A Mother's Wish

Dev,all his life was busy with either studies or getting a place for himself. Since his father passed away when he was just 8, he started working very hard in order to give his family a great life. He is just like a fatherly figure in Pia's life too cause she was just 1 year old when his father passed away in an accident.

His mother, Vidya, had been hoping for a while for Dev to settle down and start a family of his own.

One fine day, Vidya sat Dev down and spoke to him about the importance of marriage. She said, "Dev, my dear son, it's about time you start thinking of getting married. We have seen many wonderful girls, but I wanted to ask you, is there someone special in your life?"

Dev smiled and replied, "Yes, Ma. There is someone who has stolen my heart. Her name is Ruchika, and she is the most beautiful person I have ever met."

Vidya was delighted to hear this and asked, "Are you sure about her, Dev? Have you talked to her family about your intentions?"

Dev nodded and said, "I have spoken to Ruchika about my feelings, and she feels the same way too. I have also discussed this with her brother, Karan, and he is happy about our union."

Vidya's face lit up with joy, and she hugged Dev tightly. "I am so happy for you, my son. If Ruchika is the girl who can bring a smile to your face, then I give my wholehearted approval. Let's go and visit Ruchika's family to discuss the wedding plans."

Vidya smiled and said "Oh, Dev, why didn't you tell me earlier? I want to know all about her. Sit down, my dear, and let's talk."

Dev feels relieved and said "Thank you, Ma. Ruchika is an incredibly kind and compassionate person. She understands and supports my dreams and aspirations. We have been through ups and downs together, and she has stood by me through thick and thin."

Vidya exclaims "She sounds like a wonderful person, Dev. What does she do?"

Dev smiled at her "She's a social worker, Ma. She is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of the less fortunate. Ruchika's passion for helping others inspires me everyday. Initially she was my patient when she wasn't well".

Vidya remarked "That's incredible, Dev. I can see why you fell in love with her. Have you talked to her about marriage?".

Dev retorted "Yes, Ma, we have discussed it. Ruchika believes that true love also means supporting each other's individual growth. We want to take our time understanding each other completely before taking such a big step."

Vidya smiled "That makes sense, Dev. I am glad to know that you both have thought about it seriously. But, why were you hesitant to tell me about her?".

Dev feels like happiness round the corner "I was worried about how you would react, Ma. I didn't want you to feel like I was going against your wishes or traditions."

Vidya hugged Dev "My child, love knows no boundaries and is not restricted by traditions. What matters the most is that you are happy and treated with love and respect. If Ruchika is the one who brings that into your life, then I am more than happy to stand by your decision".

Dev feels relieved "Thank you, Ma. Your support means everything to me. When the time is right, I would like to introduce you to Ruchika so you can see for yourself how amazing she is."

Vidya feels at the top of the world "Of course, Dev. I trust your judgment, and I am eager to meet the woman who has won my son's heart. May your love for each other grow stronger with time."

Dev reciprocated the hug "Thank you, Ma. Your blessings mean the world to us. I'm so grateful to have you as my mother."

In this beautifully unfolding dialogue, Dev's mother exemplifies the unconditional love and understanding a parent can show. She acknowledges and accepts her son's feelings, putting his happiness ahead of societal expectations.

Dev's hesitations quickly dissolve as his mother's support brings him the reassurance he needed. Love conquers all, and Dev's story with Ruchika begins to take shape, with the promise of a bright and supportive future together.

Few days later, Dev decided to take his mother, Vidya, on a special shopping trip to find the perfect saree.

It was a bright and sunny day as they strolled hand in hand through the colorful streets, filled with vibrant shops and eager customers.

As they entered the famous 'Vibrant Silks' store, their eyes caught a familiar sight. Standing across the room were Ruchika and Pia, Dev's sister. A wave of delight washed over them as they went over to greet their family friends.

"Ruchika! Pia!" Dev exclaimed with joy, his voice filled with genuine enthusiasm.

Vidya joined in, her face lighting up with a warm smile. "Oh, my dears, it's so wonderful to see you both! How have you been?"

Ruchika, a graceful lady with an infectious laughter, hugged Vidya affectionately. "We've been good, Aunty! Just exploring the city and, of course, shopping for sarees too. What a pleasant surprise to bump into you both here!"

Pia, a young and vibrant girl with a mischievous glint in her eyes, chimed in, "Hey, big brother! I hope you're not stealing all the attention from us today."

Dev chuckled, playfully tousling her hair. "Oh, Pia, you know I can never steal your limelight. Today is all about our queen, Mom! We are here to find her the most beautiful saree."

Vidya blushed at the praise, feeling a surge of pride. "You kids and your flattery! But thank you, my dear Dev. Let's begin our search then."

As their shopping adventure began, the air was filled with excitement and laughter. They all explored racks after racks, intricately designed sarees draping the walls of the store. The salesperson, sensing their enthusiasm, brought forth the finest collection for Vidya to choose from.

Vidya gently touched the fabric of a gorgeous orange saree, admiring the fine craftsmanship. "This one looks lovely, don't you think, Ruchika?"

Ruchika smiled and nodded, her eyes lighting up with appreciation. "Absolutely, Aunty! Orange is vibrant and suits you so well. But let's see what other treasures await us."

Pia, in her lively manner, cheekily intervened, "Yes, Mom. We shall find a saree that makes you shine like a star!"

They continued their search, sharing stories and laughter, highlighting the bond between these dear friends. Dev couldn't help but be grateful for moments like these, witnessing the love and affection his mother received from all.

Finally, after a long exploration, Vidya found herself standing in front of a stunning royal blue saree with intricate gold embroidery. Its elegance spoke to her soul, and she simply couldn't resist.

"Oh, my! This is the one," Vidya exclaimed, her voice filled with delight.

Ruchika's eyes widened in awe. "Vidya, you have chosen a masterpiece! Blue signifies wisdom, loyalty, and trust. It portrays your grace beautifully."

Pia clapped her hands gleefully. "Yes, Mom! I couldn't agree more. Bhai, what do you think?"

Dev beamed with pride, his eyes reflecting his admiration. "Mom, you look absolutely radiant! This saree is perfect, just like you."

As Vidya twirled in her new saree, the vibrant colors trailing her, their love and bond as a family grew stronger. They left the store, hearts brimming with happiness, embracing the joy of togetherness and the treasure of beautiful memories.

From that day forward, whenever Vidya wore her prized blue saree, it became a symbol of love, laughter, and the cherished moments spent with her beloved family. And as their story continued to unfold, their intertwining destinies remained connected by the threads of love, forever shining bright like the exquisite saree.
