7- The Fight (E)
Thea ran down the block, feeling something akin to freedom. She has not had her suit on in years and soon, she would realize why. Every time Thea wore that outfit bad things always seemed to happen to her or to the people whom she cared about. It seemed like running to the problem wasn't truly making it, so Thea did what she didn't want to; She used her powers. It had been a while since Thea used her powers to their full extent. Most people, if they got powers, would use it for the most mundane things like turning off and on a light and grabbing a phone across the room. Thea tries to use her powers as little as possible. Thea never used to be this scared of her own powers until 2012, that incident made her realize the extent of the power she possesses.
Panting heavily and her chest heaving, Thea tried to spark up her powers in her hands. She felt the power slowly flow down her arms and her palms where purple mist collected. With no time to lose, Thea shot the mist, in her palms, down towards the ground and lifted herself off of the ground. Although her powers had their benefits, they also had their drawbacks. One of those major drawbacks was that Thea's eyes glow a neon violet shade any time she used any of her power. Her eyes had a piercing gaze to them and left those, whoever saw them, in shock.
That is what was happening right now and Thea could feel it; the gradually creeping feeling of power coasting through her body and the feeling of her eyes seeing everything in a slight purple tint. Steadily, Thea made the mist move faster and harder to hopefully make her arrive soon. Thea floated above the scene and audibly gasped at what she was witnessing. An entire building was on fire with what seemed like no end to it. Firefighters and police alike trying to help out.
It wasn't long after until someone noticed her in the air. Thea prayed that they didn't know it was her, but as soon as they saw the purple mist flowing out of her body they knew. It was the same mist that caused so much death and destruction years before. Carefully, Thea landed next to a police car. Thea could already hear the police chatter around her, all of them realizing who she was.
Out of the corner of her eye was a brave policeman who walked up to her saying, "I-I um you can't be here, we have this all under control." Him saying this was another way of saying 'go away, we don't want to get hurt by you'
"I'm afraid I have to disagree with you there, you see that fire isn't going out anytime soon and I believe Spider-Man is also in there too, right?" Thea stated to the asking police officer while pointing at the building which was engulfed in flames. The policeman sputtered at the response.
"I'll be going in to help now, don't worry, nothing bad will happen," Thea said patting his shoulder, trying to comfort the shaken officer. Taking the policeman walking away as a queue, Thea began to rise again. This time into the burning building.
Once Thea entered the building she was greeted with a harsh smell of smoke and feeling of heat. Ash was flying around in the air, burnt furniture was strewn throughout the building. Walls set ablaze and slowly burning down.
"Is anyone in here?" She screamed over the crackling fire. Hearing no response, Thea decided to venture further into the building. She repeated the phrase, but this time she got an answer, in a faint voice she heard, "Back here, I'm stuck."
Thea was grateful that her mask covered her mask and filtered out the poisonous air. She would not be able to last inside the building on her own without correct ventilation. Thea began to walk to where she heard the voice, ducking under the licking flames that tried to burn her and stepping over the burnt remnants of furniture. In the corner of the burning building, she could vaguely make out a bright red and blue suit underneath a heavy concrete pillar.
"Don't worry, I'll help you," Thea said as she got closer. Once she got close enough to see without the smoke hindering her vision, she saw that the person is trouble was none other than Spider-Man himself.
Her eyes widened as she quickly went about getting rid of the remaining debris trapping his body. The large pillar still trapped him from freedom and Thea knew that she wouldn't be strong enough physically to pick it up. But with mental strength, she could. Flowing out a stream of purple mist, Thea wrapped her powers around the hefty pillar and began to lift. The pillar began to weigh down her mind and her body at the enormity of it. Eventually, Thea had made enough leeway to get him out from underneath the pillar. Quickly, Thea then hurried over to his limp body. She wrapped her arms around his waist and began to lift him up, away from the pillar. Spider-Man, who was still conscious, managed to cough out the word,"Thanks," his eyes now wandering around the burning building.
"Anything for a fellow super," She said back to him, wishing she hadn't.
"Fellow superhero," he muttered to himself, finally having the strength to look up, eyes widening as he did.
"Holy fuck, you're Dark Matter," he said in disbelief. Thea could feel his entire body went stiff at this revelation. "I thought you were in hiding." He said, his body loosening up a tad.
"I was never in hiding, just... away from being a superhero for a while," She confessed not looking at him exactly but more so at the ground. The talking distracted her from their current situation however and Thea failed to notice the smoke getting larger.
"Small talk later, we gotta get out of this building and now." She said, picking up the pace and squeezing his shell-shocked body closer to hers. "Hold on tight, I'm going to have to jump it," Thea said, running to the nearest window, trying to outrun the flames that desperately tried to gain on them. Running as fast as she could with a teenage boy in her arms, Thea jumped out the shattered window.
Thea's powers quickly followed suit and floated both of them down onto the ground. The wind rushed around the pair as carefully, Thea gently set Spider-Man down. "Help him, he was in the smoke for too long and might have some damage," Thea demanded to a paramedic. She then turned back to the fire, that was still ravaging the building.
"I'll be back to take him, I just gotta take care of this first." Speaking to no
one in general. Thea drew closer to the building yet again to try to stop the fire. I can do this, She assured herself. She looked down at her hands, which were going back and forth in a circular formation, and saw the purple mist started to form in between them. When Thea believed that she had formed enough to cover the entire building, she shot it out, the mist quickly covering the entire building.
This wasn't an easy task to do, but it needed to be done. The mist slowly but surely compressed throughout the building, forcing the fire to be put out. The mist compressed room after room, taking the fire and oxygen with it. With shaking hands, Thea grunted and sweated from the extended use of her powers that she had not used in years. After Thea trusted that the fire had been put out by her powers she fell back onto her back and rested.
Still conscious, Thea raised up her hands to her face and noticed the state of with they were in. Shaking and twitching, little sparks of purple shot out of them without her approval. In the corner of her eyes, she could see a dark figure watching them both from the building adjacent to them, taking in the pair.

After school had gotten out Peter knew something was wrong as soon as his hair stood up on his arms. In haste, he ran behind the nearest enclosed space and changed into his suit. Peter's suit wasn't anything special, he made it by himself and it did the job of protecting his identity but it didn't do very well at protecting him physically. Peter quickly changed into the suit transforming from Peter, a nerd, and outcast, to Spider-Man, Queens hero and immediately swung to where his spidey senses were telling him where to go, a burning building. He shot webs at the closest building to where he was and swung at a rapid pace to the disaster.
Peter was immediately met with the sight of a huge fire, and with no hesitation, he swung into it headfirst. He needed to know if anyone needed saving or was still alive here. Calling out multiple times but with no luck, Peter soon realized that no one was in this building. That is strange, he thought, There isn't a single person in this building.
His eyes then widened at the realization of what it could be, a set-up. Peter coughed out, his throat drying up at the smoke that was now surrounding his body and that was now hindering his ability to do anything. He tried to get out of there as quickly as he could but without any warning, the ceiling above him began to creak and crack. All in one second the ceiling above Peter cracked open and debris flew down onto him and a large concrete pillar fell onto him, trapping him on the ground.
Right before this happened, he managed to catch a small glimpse of a single person on the other side of the hall, watching. A dark figure who both Peter and Thea would both see again. Sooner than they wanted. The person watched as the pillar collapsed onto Peter and stayed when Thea flew in, saving Peter.

After collapsing on the ground in exhaustion, Thea realized she had done it. She had put out the fire and stopped Spider-Man from dying. Thea still had more to do, however. Spider-Man was still next to her, panting and coughing and needed help getting home. Slowly, Thea put a single hand on the ground beside her and pushed herself up from her place on the ground and made her way to Spider-Man. The paramedic had already left him and assumed he would be fine on his own.
"Hey Spidey, you need some help getting somewhere?" Thea asked him, looking down at his position on the ground. He looked over at her, eyes still glazed over from what happened and answered, "Yeah, that would be nice, I don't think I could swing my way home this time."
Thea bent down to the ground and placed both hands underneath his back and helped Spidey get up from the ground gently, being careful not to hurt him anymore. She then adjusted her grip on him by putting an arm around his waist and placing his arm around her neck. Thea then began to form the destructive mist again. She stopped her actions abruptly when Spider-Man winced at the movement.
"Are you sure you are okay?" She asked cautiously. "I don't want to hurt you."
"It's fine, I think I just have a headache from all the smoke," he told her with a slight smile on his face.
"If you say so," Thea said, reforming the mist again.
Using the mist to lift them both up into the air, Thea asked Spider-Man, "So where do you want me to drop you off? Obviously not your house or mine so where?"
"Just a building in Queens near the Delmar sandwich shop is fine," he told her.
"Okay Spidey I'll do that for you," Thea said back.
~ Author's Note ~
All rights to Spider-Man and original plot goes to the Marvel franchise and their fantastic movies and comics. I own new story lines and new characters, like Thea Quinton.
I know, not one of my best chapters I have written, but hey it's better than nothing right? It was kinda a testing chapter to see how it'll all go.
Next chapter I think will be much more interesting and will bring Peter and Thea closer.
