──DAHLIA SIGHED as she walked up to the familiar house that she had not stepped inside for just over two months now. she held tightly onto the handle of the gift bag in her hand, the girl lifting up her hand to the door.

her hand was gazing over the door, dahlia about to knock on the said door, when it opened before her- revealing the owner of the house.

"hey." daniel said with a smile on his face, the boy leaning his head against the door frame as he looked at dahlia stood before him.

"happy birthday dani." she announced, his smile increasing as he pulled the girl into a hug. dahlia was shocked at first, that being the reason why daniel felt the girl stiffen up in his arms- but that quickly disappeared as she wrapped her arms around him, the blonde boy feeling the gift bag hitting his back as it was still in dahlia's hand.

"i didn't think you would come."

"don't be stupid daniel- it's your birthday, i wouldn't miss it for the world." dahlia responded as she pulled away, the two exes faces inches away from one another.

dahlia looked up into daniels eyes, the girl wanting to fall in love with them all over again, but she couldn't. dahlia pulled away from daniel, the girl letting out an awkward cough as daniel fidgeted in his spot, before ushering the girl into the house.

"am i early?" dahlia asked as she only heard the voices of corbyn and alexandra- that making dahlia believe she was in fact early- that being a rare occurrence.

"y-yeah i guess you sort of are- that's a first." daniel joked, as he closed the door behind dahlia, him turning around to see a smile on her face as she held out the gift bag in her hand.

"that for me?"

"no daniel- it's for jack, i thought i would bring it to him on your birthday- cause I'm that horrible." dahlia responded in a monotone voice, daniel shaking his head as he grabbed the gift bag out of her hand.

"you didn't have to you know." daniel muttered as he took a peek into the bag, hoping to see a sneak peak of what the girl had gotten him- but he couldn't. dahlia had made sure to wrap every little thing in the gift bag, knowing daniel liked it snoop around it, and to be extra, dahlia put confetti on top of the wrapped presents, completely hiding the contents of the bag.

"daniel who is it?" corbyn shouted from the boys living room, dahlia giving daniel one last smile before leaving him to go see her best friends sat on the sofa.

"oh great it's you." corbyn muttered, dahlia giving him the middle finger- that bringing the infamous smile onto corbyn's face, alexandra wiggling her eyebrows at her best friend.

"it's great to see you corbyn." dahlia said, corbyn shaking his head at the brunette girls sarcastic words. daniel came into the room, the blonde boy placing his gift bag from dahlia next to the wrapped presents of which dahlia assumed were from corbyn and dahlia.

the two exes took their seats next to one another on  daniel's sofa, the blonde boy feeling the nerves in his stomach, wiping his hands on his jeans as he smiled at dahlia.

the girl returned the smile, dahlia noticing daniels anxious behaviour, so dahlia did what she did best,

she grabbed ahold of daniels hand, giving it a quick squeeze before letting it go.

corbyn and alexandra exchanged glances, smirks on their faces as they tapped one another's glasses, before taking a sip of their respected drinks.

daniel smiled at dahlia, him about to speak to his ex-girlfriend when he had to get up to answer the door, the voices of zach and francesca bickering between one another being heard by the four sat in daniels living room.

"i thought you two had finished hating one another and were happily together?" dahlia shouted to the two youngest members of the group as they walked into the room, joining dahlia, corbyn and alexandra.

"oh no- no matter what, fran will still say that she hates me when she clearly doesn't." zach commented, francesca sticking her tongue out her boyfriend as she give him the middle finger- that being a common thing the two did to one another.

"where's em and jack- and even jo and kay for that matter?" fran asked the group, all of them exchanging looks before each shrugging their shoulders in response.

"oh- speak of the devils." daniel spoke as the voices of the four remaining members of the group were heard talking and the familiar sounds of jonah and jacks laughs also being heard.

dahlia excused herself from the group, the girl asking daniel if she could get herself a drink, the blonde boy calling his ex-girlfriend stupid as she was allowed to get whatever she wanted- daniel accidentally letting out the words

'it's your home too.'

dahlia smiled, the girl frowning at his words once she was no longer looking at daniel as she was in the kitchen.

"let's get this party started!" dahlia heard kayla shout, a range of cheers shouted as the four that had appeared last wished daniel a happy birthday.

"how you been holding up?" dahlia jumped as she told around, the girl holding a can of coke as she saw jonah leaning his body against the wall, a smile on his face as he looked at the girl.

"good- really jonah, I'm doing good." dahlia answered, the girl insisting she was okay after seeing a little drop of doubt on his face.

"that's good- you know when i told daniel that you were coming, he was surprised- yet very happy i must add. how are you two doing anyway?" jonah spoke once more as he walked towards dahlia, taking the seat next to dahlia that she had just taken herself.

"yeah he said that he didn't think i would turn up- which is beyond stupid as he knows i would never miss his birthday. even though things have changed, he's still somewhat important to me you know?" jonah smiled as he nodded his head to dahlia's words, the oldest boy of the group glad that dahlia was and had been acting all grown up over the situation- as she could easily have made daniel feel guilty over the situation, but she didn't.

as that wasn't the person dahlia was.

"do you reckon you two will give it another shot?" jonah asked, him watching dahlia's facial expressions to see if that would give any hints to the brunette boy as he awaited an answer from the girl.

"to be honest jo- i don't know. all i know is that i want to forgot about relationships and all of that- i can't speak on behalf of dani but mine and his friendship is the most important thing right now." the girl said as she leaned her head on jonah's shoulder as she took a sip of her drink.

"that's fair enough lia, but hey- let's have fun celebrating daniels birthday and if anything were to happen between you two tonight, well i guess that's what is meant to be." dahlia leaned her head off the oldest boys shoulder, him sending her an over exaggerated wink, that making the girl laugh as she gave him a shove before getting up from the chair.

"what i was stating the truth!" jonah exclaimed as he followed dahlia's actions, the two making their way back to the group that were stood around in the living room.

"sure jo- i guess you're right. anything can happen- and i guess we'll just have to wait and see."
