Eliza?" Pete asked.
He nodded going for a sip of his iced coffee.
"What about your roommate, Jared? Didn't you pay for most of the rent? Also how is he?" Pete asked.
I could tell Jaynes was uncomfortable with those questions, "Uh you know, he's good. Probably hanging around somewhere. He was cool with me moving, I think he moved to a better place too. Cheaper rent." He was so awkward answering that.
"You should invite him to chill with us. Sure Eliza would love to meet him."
"I didn't even know his ex roommate had a name." I added.
"He's, um, probably busy or moved to another state, not sure." Haynes added. He look like he was going to vomit. He excused himself. I get to ask him about that later.
"So, what do you know about this Jared guy?" I asked.
"He was a lot older than all of us. A TA, but he was also Haynes' roommate since forever. He kept to himself most of time. When I first met him, he was super depressed, but as years went on, he became happy. It was always nice to see him be more open with our friend group."
"Oh, well that seems pretty normal." Why does Haynes seem so upset about it?
"So, Jared was a pretty normal guy?" Chloe asked.
Pete nodded, "For the most part. There wasn't anything off about him. But he was closet to Haynes."
Chloe and I looked at each other. I'm pretty sure we were both a little concerned. Haynes' shouldn't be upset, unless Jared did something to him or told him something. Maybe that's why he wanted to move in with me so quickly. Him and Jared must've had a fallen out.
"Anyways, how'd you meet him?" Pete questioned.
I didn't want to say that it was a one night and I didn't.
"Oh, we went to a club and it was like a one night stand. She was soooo hungover the next day, that she had to go to the ER and guess who was her doctor!"
Chloe did.
"One night stand? I never thought I would hear the day." He smirked a little.
I looked confused, "But he was so cocky about it."
"He met Samantha while in med school, the first day they met they were dating."
I still looked super confused.
"He was in love with her, you didn't know?"
"No."
"Wait, does he even tell you anything?"
I shook my head, I'm ready to leave.
"Oh," he paused, "I don't think I was suppose to tell you that."
"Why did they break up?" Chloe asked.
She knew I was in my own head space. I wouldn't be talking much anymore.
"It was unclear. Usually when he's drunk he spills all of his secrets, that's the why I know so much about him, but I couldn't get him to say one word about her." Pete added.
Well, guess who's getting Haynes drunk! Haynes finally came back to our table. He didn't look too good. It looked like he was crying and that he vomit. I stopped thinking about his secrets and his ex and got really worried. I just wanted to make sure he was okay.
"You alright, man?" Pete asked.
It looked like Pete seen him like far too many times.
"Yeah, I think I'm getting sick. I could be hungover still." He added.
Pete nodded, he knew that wasn't true. But we all went along with it.
"You wanna head back to the apartment?" I asked.
"Yeah, if you don't mind," Haynes replied, "I'll text you later Pete."
He nodded. We all left. Pete went to the motel he was staying in, Chloe went to her place and Haynes and I went to our place. I was hoping to get him drunk tonight, but that's not happening. Plus, I should be focusing on this funeral. While he's resting, I'll be working out details. I invited Gracie over to help me out. She likes this kind of stuff anyways and I don't want to do this alone.
I texted her, asking if she could come over. She said she was doing homework. Homework? From Gracie? Gracie doing homework? What? Plan b was to invite Lewis. He said he would be over soon. But seriously? Is Gracie really doing homework?
