Chapter 13 - Cross Country
The next morning, Mark had driven Nate and Steph to the airport. For unknown r, Mark was determined to come along, and wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Steph, throughout the whole ride, nervously and obsessively twirled the compass in her fingers. Nate grabbed onto her hands, stopping her from the nervous twirling.
"Stop. It's gonna be fine. He's perfectly fine. This is Matt we're talking about. Host of the smartest show in gaming. If he can't figure it out, I don't know who can." He said. With that, he took the compass, and put it into his own bag. "So stop freaking out. We're not targets, we're dead, remember? You made sure that we couldn't be targeted, so take comfort in that."
Steph took a deep breath. "He's going to be okay."
Nate dropped her hands. "He is. We all know that." This got Nate even more worried. He knew that Steph couldn’t just sit around and be scared, that she knew she had to be tough, but she couldn't keep up this attitude forever. She would start to fall apart if she let the worry build up inside her. They really needed Matt, and quickly.
Mark pulled up into the parking lot. Grabbing his emergency bag, he realized something. "Wepons. We can't bring wepons. Which means, I leave the knife here. We can probably keep the compass with us, as well as the money, the first aid, some of this other stuff, but we'll be loosing a lot of stuff."
Steph nodded. "Got it, let's go in."
After a lot of arguing with Nate about being in a wheelchair or not because he would slow them down if he wasn't, they had miraculously gone through customs without so much as a second glance. Asia was good with her IDs.
The plane ride went even smoother, with the worst thing being that Steph was a little nervous. Nate and Mark tried their best to calm her down.
"So, where are we going again?" Asked Nate.
"Ireland. When we were escaping, I heard them say something about an alternate location in Ireland. The police found no sign of Matt at the first location, so he could only be at the second place." She explained.
"Wait, but what about them finding his body?" Asked Mark.
"When I was disfiguring the bodies, another body got caught in the crossfire, and it was mistaken for him." She bit her lip. "So it's my fault no one is looking for him."
"Hey, hey, hey. Even if it is, which it's not, you’re the one that rallyed us to save him. We're the only ones looking for him." Said Mark.
"And by the way, stop thinking it's all your fault. I mean, MATT was the one who decided to explore the deep web, which resulted in this whole mess." Nate joked.
Stephanie laughed a bit, which was good enough for Mark, but not for Nate, who couldn't take his eyes off of the once again twirling compass.
