1.6~ Last Date
Yep that's right. Our last date.
Grabbing my clutch purse, I head out the door wearing the dress that I wore on our first date.
There was a dance going on at an indoor basket ball court called 'The Last Days Of Summer Dance'. I was Max's date.
I saw Max pull up onto the drive way. His smile wasn't as big as it used to be, but it was there.
"That's the dress you wore on our first date isn't it?" He smirks and looks up at me.
"Awe you were paying attention!" I giggled. I hopped into the passenger seat and Max put the car in reverse. Then he backed out of the drive way and drove off.
We reached the basketball court and Max parked around back.
"Max?-" I say. "-You do know this is our last date right?" I saw Max purse his lips and take a deep breath.
"As much as it pains me to admit it, yes I do know that this is our last date." He then got out of the car and came around to open the car door for me.
We walked around to the front of the court and walked in. I saw teenage couples, middle aged couples and even elderly couples dancing to a slow song.
As soon as Max and I walked in, he grabbed my waist and I grabbed his shoulders.
"Every second counts." He whispered into my ear. I smiled and closed my eyes.
After a while the slow song ended and then a real poppy song came on that I didn't recognize.
"I'll get us some punch." He said as he walked over to the concession.
I looked over to my right and saw and elderly couple dancing. I smiled.
Then the elderly man walked up to me and looked over at Max who was in line for the punch.
"Is he yours?" He asked.
"Yeah." I smile.
"Nice hair." He says with a faint New Jersey accent. He smiles.
"With a great personality." I say.
"Oh yeah? Well I don't doubt a girl like you. Your special and you got smarts." He smiles and rubs my shoulder.
"Thanks." I say.
"This little lady over here is mine." He points to an old lady over to the left of us who is waving her hands in the air. It was sad because she wasn't moving very fast but she sure seemed to be enjoying herself.
"She looks like a lovely person." I smile and wave my hand. She waves back.
"Oh she sure is." He chuckles.
"He's not gonna be mine for very long." I say as I look over in Max's direction.
"Oh why ever not?" He asks.
"He's going to medical school in Dublin." I say.
"Oh well that's too bad. But that's a very good career." He says.
It is a very good career. But it still doesn't change a thing.
"Yeah I know." I sigh and turn back to him.
"My names, Tom." He says and sticks out his hand.
"Sugar." I say as I shake hands with Tom.
"Your name matches your personality dear." He smiles.
"Why thank you, Tom!" I say.
"Well I'm glad I got to meet you Sugar."
"I'm glad I got to meet you too." I say.
"I got the punch." Max came back holding to plastic cups in his hands.
"Thank you, Max." I take a cup from his hand and take a sip.
"Oh, Max this is, Tom. Tom this is, Max."
Tom sticks his hand out and Max does too.
"Pleasure to meet you, Max!" Tom says.
"Pleasure to meet you too." Max says.
"Let me tell you something, son. Hold on to this one as long as you can. She's a keeper." Tom smiles and pats him on the shoulder.
"Yeah. I know." Max smiles.
Tom walked off and went to join his wife. He put an arm around her shoulder and she leaned into him. A smile spread across my face.
"You wanna dance?" Max asked.
I turn to face him and nod. "I'd love be to dance, Max." I smile and take his hand.
We dance for a little bit when I recognize a familiar face in the crowd. It was Lillian! And she wasn't with Alex. She was dancing with someone who looked a little more sophisticated.
She must have seen me too because she waved and mouthed "hi" to me. Her eyes were wide and she pointed to her date. I nodded and gave her the thumbs up.
I turned back to Max who was looking at me longingly.
All of a sudden Max leaned in and I did to and before we knew it, we were kissing. I felt a spot light on us and then people were cheering.
We broke our kiss and I looked around to see that Tom and his wife were smiling and clapping.
I smiled at them. I then saw Lillian who smiled and was clapping as well. Everyone was clapping for one little kiss.
I heard the DJ say.
"Everyone make a circle and let these lovebirds dance in the middle!" Everyone made a circle and we were left to slow dance in the middle.
I looked up at Max who had a huge smile on his face. Max pulled me in closer. I rested my head on his chest and enjoyed the moment.
This may have been our last date, but it was one of the best.
