Chapter 24 - Second Attempt

Jack looked through the metal grate in the vent. "That liar. There is a guy guarding the exit."

"What did we expect?" Asked Matt sarcasticly.

"Well, I had hoped. We need to get out that way, though." Thought Jack aloud. He took another look through the grate.

"We'll have to suprise him." Whispered Matt.

"Alright. Knife ready?" Asked Jack. Matt took it out of his pocket.

"Go!" Jack stomped the grate down, falling through. The guard raised a gun to him, but Matt quickly fell through and stabbed his arm on the way down. The guard dropped the gun, allowing Matt to pick it up and raise it to him.

Jack ran to the door. "Matt! throw me the knife!" He called. Matt threw the pocket knife over to Jack, who managed to catch it.

Jack was able to quickly get through the rusty lock and open the door. He stepped through, seeing a wide, open field. "Yeah... This is nowhere near my house." He turned around to face Matt. "Although, it was apparently in driving distance, so that's good..." He trailed off.

"What?" Matt looked confused. He didn't see the second guard right behind him, but he heard him. The second guard tried to wrestle the gun away from Matt, but he shoved him back. In an instant, the first guard was on him.

As Matt felt the gun slipping from his fingers, he knew he had no chance. But Jack did.

"Run!" He yelled. But Jack foolishly ran to help Matt, quickly getting knocked back.

He felt dizzy, woozy, lightheaded. His vision was blurry and distorted. He saw the two men drag away Matt, kicking and struggleing in the midst of the blur. He tried to get up, but he didn't have the strength.

As he faded from near unconsciousness and back, he felt himself being dragged away. But he couldn't fight back. He didn't have the strength. So he let go of the last strength he had, as the world faded to black.
