Chapter 8 .•°•. Secret Inside the Hat - tnbee °•.•°

~Lyney's POV~

Curtains open.

Spotlight on, and fully on me. Too bright.

The hall explodes in clapping. Too loud.

The audience doesn't see it, but inside, I would give half my life just so I can chicken out.

Wandering with my eyes through the audience, I see only four faces I know.

Faces I love.

Faces why I'm not chickening out.

No matter what I've ever said to my mothers, I've always loved them.

They are all sitting in the first row.

From right to left, it's Arlecchino, Furina, Freminet, and Aether.

I'm so glad the two last could make it, because the other ones always came.

For one, Freminet usually has diving practice, but today, the teacher was sick, so he found time to be here.

And for Aether... well, inviting him was an impulsive action, and I usually don't like impulsive actions.

They are not planned.

If a magic trick is not planned to the very last detail, it's doomed to fail, but this time, only this one time, I decided to listen to my inner voice, saying I should invite him.

And so I did.

And oh, I'm so glad he could make it.

Seeing all the faces, Arlecchino's awaiting face, Furina's proud face, Freminet's overly excited face, and Aether's bright smile, I get calmer, starting to smile as well.

And everyone is still clapping.

I imagine the four people being the only ones in this hall, I fixate a point in the bagground and start the show.

~Third person's POV~

When the applause dies down, Lyney speaks: "Ladies and gentlemen! I welcome you to Lyney and Lynette's magic show! I'm Lyney. Now you might ask, where's Lynette? Well, she'll join us a little later, and maybe..."

They make a dramatic pause.

"...in an unexpected way. And remember, my dear audience, you never know what could happen in the blink of an eye."

He flicks cards out of his hands and lets about five the amount of them fly away to the ceiling.

A magic wand appears in their hand, and a bouquet of roses comes out of it. They take them, in played surprise, and turn them into a long sliver veil of fog.

"That's all magic, but you've seen these tricks hundreds of times. Let me show you what real magic is."

He takes his hat and swirls it around, holds it upside down, and then throws it to a random audience member.

"Tell me, what's in the hat?"

"There's nothing." The audience member answers.

"Great, then can I have it back, please?"

With a swift motion of their hand, the hat flies back to them.

He turns it with the opening to the ground and shakes it one time.

Suddenly, Lynette appears out of the hat, standing, as living as a human can be.

She waves at the audience as it breaks into a wilde applause.

Who could see that coming? A human appearing, and out of a hat? No one saw that before.

After a while, as the applause calms down again, Lyney speaks again.

"Thank you. May I introduce, this is my sister Lynette. She may seem a bit cold, but it just shows that she's nervous."

"Whatever." Lynette murmurs instead so that only the first row could hear it.

"Lynette is a great magician by herself, so I don't doubt that she'll steal the spotlight soon enough.

Stepping aside swiftly, Lyney leaves Lynette the whole stage.

She, on the other hand, pulls a card with a tea cup on it, pulling out the exact cup from behind the card with tea.

After taking a sip, she drops it, and the cup breaks.

But instead of trying to clean it up, she too summons a wand and holds it near the surface of the tea.

Freminet gasps, as Pers, his penguin, disappears out of his hands and into the hands of Lynette.

But that's not the end. With a swift motion of her hand, she cleans up and floats Pers secure back into the hold of Freminet, who looks more than excited about the trick.

Everyone cheers again, this time for Lynette's great work.

As the audience gets quieter, Lyney steps back to Lynette and announces: "For the next trick, we ask everyone to step outside and follow the bright golden string. We'll be there too in a minute."

With that, both him and Lynette disappear.

The crowd starts to move out, and sure enough, there is a string.

Everyone follows it, chatting happily and being excited about the next trick.

As they gather at the front side of the building, they see a big cabin, hanging on four ropes, high in the air, and on top of it sits Lyney. He waves at everyone.

This time, Lynette spoke. "Lyney is going to jump into the cabin and free himself." Her voice was unnaturally loud, as if she spoke through speakers, but there aren't any.

With that, Lyneys jumps in, and the opening closes itself, locking the exit.

Now, the whole crowd hold their breaths, while everyone waits for what happens next.

Will Lyney get out? How will he do it? Will he land on secure earth, or will he appear in the air, falling?

But the answer to all these questions was one that no one expected.

The ropes snap, and the cabin starts to fall.

Everyone gasps and holds their breath. A few even let out a scream.

But before the cabin could meet the ground, it disappears, and it's just Lyney falling.

Everyone, still caught in the show, fears even more for Lyney.

But they too disappear, turning into blue rose petals, which slowly fall on the ground.

After a while of silence, there are a couple of claps, and then everyone joins in.

The applause could have been heard in every dorm around the school.

Then, a dark turquoise hand appears out of thin air and shows the way inside.

Of course, everyone enters the great hall again, Lyney standing in the middle of the stage, smiling.

Lynette goes to Lyney, turning to the audience.

They both summon their hats, roll them over their arms and shoulders to the other one, where the hats continue to roll, vanishing at the end.

The siblings bow and the curtains close, escorted by the massive applause and cheering of the audience.
