Chapter 25 - A Figure From The Past
"Has he woken up yet?" Said a man. He had a deep voice, distant and distorted to Jack's barley conscious ears.
"No, not yet, but he's in for a suprise when he does wake up." Said another man, with a slightly higher voice.
"Can we afford to let him leave?" Asked the first man.
"No, too risky. Besides, someone could find him. He has to stay here until we're finished." The second man sighed. "Is he even alive?" The second man reached over to Jack's wrist to take a pulse, when Jack jumped up, still groggy and unaware of his surroundings, flailing his arms in a vain attempt to land a punch. Miraculously, he did, knocking the second man back.
Jack ran to the door, bursting through it into the street. It was nighttime, and there was almost nothing in sight. Sudden, a pair of small hand covered his mouth and dragged him back inside. He tried to get away, but their grip was just barley strong enough. Once they were back inside the building, the two men from before grabbed him and held him back, while the third slammed the door.
"Let go of me!" He struggled against their grip, as they sat him in a chair. They held him down, trying to get him to stop squirming.
Suddenly, Jack felt a harsh slap against his face, shocking him into scilence. The first man stood in front of him. "Jesus Jack, look at me!"
Finally taking a second to actually look at his abductors, he finally figured it out.
"Mark?" The hands on his shoulders released their grip. Jack looked behind him. "Wait a second, Stephanie? Nate?"
"You done?" Nate joked.
"I thought you two-"
"Died? Yeah, I faked that." Stephanie explained.
"W-what happened? Matt and I had almost escaped when..."
Stephanie inturupted him. "Wait, what did you say?"
"Matt and I had almost escaped?" Jack guessed.
Stephanie could barley breathe. It was true. Matt was still alive. Tiny tears of joy sprang to her eyes. There was still hope. She ran forward and hugged Jack, who was obviously freaked out.
"Thank you." She said. Then she quickly went back to normal. "Alright. Nate, you and I are going to go back and save Matt once and for all. Jack, Mark, you stay here and help Ruby figure out a plan."
"Who..." Jack started.
"I'll explain later." Mark finished.
"Alright." Steph, though now armed with a knife, grabbed the compass we had been using for so long. "Now let's go save my husband."
