Chapter 2

Without saying a word, I ran and grab my bag, which was already packed with ammunition and medical supplies. I change out the ammunition in my .45 from the silver bullets (which only could paralyze a vampire) to bloodstone bullets (which will kill a vampire in seconds.) Andy, who was standing with a vampire catcher in his hands, gasp.

"Patrick, you cannot be serious!" I grin, as I hurriedly tie my boots.

"Oh I'm dead serious. They want to play this game, I will abide by their rules. JOE!" I yell down the hall. "2689!" That was our code word for vampire attack. A few stumbling seconds, Joe was already out in the living room holding a .22, which was filled with silver bullets.

"Here," I lay the bloodstone bullets beside him on a table. Joe shrinks away from them in horror.

"Patrick, you know what the Priest said about those! They are forbidden!" Andy nods.

"I try to tell him that but he simply wouldn't listen!" I grew frustrated. We were wasting precious time arguing over some stupid bullets when we could've already got Alex and Kellin by now.

"Look," I said in a low, dangerous tone. Opening the door, I stare straight ahead. "You can stay here bickering about right and wrong like a bunch of whiny babies you are, but don't expect me to listen. My friends are out there being attacked by vampires and frankly, they need me more than you two right now." And I slammed the door behind me.

I was concealed behind one of the warehouse walls, the "complex", which was just a abandoned apartment, was in front of me. There wasn't anyone in front of the entrance, but that didn't fool me. Vampires are relatively skilled at standing still so it looks like no one is there. I mean after all, they are the children of the night.

Lightning flashed overhead, followed by a sudden downpour. I hiss as the freezing cold rain touched my skin. I glance around as thunder rumbles. Okay I can either stay put and wait for the rain to pass or run like hell towards the entrance and pray nothing attacks you in the process of doing so. I know I have enough bloodstone bullets in here to last me through this rescue. I haven't had to use a single one yet. I weigh my options heavily and decide it's best to go with the second option, because the way Kellin sounded. God knows whether or not they are still alive. I take a deep breath and ran.

Instantly a vampire jumps out from the shadows, and lunges towards me. I raise my gun and pulled the trigger. She jerked back in shock as the bullet went through her heart. The look of shock was still frozen upon her face as she fell backwards, already dead before she hit the ground. I jump over her body and continue running towards the entrance.

"HE KILLED ALYSSA!" came the cry and two vampires shot out of the shadows. I seen another race on the top of the warehouse roof as I shot the two coming towards me. I whirl my gun upward but was too late. The vampire leaps from the ceiling, knocking me down. My gun sliding all the way to the entrance.

"Aarg!" I growl, trying to keep him from biting me. His red eyes flash with annoyance and he bites my hand instead. I howl in pain, gather my strength, and push him off of me. Without thinking, I roll over, grab his head and broke his neck. The bleach blonde head stops moving. It didn't kill him but it gave me enough time to get into the apartment.

Running by the entrance, I bent down and grab my gun. Once I got inside, it was quiet. I retreat to a nearby corner, and squat down. Glancing around making sure I wasn't being watched or hunted, I swing my bag off of my shoulder, take out some gauze, wrap my hand up so much to where the blood would not show nor seep through, put the remaining in the bag and continue on my way.

Gritting my teeth, I reach into my jacket pocket and pulled out my phone.

Of course there wouldn't be any service! I thought gloomily, putting it back in the pocket. Here I am cold, drenched from the rain, hurt, and now I am looking like a lost cause wandering around in the apartment where I can't see a dang thing, looking for my friends who were probably dead.

I carefully open a closet door which, to my irritation, squeaks, causing it to echo throughout the apartment. I peer in, nothing. There was absolutely nothing.

"For the love of god, where could these two be!" Thunder rumbles outside causing another round of rain to hit against the apartment's tin roof. I sigh, and start making my way down the hallway. There was only one last place in here they could be. That was the master bedroom.

The door was cracked. It instantly led me to hold up my gun straight in front of me, causing my hand to throb in pain. Halfway towards the bedroom, I froze. What I heard, apart from the rain and thunder, were footsteps heading this way towards the hall. I spun around to come face to face with Joe and Andy.

"Jesus Christ!" I hiss quietly at both of their scared faces. "Are you guys wishing to be shot and killed!" Both shook their heads, still frighten.

"We thought you might want our help," Joe mutters quietly. "We won't kill them like you are doing but we couldn't just let you face this by yourself." He notices my hand. "What happened there?"

"I just sprained it," I lie quietly. "Now come on." Feeling much better with my two friends behind me, we start towards the master bedroom.

I peer inside through the crack. It was even darker in the bedroom. I use my injured hand to push the door open, and froze. There in front of me in the dark was someone's outline

I step forward cautiously. The person was slump against the wall. Through the blood and bruises, it was Alex. A thump sounds from behind me. I whirl around to find Joe crouch low hands over his head shielding his face from the attacker.

"Ow! Kellin stop!" He growled silently. The figure took a step back, dropping whatever weapon he was holding.

"I'm sorry," he stammers. "I swear, I didn't know it was you guys." Kellin sounded like he was about to cry. I wouldn't blame him. He was literally in shock from all that has happen. I turn my attention back to Alex while Joe and Andy tend to Kellin.

I put two fingers against the side of Alex's neck, feeling the faint rhythm of a heartbeat. I pull off my bag, unzipped and pulled out some gauze, alcohol pads and a couple of other medical supplies. I push his brown hair back and start cleaning out some of the wounds on his face. There wasn't much I can do until we all got back to safety.

I treat and wrap most of what I could up with the remaining gauze I have. The rain outside started to pound harder. I grimace as the throbbing in my hand gets worse.

"Are you guys ready? We have to make this quick." I slip my .45 in my boot then grab my backpack and put it on.

"Yea, Kellin is done being treated." Andy whispers. Kellin and Joe nod. I pick up Alex as gently as I can. He barely weighed much but for my injured hand, it is screaming in pain.

"When we get outside," I spoke we walk quickly down the hall and into living room. "Cover me." They all nod, readying themselves as we approach the entrance.

Dear Jesus, when we go outside, please don't let anyone die, especially Alex. I really don't feel like dealing with a heartbroken Jack if Alex dies. I stop in front of the entrance. It was raining so bad, I can barely see about a foot in front of me. I look around at Kellin, Joe and Andy. They stare back at me. I turn my attention back towards the entrance, and started running.
