Chapter 1- Little Jund

It has been a year and a half, a hard one at that. Food is pretty scarce now, expecially for Jund. He is still very little, and only drinks formula. He will sometimes settle for water, but if I need him to shutup so we wont draw attention to ourselves, milk it is. I do worry about him though, vocabulary and movement wise. I usually carry him on my back in this little carrier thing, since we are always on the move. I haven't really had time to just set him down and let him roam. I'm pretty sure he has got crawling down, but walking is still difficult for him. Then with vocabulary, I talk with him a lot, it is just what I say to him. When I curse, I am afraid he will repeat it. I mean what a shitty thing to do. Teach a baby to say Shit or Fuck or Asshole... although that would be hilarious. He calls me "Snake" thank God, I was afraid he would start calling me Dada or something like that. I am NOT his father what so ever, in no way shape or form.

We were holding up in a house in the middle of the woods. Its pretty secluded, and there is a fence around the property, so I think we will be safe for awhile. I want to teach him how to walk, or at least waddle or whatever babies do. When he wakes up from his nap I figure it is the best time to do so. Luckily, he is a quiet baby. He only talks when I talk to him, then he gets going. Most of the words are undefineable, but to be honest very fucking adorable.

I heard a small whimper besides me and look down to see Jund sitting up. He rubbed his eyes and looked up at me. His dark brown eyes stared at me for a moment before he just says "SNAAAAAKE." It is sort of adorable when he does that, but annoying at the same time.

I put down my journal and turn to him," Good morning, Jund."

"Baba," he asked, blinking his eyes. I'm pretty sure he does that on purpose to make him look cuter.

I turn to my other side and grab the blue bag. I grab a bottle, a bottle of water, and soem formula. I pour in one scoop of the powder and fill the water up to three ounces. I shake it then hand it to him. "Say thankyou."

"Tankoo," he replied, snatching the bottle from my hands and putting it in his mouth. It took me a moment to realize that I was his father figure. I was the only person he had. Thats very serious shit. It was like me with my... girlfriend... or Nat with Penny.

I shivered at the thought of them. At least they are in a better place now, probably watching over us. How would I explain that to him though, when he was older. I found your mom and your aunt in a house. I just delivered you, your mom died, then your aunt suicided, so then I just took you with me? How was that going to affect a kid? Hes probably going to be very curious too. He will ask so many weird and awkward questions, that I would have to answer... to a young child... a hundred years younger than me. That is so creepy and weird.

"All done," I heard a small voice say besides me. I turn my head to see the dark haired child hold up the empty bottle with his chubby hand. He was wearing a blue and red striped shirt with grey jeans. I figured the least I could do was give the kid a nice outfit. I take the bottle from him and stuff it back into the bag.

"You want to learn how to walk," I asked. He looked at me for a moment, with a blank expression before uttering the one word that annoyed me to death that he said.

"No," he replied. I took a deep breath, remind myself that he was just a toddler. When I was younger, my older sister was already in college, so I never really had practice with other kids, or taking care of children. Nobody on our street asked my for babysitting. My voice scared most of the kids, and by the time I was foutreen I was pretty intimidating anyway. I was usually inside playing videogames. What I wouldn't do for an xboc or a computer or a ds or ANYTHING right now.

"Yes, you will. You will be a big boy and walk like me," I explained, although he probably didn't understand anything. The same blank expression came onto his face for a moment before uttering the same word..

"No," he repeated crossing his arms.

"It is fun Jund! Don't you wanna be a big boy," I asked.

"No," he repeated," I wanna 'nuggle." He pointed to the carrying thing I had strapped on my back.

"Uh... No! Wouldn't you rather walk with me," I asked, shining a quick smile.

"No."

"Please, Jund?"

"No!"

"Jund. C'mon kiddo," I attempted to convince him.

"NO!NO!NO," he screeched, followed by a fit of giggles. Why that litte fu-... He is just a baby, Snake. Breath, just breath.

"You want a baba," I asked, and idea forming in my head. He nodded his head exitedly, a small smile showing on his face. He showed his few teeth he had. I made a bottle then stood up, walked a few feet a away, and held the bottle just above how tall he was when he stood up. "Come get it."

He blinked a few times, before crawling over to me. When he made it over to me, he sat on his knees and reached upwards. "BABA," he whined, reaching for the bottle.

"Stand up, Jund," I said.

He groaned slightly. He reached his other hand up then looked up at me,"Help?"

I sighed, reaching my large hand down to grab his small chubby one. He grabbed onto my index and middle finger, and i wrapped the rest of my fingers around his hand gently. I pulled him onto his feet. He wobbled slightly, but then got his balance. I let go slowly, making sure he could balance, before walking a few steps backwards. He took a small step, wabbling a bit, before balanceing himself. He held out his arms, then took another shaky step, then another. I smiled at Jund as he waddled his way over to me. When he finally got to me I handed him the bottle. "Good Job Jund!"

~~~
I sighed looking down at the small boy in front of me. He stood just above my waist now. "Yes, Jund?" As a five year old, he was very curious. He constantly asked questions about himself.
"Lacy said I gotta weird name," he said quietly, looking up at me. He had those same dark brown eyes, the color was so soft and delicate.
"Did she now," I asked, squatting down that way he would break his neck looking up at me.
"Yeah. She said you do too. She said Snake is a weird name, that it is only for the animal snake. And that Jund is a weird name too," he replied again. He talked a bit louder now, but his voice was still very high pitched.
"First of all, your real name is Scott. And Yeah, well I think Lacy is a weird name. Do you know what lace is," I asked him. He shook his head no, and gave me a curious look. "Lace is this type of material that is usually on girl clothes. It has flowers and stuff all over it, and it is sort of see through. Only slutty girls wear it. Keep the slutty thing between you and me, but tell her she is named after a clothing material. At least I am named after a really cool animal, and your name is original," I explained. He smiled, showing his surprisingly white teeth, then ran off towards the camp that we were staying at.
It had been awhile since we had found a camp, so I was happy when we found here. They were surrounded by a hoard, trapped in a van at the time. I told Jund to climb a tree, and tell me if any "bad guys" were going to sneak up behind me. He was my lookout, and had to be super duper quiet when I talked to people. He also had to hide, until I said he could come out.
I ended up saving the people. It was a mother with two kids, Lacy and a teenager named Rodger, then four men that were apparently their uncles. I was a bit unsure at first, but after explaining themselves and talked to me, I called Jund down to meet them all.
When Jund walked away, I turned back to hanging up his washed clothes on the towel rack. The mother, Julie, walked up to me and smiled. "Thankyou, for the help and everything. We are so very greateful towards you... and Jund. We feel so much safer around here with you, and now Lacy has someone to play with," she smiled towards me, a general look of happiness on her face.
"I wasn't just going to let you all die in the car. I would've wanted you guys to come save us if it was Jund and I in there. And Jund is happy to have company. Before then, he would always be asking me questions I would rather not answer, so I'm happy he is distracted," I chuckled. She laughed along with me.
"I was wondering about something though," she murmered quietly.
I turned towards her," Ask away." I smiled at her.
"You said you aren't related to Jund, by blood at least. How did you... well find him? End up alone with him," she asked. My smile faded slowly, and I sighed.
"I found his mother and aunt whilst his mother was in labor. I helped deliver him, but his mother died soon after his birth. Then his aunt suicided. I wasn't just going to leave him there," I murmered quietly, making sure to go through the sentence quickly. I didn't want to repeat myself.
"Oh my! Does he know," she asked quietly, turning her gaze towards Lacy and Jund who were running around the yard.
"No. He doesn't even know he had a mom, and I would rather keep it that way, for now at least," I answered back.
"My lips are sealed," she smiled apolagetically, rubbing my shoulder, then turning back and walking off to do something else.
~~~

A couple weeks later I was awoken by somebody shaking my shoulder. I groaned,"What?"

"Snake," the small voice whispered. At recognizing the voice, and the hint of fear in it, I sat up immeadiatly.

In the dark, I could sort of make out the small boy. His face was very close to mine, so I could see that he was scared.

"What is wrong Jund," I asked.

"I-I heard a gunshot, then a scream. Now it is quiet," he whispered. My eyes immeadiatly went wide. I sat up and reached for my shoes, but Jund grabbed my wrist.

"N-No. I dont think it is the bad guys. I think it is other people. I heard strange voices," he whispered.

I sighed. He didn't know that I was immortal, that no matter what I wouldn't die. "Jund, I gotta help them-"

"No! They didn't see us! Please, Snake! Please stay," he whimpered.

"Jund. You gotta be a big boy, I gotta go save them. You stay here, stay quiet," I replied. He looked down and murmered something I couldn't understand. I grabbed his chin, and forced his dark brown eyes to stare into my green ones. "Speak up, Jund."

I saw tears form in his eyes,"I-I am scared. I don't want you to leave me, like my mom and aunt did." He began sobbing slightly, and I quickly pulled him to my chest to muffle it. My eyes widened in shock. That bitch! She said she wouldn't tell.

"I won't leave you. I promise I will be back, I promise," I replied soothingly back. He shook his head into my shirt.

"Stay with me, please. I am tired," he whimpered. I could now feel my shirt was damp under his face, and it was sticking to my skin. I gulped. He had never acted this way before, and plus... he said Stay With Me. That was our song, my girlfriend and I, our song. Those were the last words she spoke. I gulped, and pulled him closer.

"Shhh. It is okay. I'll stay with you. It is okay," I whispered into his ear. I suddenly heard a gunshot, and another scream, making Jund whimper into my shirt, clutching the green fabric even harder than he was before. I rubbed circles into his shoulders, that usually calmed him down when he was upset.

With every scream he seemed to get more terrified. And then, the last scream even got to me. "MAMA! MAMA! MAMA! RODGER! SOMEONE PLEASE! HELP! HEEELLPP! JUND! SNAKE! PLEASE! MAM-" it was suddenly silent. The unmistakable screams of a young girl where gone, all was silent.

Jund was whimpering in my shirt, shaking uncontrollably and sobbing. "Shh. It'll be alright," I whispered comfortingly into his ear.

"Stay with me," he pleaded in between his sobs.

"I will, Jund. I will."
