Chapter 17 - The Call, Part 2
He sat down in the front hallway, staring straight at the front door. He had done this every day since he made that call.
Beside him, a sharp kitchen knife. The door, locked tight. The windows, reinforced in various ways. His home had become a bunker, ever since that call.
Every night, knowing that he was the number one target now. Every night, terrified that they would come for him. He remembered the night clearly. The night he called the police.
He had been watching the red room livestream for a few hours now, and unless it showed up in the sections that were buffering, Jason hadn't shown up once.
But then he saw something that he didn't think he would see. It wasn't Jason in the chair, it was Nate. After what seemed like an eternity, the torturer-
*actually, screw it. If you read the first book, you know how the last chapter goes, so I'm skipping to the end."
"Matt! They're track-" Nate's warning was cut off by a knife to the stomach. Stephanie is tried to run to help him, but the stream got cut off.
What did he just witness? Remembering Jason's warning, Nate called the police instantly. He didn't realize his mistaken until he recited the second call. An ominous warning from the red room, simply saying, "you crossed the wrong group. You're next."
He was the red room's number one target now. Full of panic, he only had one idea. He called up his friend for one last warning.
"Mark! Mark, they're dead! I'm the target! I turned them in! They're going to kill me!" He yelled.
"Slow down, what's wrong?" Mark said.
"I called the police! I called them! I saw them both! Stephanie, Nate, they were there! And he was talking to Matt! He told me to call the police if something went wrong!" He said. He was hyperventilating.
"Wait, what? What do you mean you saw them? Where did you see them? What happened to them?" Mark, though confused, tried his best to calm him down.
"The red room. They were at the red room. They kidnapped Nate and Stephanie! And... oh my god, did they get Matt too?" He was breathing heavily, voice full of panic. "Mark, I crossed them. I called the police. They're coming for me. I'm the number one target."
"Wait, the red room? On the deep web? You busted the red room?" Mark couldn't belive it.
"And it's going to be easy now. My own house is just a short drive away from the second location! They're going to go after me. Look, I was only able to get an image of one guy throughout the entire livestream. Blond hair, circular glasses. He looked very put together. Listen, they're moving to the alternate location. It's nearby, so if I go missing. Watch out for that guy I mentioned. Blond hair, circular glasses."
"Wait, what? Don't hang up! The Red Room is after you?!" Mark tried desperately to keep him on the phone.
"I'm sorry. Please, don't contact me again." Then he hung up.
