Run Away

Harry aparated to Godric's Hollow and ran into nearby woods. He was running away from his fears. Or at least he thought he was. Tears formed in his eyes and fell as he ran faster. He found a stump of a tree in an open area and sat down on it. Harry completely broke into tears and covered his face. Ginny found him and saw him crying on the tree stump. Dumbledore walked up next to her and looked at Harry.

"Poor Harry," Dumbledore said. "Have you come up with your decision, Ginny?"
"Dumbledore, I want to return to Harry! I can't see him like this anymore!" Ginny replied.
"Why is that?" Dumbledore asked.
"It's because I love him," Ginny simply answered.
"You don't know why he loves you though," Dumbledore denied.

Ginny looked at Harry and back at Dumbledore. Yea, she thought, Why does he love me? I'm just his best friend's little sister only to make things more awkward between the two.

"Do you remember how you came back to life?" Dumbledore asked.
"No," Ginny sighed.
"Touch your heart," Dumbledore ordered.

Ginny took a quick glance at Dumbledore and slowly, she moved her hand over to her heart and felt a tiny spot of wetness on her shirt. After all this time, it was still wet and on her. It came off on her finger and she smelled it. It had no scent. Water? Then she put it in her mouth. It was a bit salty.

"What is this?" she asked looking down at her shirt.
"It's a tear drop," Dumbledore replied. "Can you guess from who?"
"Harry," Ginny answered.
"This is the tear drop that saved your life," Dumbledore explained again. "It was filled with love. Love saves lives."

Harry left the rock and before Dumbledore and Ginny knew it, it was night time. Ginny watched Harry fall asleep and looked around his room. Dumbledore took a look at his guitar. They took a seat on his bed and talked.

****

Harry awoke the next morning and dressed for work. He took a look at his guitar and brought it with him to work. Harry had an important meeting with his boss. He, and several other Aurors - not including Ron - were chosen to go to this meeting where American Aurors would choose one of them to go to America on a ten-year mission. The mission was dangerous. No one - not even family - would know the chosen Auror's location. They could die. In fact, there was a seventy-five percent chance that the Auror chosen would die. Ginny and Dumbledore followed Harry.

The first thing that he did when he left his home, is go and visit Ginny. He walked into her room with tear-filled eyes and held her hand. He briefly told her about the meeting and then left her. Then he gasped as he checked his watch. Harry aparated and entered his office, he set down his guitar and raced over towards the meeting room. Harry opened the door and walked in. He was a bit late.

"I'm sorry," he apologized. "I had...a family issue."
"Family?" his boss asked.
"Are you crying?" the American Auror head asked.

Harry nervously scanned his eyes around the small room and saw his fellow Aurors.

"Um...well...I wouldn't say family," Harry stuttered. "She's my girlfriend and in St. Mungos. She's in a coma."
"I'm sorry for you, son. Who are you?" the American Auror inquired. "My name is Henry Patterson."
"Oh...nice to meet you Mr. Patterson. I'm Harry...Harry Potter," he replied.
"Oh my gosh!" Henry gasped. "I can't believe it! Nice to see you Harry! You can call me Henry."

Harry nodded and took a seat. The conversation began and then Harry's boss allowed each of them to introduce themselves to Henry. Obviously, Henry was quite impressed with Harry and wanted to choose him. Each of the chosen Aurors were told to leave while Henry made his choice.

While waiting, Harry walked back to his office and grabbed his guitar. He was on his lunch break and decided to go down to the Death Chamber. He recalled the death of Sirius and stood in front of the archway.

"Can he hear us now?" Ginny asked.
"Maybe...that archway is the path to heaven," Dumbledore said.

Harry began to hear voices coming from the archway. As he stepped closer towards the archway, the voices grew louder. It was a melancholy day for Harry. He decided to sit down next to the archway and play a song.

"It's enough, that I know
Our time had a home
In your heart was a place
But the glass always breaks
From the start we were brave
Yet it all seemed amazing

Now I
I wanna know
What it took to leave me
Now I
I wanna know
How would you fall
How would you

Goodbye and it starts to snow
In the streets of Mexico
Goodbye, I am left alone
In the streets of Mexico

Even now as I lay
There's a space you used to take
If I'd have known
What we made
Would be gone like yesterday
I'd have loved
You with grace
I'd have fought the darkness away
All your lies
Showed my way
Now I'm lost between the faces

Goodbye and it starts to snow
In the streets of Mexico
Goodbye, I am left alone
In the streets of Mexico
Goodbye and it starts to snow
In the streets of Mexico
Goodbye, I am left alone
In the streets of Mexico

Goodbye and it starts to snow
In the streets of Mexico
Goodbye, I am left alone
In the streets of Mexico
Goodbye and it starts to snow
In the streets of Mexico
Goodbye, I am left alone
In the streets of Mexico

Goodbye, goodbye
In the streets of Mexico," Harry sang.

Ginny began to break down in tears. Dumbledore comforted her as Harry took another look into the archway. Then, a black paper airplane letter flew in front of him. He opened it and then quickly grabbed his possessions and left. Ginny and Dumbledore didn't follow Harry.

Harry was accepted into the American mission. He received all the information from Henry and would leave in a month. The Aurors in America were being murdered, one-by-one each night by rebellious witches and wizards. There were only about one hundred Aurors remaining and the rebels were being led by an Asian leader - unknown. The Asian leader and Harry were evenly matched and it would take years to find the leader. He was a master of disguise.

Harry invited Hermione and Ron to dinner at a bar and would tell them about his mission.

"So...about Ginny...what would you do if she died?" Hermione asked Ron and Harry.
"I'd feel bloody terrible!" Ron ejaculated. "She may have been a pest when we were little, but she turned out great and deserves a second chance."
"It's been three years," Hermione muttered. "What has she been doing?"

Ginny jumped to the fact that she was gone for three whole years. No wonder her hair was so long in the hospital!

"I don't know...probably fighting like the brave witch she is," Ron smiled. "It's a long hard fight, but it's completely worth it when you wake up and realize you're still living. It's just...she could die so easily."
"The doctors told me - when I was visiting her - that the most weak disease, cold, or flu could kill her," Hermione added.

Everyone slowly ate and didn't look at each other in the eye at all.

"Harry you've been quiet," Ron said. "You invited us here, is there something you want to tell us?"
"Um...yes," Harry admitted. "I was accepted to be in a dangerous mission for ten years in America. It's likely I'll be killed in my sleep, but...the world's in danger again."
"Harry!" Hermione gasped. "Did you accept it?"
"I...haven't yet," Harry replied. "However, I don't think I could deny it."
"Harry that is bloody dangerous! Don't do it!" Ron pleaded.
"Well, I just wanted your opinions before I accept," Harry said.

Hermione dropped her fork on her plate, creating a loud noise, drawing attention to them all.

"So you're going to accept it?" she asked.
"Yea," Harry said as he continued to eat.
"Well...can we at least owl you?" Ron asked.
"No," Harry replied. "Henry, the American head Auror, said that this job is like a suicide mission. No one can know where I am except the Aurors."
"Then I'll become an Auror!" Ron stood up. "I'll fight with you!"
"I can't bring you!" Harry exclaimed. "Henry is going around every country looking for the top Aurors. He chose me for England."

Ron sighed.

"Anyway...Harry...," Hermione said calmly, "what would you do if Ginny died?"

Harry didn't look up, nor did he move. He stopped as a fork was bringing food to his mouth.

"Harry?" Hermione questioned.

He took a deep breath and placed his fork on his plate.

"Look, everyone would be sad, but she means more to me than you guys think!" Harry answered. "If she died, I would never forgive myself."

Silence filled their conversation.

"If she died...," Harry repeated silently.

Hermione looked at Harry as he continued to eat. Ron rolled his eyes. Hermione kicked him from under the table. He jumped and looked at each other. Just then, Ginny and Dumbledore watched them.

"Harry, why do you love my sister so much?" Ron asked randomly.

Ginny rushed over to the table and listened to their conversation closely.

"Ron, she's like my missing link. She stole my heart," Harry said. "I love her because, she loves me for me. She doesn't care if I killed Voldemort. She wouldn't care if I let the whole world down! Her love never wavered. She was always there for me and knew exactly what to say."
"Would you propose to her?" Ron asked immediatly.
"Um...Ron...I really don't know," Harry said. "I haven't talked to her in three years."
"You visit her every day!" Ron shouted.
"Ron...it's just not the same," Harry argued. "What if Hermione was in Ginny's position?"

Ron began to blush. Hermione looked at him and giggled.

"I'd be crazy worried for her," Ron spoke. "She's the person I could go to for advice and she's a wonderful person to be around. I love her as much as my mother. I love her for her smartness...and beauty."
"Aw...Ronald!" Hermione grinned.

They kissed and both looked at Harry. Hermione and Ron pulled away from each other and their cheeks turned bright red. Harry chuckled and they continued to eat.

"I'm going to accept that job," Harry said.
"Harry, don't!" Hermione shouted.
"Hermione, we can't stop him," Ron muttered. "If Harry wants to take the job then he should. Besides, he is the chosen one!"

Ginny turned towards Dumbledore.

"Dumbledore!" she exclaimed. "Harry just said why he loves me!"
"So you know?" Dumbledore asked.
"Yes! Now, I can finally return!" Ginny shouted happily.
"Actually, this is only one part," Dumbledore explained. "The next part is finding the strength to awake."
"How do I do that?" Ginny asked.
"You can't. It just depends on fate," Dumbledore answered. "Anyway, you know you want to return. The will of you is strong, so I think you will live. I'll be going now."
"Thank you Dumbledore!" Ginny smiled.

Dumbledore flew up into the heavens as Ginny's smile began to fade. Fate. The odds never favored her, not once! However, she had to try with every ounce of strength, love, and energy she had left.

Hermione and Ron watched Harry leave the restaurant. Ron continued to eat and Hermione watched the seat Harry was sitting in. Hermione looked over at her boyfriend and gave him a light punch in the arm because he was still eating. He jumped and put his fork down.

"What was that for?" he asked.
"Ron, it's your best friend! You're not going to talk to him about Ginny?" Hermione told him.
"I don't want to upset him," Ron admitted. "You know I'm not good at talking about that stuff!"
"I'm just worried about him," Hermione muttered. "He's been distant and more silent than usual since Ginny fell into that coma. He's madly in love with her. I think he needs someone to talk to."
"I'll talk to him," Ron promised. "By the way, I bet fifteen galleons that the enemy Harry fights is a guy."
"What?" Hermione questioned. "Why did we jump on the subject of what gender Harry's new enemy is?"
"I don't know," Ron replied. "What will you give me if I win."
"How about a nice romantic meal?" Hermione suggested.

Ron shrugged and they shook on it.

Harry returned to the Ministry of Magic and walked down to the Death Chamber. He walked up to the archway and stood directly in front of it. He looked straight into the swirling white light. They began to swirl in an odd pattern and two white figures were projected onto the tall rocks around the archway. Harry looked the two figures and gasped.

"Mom?" he asked. "Dad?"

The two figures were, indeed, his parents.

"I...I can't believe you're here," Harry stared.
"Harry," his father began, "the mission given to you today is dangerous. Are you sure you want to accept it?"
"Dad...I know it seems risky, but it's my job as an Auror to protect the world whenever I'm needed," Harry said. "I know what I'm up against."
"Sweet heart," Harry's mother looked at him, "I know you think it's nothing, but this enemy you're up against is going to be tough to beat."
"I think I can handle it," Harry assured them.
"Alright," his father smiled. "I know you'll succeed."

Harry sat near the archway and looked up at his parents.

"Why are you here?" he asked.
"We just wanted to make sure you wanted to do that mission," his mother told him.
"Son," his father muttered, "we're not just here to talk to you about that."

Harry, who was looking at his shoes, returned his focus to his father.

"It's about Ginny, isn't it?" Harry asked.
"Yes," his mother sighed.
"I don't want to talk about it," Harry stood up.
"We just thought you wanted to say something to get it off your chest," his father shrugged.
"If I could...I would marry her," Harry said.
"Really?" his mother questioned.

Harry laughed silently at himself and nodded.

"It's stupid," Harry murmured.
"Honey, I'm sure she'll wake up and you guys can marry each other!" his mother smiled.

Harry never got to see that smile. It made him grin with relief.

"I'm glad you guys are here," Harry told them.
"We love you," they both said in unison as they began to disappear into the archway.
"I love you guys," Harry smiled.

After his parents said goodbye, then he returned home and fell asleep. He had positive feelings in him.
