0.4~ Lunch With Lillian
That night, after my meltdown, I remembered something. I was supposed to meet Lillian at Scoopz today. Of course it wouldn't happen anyway.
I quickly grab my phone a call Lillian.
Ring...Ring...Ring... ... ...Ring...Ring...Ring.
I hear Lillian's voice answer her phone.
"Hello?"
"Lillian! I'm so sorry about lunch!" I said.
"Oh, Sugar it's ok. We can do it another time. Plus I didn't even show up at the beach because of the storm that was coming. I assumed you didn't either."
"Yeah I stayed home too-" I lied because I didn't want to get into the whole spiel about me getting wiped out by a wave. "-I didn't want to risk it."
"Ok good! I was worried you were going to go out there." She said. I blushed because that was kind of a dumb thing to do. I should have known a storm was coming.
"So let's reschedule. How about tomorrow?" I suggest.
Lillian pauses for a second and then she replies.
"Sounds good. Around noon?" She asks.
"Sure." I say and smile.
"See you then!" She squeals.
Then we hang up, and I smile at the thought of seeing Lillian for the first time since Max went to Medical school. I wince at the thought of his oh so perfect name. Clear your mind. I tell myself.
The next day, at 11:56, I decide to head over to the beach. I drive there because it literally takes me one minute to do it that way.
I walk onto the beach where I see Lillian sitting on a bar stool at Scoopz, waving for me to come over.
I wave back and run to the restaurant.
"Hey I haven't seen you in forever!" I scream once I reach her.
"I know me neither! I've missed you so much!" Lillian pulls me into a hug.
"So how are things?" I ask.
"Well I sent an application letter to a college in NYC months ago but I haven't gotten a reply yet so my hopes are lowered for that one. But I did apply for a local college here!"
"I'm going to a local college too! Maybe it's the same one." I say.
"But do you think they'll let you in since the school year has already started?" I ask.
"Well they better because I've been waiting for the longest time to know!" Lillian laughs.
It was funny, even throughout our disagreements and our fights over Max, it was as if none of that ever happened and we were just old friends.
"So how's, Max?" She asks me.
How's Max? Why would she ask that? Why would she think we'd keep in touch? Was it because of our history? Maybe she thought we'd have a long distance relationship? I don't know.
"What do you mean?" I say a little more harshly then I meant to.
"Well I thought you would still talk to him since you knew each other..."fairly" well."
"Well FYI, Lillian, I haven't talked to, Max in two years. I don't think I'll talk to him anytime soon."
"Sorry I was just asking." She holds her hands up defensively and looks away.
I felt bad because I didn't mean to act hostile. I just hadn't heard Max's name in a long while and it kind of hurt to hear his name, knowing that he's a thousand miles away.
"No I'm sorry, Lillian." I say.
"It's ok." She replies with a smile.
"So how do you think Max is doing though." Lillian asks.
"Oh he's probably found some girl who just doesn't know how lucky she is." I roll my eyes and sigh at the thought of Max kissing another girl. I feel guilty because Jared is in my life now and I love him, not Max.
