CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Kara had such a great time with Adam last night. She got to know him so well. She feels like she has known Adam her whole life. Its weird how you can feel you know a person since forever when you've know them for a couple of weeks.
She really liked sleeping with him.
Last night was the first night she has slept so good for a long couple of months, because since Austin moved to Spain she couldn't sleep well, she was always worry she'll get a call in the middle of the night.
But last night she slept like a baby, she had none worries and she was next to Adam and that felt good. She always feels so secure when she is with him. She loves feeling secure around him.
She woke up at seven and Adam woke up too minutes later than her. He made her breakfast, and they talked a little while and then she drove to her house.
She was already at the door of her house at eight-thirty.
She opens the door and goes to the kitchen to grab a glass of water when she sees her mother sitting in the table drinking a cup of coffee.
"Mike said you would be home early. I was waiting for you." her mother says when she sees Kara.
She nods and says "Well here I am."
"Sit." her mother says pointing at the chair next to her and continues "We need to talk about yesterday."
Kara crosses her arms and says "I told you everything I had to say."
"Kara please, sit." her mother says sounding much serious and Kara sits down and waits for her mother to talk.
Margaret takes a deep breath and looks at Kara and says "I think you owe me an apology for your behavior yesterday." Kara sighs and says "Are you being serious right now? You think I owe you an apology?"
       "That's what I said, yes."
"God mom, you're unbelievable!" she says screaming and standing up.
"Watch your tone with me young lady." her mother says in a soft tone still sitting.
She rolls her eyes and says sarcastically "Oh I'm sorry mom I don't want to wake the neighbors and arm a scandal."
"Can you stop being so sarcastic all the time? I didn't raise you like that."
"Exactly, you didn't raise me!!! At all." she says frustrated.
Her mother sides and she slightly shakes her head and says "You're so melodramatic Kara."
"I am melodramatic? You're the one that armed a show yesterday because I brought MY boyfriend to the party."
"It wasn't the fact you brought him there, it was that you knew Anna was coming and you put her in an uncomfortable yesterday." her mother says still in a calm voice.
"Well, when she met Adam she wasn't uncomfortable. She was happy for me, you know." she informs her mother.
"She was just being nice, but she was uncomfortable. Anyone in her situation would have been uncomfortable, no one likes seeing the girl your son dated dating someone else."
"Yeah but when that son is dead the situation is different."
"So you no longer care that Austin is dead?" her mother asks.
Kara eyes opened so much that her eyebrows where almost on her headline "For. God. Sakes. Mom of course I care. Austin was my best friend since I was a baby, I loved him. But not because of that I will not date other people."
"And I'm not saying you shouldn't, just not in front of Anna."
"Anna didn't care!! The one that care was you!! You were the one that perform a show." she screams again frustrated and then Margaret stands up and says "I performed none show, I wanted to talk to you and you were the one that went out of the party like a crazy person."
"You know what? I don't feel like continuing a discussion that makes little sense." she says and walks out of the kitchen and when she's in the living room she sees her father standing there and he asks "What's with all the screaming?"
"Your daughter is creating a scandal... again." Margaret says walking toward them.
Kara turns her head to see her mother and says "I'm not creating such a thing!"
"Kara calm down and don't talk to your mother like that." her father says.
"Like what? With the true? Because that's how I'm talking to her." she says to her father angry.
"I'm not allowing you to act so disrespectful to your mother." his father says in a calm tone.
She sighs and shakes her head. She can't believe this "What is up with everyone? That thinks that I am the one being disrespectful."
"What are you talking about now?" Joseph asks confuse.
"Oh he doesn't know?" Kara asks to her mother who is now standing next to his father and Margaret shakes her head.
Kara turns his head to his father and explain to him "Oh well, the reason I went out of the party yesterday and didn't come home was because mom said that I was being disrespectful bringing Adam to the party."
"Wait, you left the party? And you didn't come home? Where were you? And who is Adam?"
'This is... ugh!!! I don't believe it.' Kara things when she hears his father's questions.
Now she's frustrated "Oh you're worse than her. You didn't notice I didn't sleep here?"
"Your bedroom door was close, and I thought you were inside like you've been all summer." he explains.
"Well, I wasn't dad." she says feeling angry, frustrated and sad, all at the same time.
"Where were you?" her father asks
       "At Adam's house."
       "Who's Adam?"
"My boyfriend dad, Adam is my freaking boyfriend." she says screaming again.
"Since when do you've have a boyfriend? And who gave you permission to stay with him?" now Joseph is mad too.
"Unbelievable! You two are unbelievable!!!" she walks away from her parents.
'I can't take this anymore. Him not noticing I wasn't here is too much. I could've been killed or raped or God knows what and he thought I was on my bedroom.' she was about to walk out of the house when she hears her mother screaming "Don't turn your back on us young lady."
"What do you want me to say?" Kara asks now more sad than mad.
"Why didn't I know you had a boyfriend?" his father asks hurt.
"Because you're never here... neither of you are!" she screams again but her father shakes his head in disagreement and says "That's not a good reason. I'm your father and I need to know these things about you."
"You're like mom seriously! You can't act like my father whenever the hell you want too." 'There I said it. I've never talked to my parents like this. But I can't handle it anymore.'
"Kara Alexis Morgan! Watch your language." Joseph says half-screaming and in a serious tone.
"I don't like how that boy is changing you." her mother says, and that made Kara angrier because she said again 'that boy' like Adam is disgusting
"HIS. NAME. IS. ADAM! It's easy to say or learn mom! And he is not changing me."
"Don't yell at your mother again Kara." her father warns her.
"He is. See how you're behaving. I told you he wasn't right for you." Margaret says.
"You know nothing about him so you don't have an opinion! He has been the only person who has understood what I've been going thru! He cares about me! He's is the one that's helping me re-do my life! So don't say he isn't right for me because he is." she says frustrated. She can't believe that her parents are like this. She has her eyes flooded with tears but she will not let them out.
"You're talking non-sense. You don't know him well enough." her mother points out.
"I know what I need to know about him!" Kara argues.
"I don't think you're right." her mother says in a tone like she knows something that Kara doesn't.
"I don't give a fuck of what you think." she says out loud.
"Enough! You're grounded." her father says angry and Kara rolls her eyes and she's about to say something when they all see Jenna coming down the stairs and she asks "What's going on here?"
"We're just discussing with your sister. Nothing to worry about." her mother says
Jenna ignores her mother and gets down and she sees that Kara is red and about to cry so she says "Nothing to worry about? I don't think so."
"Jenna, go to your room." her father orders but she ignores him and turns her head to see Kara and asks her whispering "Kara are you okay?"
"Jenna, I said go to your room." her father says again.
"I'm not going anywhere without knowing if Kara is okay." she yells at her father and she turns back to Kara again and she grabs her arms and says "Kara?"
"I'm... I don't want to be here anymore." Kara says frustrated.
"You're not going anywhere. You're grounded." her father says at them.
"Grounded? Why is she grounded?" Jenna asks surprise because her parents have never grounded Kara.
"For being rude to your mother and me." his father explains but Jenna knows that there is more of the story than that so she asks "And what did you tell her?"
"Nothing she doesn't need to know." Margaret says.
Jenna sighs and says "C'mon please. Kara is the saint one of this family and I've never seen her upset like this." she points at Kara and looks back at her parents "So you had to tell her something."
"We didn't tell her anything. It is that guy she's dating that is changing her." her mother explains.
"You mean Adam?" Margaret nods "Is what this is about? About you don't liking who she's dating?" she asks and Margaret nods and says "Yes."
"I didn't even know that she was dating someone until a few minutes ago." her father says again frustrated and Jenna lets out a small laugh and asks him "Yeah, and whose fault is that?"
"Excuse me." his father says shock.
"C'mon dad, you're not here with her. You weren't here when Mike and I lived here neither. What were you expecting? I had lots of boyfriends you never knew about." Jenna admitted and her father is again surprise in hearing this "You did?" he asks hurt.
"Yes. It wasn't my fault you weren't in my life." Jenna says.
"I was." he objects and Jenna rolls her eyes and says "Being on my birthday and Christmas doesn't counts as being in my life."
"I was when your alcohol problem got worse." he points out and that made Jenna angry "Yeah you were, but because you didn't want the press to catch me so your name wouldn't be affected."
"That's not true." his father objects again but Jenna sighs and says "Please, you know it is."
"We're not talking about you now. We are talking about your sister." Margaret says pointing at Kara.
"Kara is fine now mom. Let her be happy with however she wants to be. I hadn't seen her this happy since a long while... and you know what? Adam is changing her, but for good." Jenna says but her mother shakes her head "How would you know if all the guys you've dated where a disaster."
"I can't believe you! How many boyfriends of mine have you know?" she asks her now even angrier than before.
"The enough amount to know that you have a horrible taste in men."
"You have met none of my boyfriends!" she points out.
"Not personally." Margaret whispers loud enough for everyone to hear her.
"What does that suppose to mean?" Jenna asks confuse.
"It means that when you were dating someone I checked who he was." her mother explains.
"So you spied on me?" Jenna asks screaming.
"I was just trying to protect you." her mother says trying to defend her case.
"Wait, have you searched Adam?" Kara asks now worry, because if she spied on Adam she knows everything about his past.
"Yes Kara I've." she admits and then explains "That's why I'm telling you he isn't right for you. That guy has some messy life you don't need to know about."
That explains her mother's behavior toward Adam. But she still cannot believe that she's capable of doing something like that "You... Oh. My. God... you know what? I know everything about his messy life and I don't care."
"I don't think you know it." her mother says but Kara shakes her head because this time her mother is wrong she knows everything.
"I know everything mom. I know about his father's job and I know what that caused. And I don't care."
"Then I've to say you've got an even terrible taste than your sister."
"Not mom I don't have a terrible taste. Because the past of someone makes them who they're in the present but it doesn't defines that person. And Adam's past made him the caring and strong person he's now."
Her mother sighs and says sarcastically "Yeah right."
"Yes mom. It's like how Austin's death made me stronger. Same thing."
"You can't compare your life with his." she says, but Kara protest saying "You know I can! Because we both lost the person we loved the most and we both have crappy parents!!" one tear comes out of her eyes and she wipes it out fast before anyone could notice it.
"Hey, hey, what's going on in here?" Mike says coming toward to his sisters.
"Mom and dad say that Adam is bad for Kara and FYI mom has spied the past of all of our boyfriends so she has probably done that with your girlfriends." Jenna explains to Mike.
"Wait what? Mom, have you spied on my girlfriends?" he asks shock.
Margaret slightly nods and then she explains "I do it to protect you."
"Did you do it with Annabel?" he asks worry and she nods again and says "I did and I think we have to talk about her."
"We will not do such a thing! It's her private life and you have no right to spy on her... or any of my girlfriends or Jenna's or Kara's boyfriends." he says and now he's the one screaming.
"I'm just trying to protect all of you from crazy people." she explains trying to calm Mike down, but she made it worse.
"No, you're trying to protect the family name!" Jenna screams at her mother
"We're going." Mike says grabbing both of her sister's arms.
"Neither of you can leave until we all talk." Joseph says but Mike sighs and says "I think we said what we needed to say." he opens the door and lets her sisters go out first and then he closes the door behind him.
"Where are we going?" Kara asks.
"Just... let's go your car." the both of them nods and Kara gives the keys to Mike so he can drive and they enter to her car.
"I'm hungry. Do you girls want to eat something?" he asks.
       "I already ate with Adam."
"I'm still on my PJs." Jenna protests
       "We'll order something to go."
       "Yeah, all right."
       Mike drives.

...

Mike and Jenna were eating their donuts on the car.
None of them has said a word since they left the house. But the three of them were angry. You could feel the tension in the car.
When Mike finishes up his donut he turns his head to the co-driver's seat and asks Jenna "How did the discussion started?" Jenna shrugs and Kara says "Mom was waiting for me in the kitchen and said that I owed her an apology because of what happened yesterday."
"And what happened yesterday?" Jenna asks.
"She said that I was disrespectful because I brought Adam when I knew Anna was coming." she explains them.
"But Anna didn't mind didn't she?" Jenna asks.
Kara shakes her head and says "No. Not at all, she told me she was glad for me. It was mom that wasn't comfortable with Adam there and she was using Anna as an excuse."
"Why wasn't she comfortable? Why doesn't she like Adam?" Jenna asks confuse.
She knows why her mother doesn't like Adam 'Because of his past, but my brothers can't know about that. It's Adam's private life, and it's not my place to tell them' so she lies to them by saying "I... I don't know."
Mike looks at Kara for a while and he knows she's lying so he says "There is something you aren't telling."
"I-I... just... maybe she found out something about Adam's past she didn't like."
"I cannot believe that she spied on every person we dated." Jenna says irritated.
Kara sighs and says "Me neither. When you think she can't do anything more to surprise us... she proves us wrong."
"So, then what happened?" Mike asks Kara.
"After she said that I owed her an excuse I exploded and then dad came and I found out he didn't know that I didn't sleep in the house and I lost it and then Jenna came and then you... and here we are."
"He didn't notice you weren't at home?" Mike asks not believing that his father will be so clueless.
Kara rolls her eyes and says "Nope, he said that since my bedroom door was closed he guessed that I was there."
"That's... God he's an idiot." Jenna says frustrated "Tell me about it." Kara says frustrated too.
"I don't believe this." Mike says in denial.
       "What part?" Kara asks sarcastically.
"Everything... that dad didn't know you were home yesterday was something, but that mom research the life Anna... of Adam... of everyone we've dated is beyond madness."
"I don't even know what to say to her." Jenna says and neither of them knows what they might tell to their mother. But Kara isn't thinking about what she will tell to her mother. She's thinking how she will tell Adam that her mother knows about his father and his mother's death.
"I don't know how I will explain it to Adam." Kara says thinking out loud
Mike nods and says "Me neither. Anna is going to freak out. She knew my family was crazy, but this... this is something that goes beyond craziness."
"I thought I could handle coming here again. Seeing them again, but I can't. It's still too much. They haven't change." Jenna admits.
"I don't think they'll ever will." Kara says and tears come out of Jenna's eyes "Dad yesterday came to talk... he knows that I came home drunk. I don't know how but he does. He's saying I should come back home and life with them again so they can see where I'm all the time. It's like a déjà vu."
       "What?" Mike says speechless.
"Yeah, he also told me he hadn't told mom yet because when he does, it will be to send me to rehab again."
They were in silence for a while because they didn't know what to say to Jenna.
Last time she went to rehab things in their house got weird. Their parents didn't talk to Jenna when she came back. They ignored her existence like she was just some kind of estrange species, so Jenna moved to New York with Mike.
Kara finally talks and says "I don't even know what to tell you Jenna. You will not move back with them right?"
"Of course not, I was planning on going back to New York tomorrow... I will not tell them, but I thought you guys should know."
"Wow, I-I don't even know what to tell you." Kara says speechless she knows that's the best thing for her sister to do because is she stays they'll send her back to rehab anyway.
"Will you be okay if I go?" Jenna asks worry and Kara nods and says "Of course I'll."
"That's good to know, because you know that I'll never leave you if you weren't okay with it right?" She says still worry about her sister. She knows that with all of what has been happening... staying alone in their house should be a little difficult.
"I know Jenna and I love you for that, but you've to go." Kara reassures her.
Jenna nods at her and then turns her head to Mike who's awfully quite and asks him "Are you going to be okay?"
Mike nods at Jenna and says "Yeah... I still will see you in New York-." he shakes his head and then he says frustrated "I was just thinking about Anna and mom... this whole situation is crazy."
"I know and when you tell Anna she will not want to know anything about our family and I mean... who wants that really?" Jenna says and Mike shrugs and shakes his head not knowing what else to say.
The only thing is crossing in Kara's mind is Adam. She doesn't knows how he will react when she tells him that her mother knows everything about his past and that she doesn't likes him at all... 'That shouldn't be a problem right?' she thinks. Her mother's opinion about Adam shouldn't worry her. The only opinion that she should worry are her brother's opinion.
And now that she thinks about it, she never had time to ask them how they felt about Adam. So without even thinking it twice she asks "So I know this is bad timing but what did you guys thought of Adam?"
"He's really nice and handsome too." Jenna says and Kara looks at Mike waiting for an answer and then he says "He has an incredible taste in basket and besides he ran over like a crazy person when he saw you were going out of the party, so that means he cares about you and I like that." she gives both of them a smile. That she has both of her brother's approval is amazing.
"What did you thought of Anna?"Mike asks Kara.
"Well, she seemed to like you and she's your first girlfriend I actually like how she dresses, so I like her." Kara says, and he laughs.
"What are we going to do about our loving parents?" Jenna asks worry.
"I cannot handle them right now. So I'll just go out with Anna and tell her everything. What about you?" Mike asks Jenna.
"I cannot see them now neither. I'm planning on avoiding them and then tomorrow I'll leave them a note saying I'm gone... so I'll go out with some friends. You?"
"I'm tired. I'll drop you off to your dates and then go home hopping they aren't there."
"You're tired... you didn't get sleep last night huh?" Jenna asks curious but Mike shakes his head in discuss and says "Jenna please I'm here!"
"No is fine-." Kara says laughing and then she explains "We stayed-up late talking... nothing else."
"I don't even want to keep this conversation. So please let's stop it." Mike says and they both nod laughing.
