Chapter 2

I burst through the hospital doors and practically run into the front desk.

"I need to see Alice, Peter and Natalia Valentine NOW!!" I say panting.
"Are you Ms. Emree Valentine?"
"Yes."
"Oh . . . Dear I'm so sorry . . . The doctors turned off their machines. They're gone sweetie." She said trying to sound sympathetic.

My hands cover my face and tears rush out of my eyes. Why didn't I come sooner or answer my phone earlier.

Mom, dad, Natalia? Please come back. I won't be mean or rude I won't sneak out or hang out with the people that push me to smoke and drink. I need you. All of you and I can't live without you. You all mean so much to me. What am I going to do? Can I kill myself? Will that take the pain away. I won't ever stop crying about you and I will never stop missing you. You are my family and I ... I can't.

The lady behind the desk comes over to comfort me. I hug her extremely tight and sob into her. This has to be a dream or something. Maybe this is one of those TV shows that pranks people.

Nope. The pain won't go away. The loss. What am I supposed to do without them?

First Jaymee and now my family?! How bad can this get?!

---

I curl up in a ball on Mikey's sofa and cry. The lady helped me calm down a little bit and call him to pick me up since I'm in no condition to drive. I never thanked her. I wonder what her name is . . .

"Hey. Please say something." He says in between tears. Natalia was Michael's girlfriend. I never approved, but it meant that he would come over more often.
"I'm not in the mood." I grunt and burry my face in a pillow.
"You think I'm in the mood to talk either, Em. I know she's your sister, but  I was close to her too."

I look up at him and I open my arms out to hug him. He hugs me and I don't want to let go. I want to stay in Mikey's arms forever. I don't want to deal with everyone at school. I could always drop out. It is my senior year and I wasn't really planning on going to college.

"You're not dropping out, Em." He says like he could read my mind.
"Why not? It's not like I need to stay in school I don't want to go to college so what's the big deal?" I say into his shoulder.
"You're not dropping out!" He says more sternly this time.
"Fine." I grunt.

I snuggle up to him on the couch and we watch TV for the rest of the day. I drift off to sleep with my head in his lap and he plays with my hair. He's the only family I have left. I love him!

---

I wake up and I smell waffles. Yum! Mikey doesn't cook though. Weird. I get up off the couch and head up to Michael's room. He's laying on his bed with his phone in his hand watching something. I walk in and lay down next to him.

"Whatcha watching?" I ask.
"Nothing. How are you? Feeling better?"
"Not really. Are you okay?" I say hold back tears.
"No. I will learn to accept it one day though." He says frowning.
"Yeah, I guess. So can we do something today?" I ask changing the subject. I can tell he isn't comfortable talking about his dead girlfriend aka my sister. I didn't want to talk about them either. It hurts. Bad.
"Actually I'm having the boys over for band rehearsals." By the boys he means Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, and Luke Hemmings. I've never met them, I've just heard of them. They've been together for two years now, I've never been interested in hearing it though. I love Mikey and all, I just don't like his taste in music.

"Can you stay around for it?"
"Ugh. . ."
"Please, you've never heard us." He begs.
"Fine." I sigh.
"Yay!! They're downstairs if you haven't noticed."
"What?"
"Yeah."
"Is that why I smelt food?"
"Yep, you know I don't cook. Luke can though."
"Oh."
"Come on let's go. I want you to meet them." He says.
"Wait, I need clothes . . . And a hairbrush."

He tosses me a faded dark green Greenday shirt and his hairbrush. I slip the shirt on and put my hair in a French braid.

I walk downstairs and the boys are on the couch playing Fifa. I remember how much my dad used to love playing that game with Michael and I break down. I sit on the stairs and try to pull myself together. I wipe away my tears and stand up. I walk toward the couch and look at the boys. Only one of them seems to notice me though. He has long, curly blondish-brown hair. He didn't have a controller in his hand. Instead, he was looking at Twitter on his phone. He has long fingers! I'm gonna call him Long Fingers. He stands up and walks toward me.

"Hey, I'm Ashton." He says. So much for Long Fingers!
"Hey, I'm Emeree." I say with a shy smile.
"Emeree? I've heard the name before. You're Michael's best friend aren't you?"
"Um, yeah."
"That's cool. So where're you from?"
"Sydney. So here." I say.
"That's cool. I am too. Do you like Fifa?"
"I'm not a fan. My dad was though." I choke and I can feel tears forming in my eyes. I wipe them away before Ashton can notice and I smile.
"I'm not a fan either. The boys think I'm weird because of it." He says with a small chuckle. I smile and start to like Ashton. He's nice.

I walk over to the kitchen and I grab two waffles and take them into the living room. I sit on a small couch to the left of the long couch the boys are sitting on and stare at each of them.

One of them is small and looks quite Asian. Mikey has said something about this one before. He isn't Asian, is he? Maybe. I'm naming him Ching Chong.

I look to the right of Ching Chong and I see a much taller boy that's hunched over. He has a small lip ring on one side of his mouth and his hair is a brownish-blonde. It's up in some sort of quiff. It looked good! He did have a very focus look on his face though. His eyebrows were scrunched together and his mouth was a hanging open. I couldn't help but smile at how funny it looked and he looked over at me.

"Who's the girl mate?" Quiff boy says.
"Emeree." Michael says without taking his eyes off the screen.
"Emeree, huh? Isn't she that girl you're always talking about?"
"I don't always talk about her!" Mikey insists.
"Sure you don't." Quiff boy says. He pauses the game and throws his controller onto the coffee table.

"I'm Luke." He says looking at me. He smiles and I can't help but notice how blue his eyes are.
"You can call me Em." I say.
"Nice to meet you, Em!" He says. I like Luke too.

Ching Chong finally decides to notice me and he looks over to where I'm sitting.

"I'm Calum." He says.
"I'm gonna call you Ching Chong." I says with a little smile. All four of the boys burst out laughing and I can't help but realize how funny it sounds out loud. It sounded so much better in my head!

After a while the laughter slowly dies down and Ching Chong's, I mean Calum's, laugh turns into a small chuckle. "I'm not Asian." He says with a smile.

"Oh yeah, then what are you?" I say with a smirk.
"I'm part Kiwi, part Scottish." He says matter-a-factly. I giggle.
"I'm still calling you Ching Chong!" I say.
He smiles and chuckles a little bit. I can tell that I'm gonna have a lot of fun with the boys. Especially Ching Chong!
