Aftermath of the Virginian Split

Hi-

The video above has a bit of a more accurate representation of it. I just thought good angst material. But yeah-

TW: Civil War is mentioned as all this occurs afterward. - Slavery is also mentioned because you can't bring up one and not the other.

(Take another historical thing because ya know. Why not?)

"So... West. My dear brother, how have you been?" Virginia asked nervously. He had been hoping since the war was over they could reunite and he could get some lands back.

West Virginia stood, clearly unimpressed and rather pissed. "Fine." He replied, his voice dark and monotone. The newly created state kept his eyes on his... Unfortunate family member. A little fire may have hurt him, but he could never know the pain he had to go through to stand where he stood today. Especially when half of his hardships could have been avoided if he hadn't followed South Carolina and his stupidity.

"How about we start over ya know. Maybe we could... Reunite? Talk things over and-"

"Hell no! I don't want to be with a slavery-supporting bitch boy." Spat the Mountain State, shocking his older brother. "Besides, we left fair and square. None of my people would even consider such a repulsive idea." Virginia looked hurt, which satisfied West Virginia.

"But-" Started the former confederate state, before he could continue his brother had already walked away...

+Time skip+

West Virginia and Ohio were having a casual conversation as they walked past DC's office. Bust both froze when they heard a specific Southerner going on and on about the new state. Curious, the two decided to stick around and eavesdrop. Which was easy since the door was cracked open, Virginia had a bad habit of never properly closing doors.

"If I can't take West Virginia back fully can I at least have these few counties? I know they were elected by force and you had cheated them out of a proper election." Virginia nearly yelled, pointing at the tip of West's iconic thumb for his flipping off. DC looked rather uncomfortable, as he fidget with his tie. He wasn't exactly siding with Virginia at all but he caught him there. A lot of the Mountain State's land was placed there by force but apparently, he only knew of the two. Surprisingly, West Virginia got away with sneaking a good chunk of land into his Constitution. Unlike another midwestern state, we're looking at you Ohio.

"I would rather we take this to the Supreme Court." He said finally, his nervous eyes met the enraged Southerners. "We can have an unbiased party make the final call." Reluctantly, Virginia agreed. West Virginia snatched Ohio's collar and dragged him off, fuming.

Once they were at a reasonable distance he started his rant. "I cannot believe him! All because I ain't wanna be a part of his stupid fucking state anymore?! I swear ma must have dropped him as a baby or some shit!" The taller state watched quietly as he raved about how "unjust and unfair" this whole thing was. And he agreed, he didn't wanna be a rebel so he rebelled. Respect is given. "I just wanna fucking strangle him sometimes... Who the hell goes behind their brother's back like this? I ain't do shit to him other than leave and take some of his shit. But did he earn it? No! That swine left! I didn't! Meaning I should have some right to what I stole from a that good, lousy, disgusting, insufferable, idiotic, absolute bastard of a state he is!" He huffed. Then paused, "Oh right. You probably don't care that much do ya?"

Ohio shook his head. "Did the same thing back when I was a kid. Fuck that state up north." West looked puzzled.

"Is that why he has the weird peninsula thing and an adoptive sister?" Ohio nodded and smiled. The Mountain State giggled and the two continued on their way, venting about their neighborhood struggles.

+Another Time skip because Teenage Supreme Court said so.+

"So... Why are you three in my house again?" Asked the black-haired teen. He leaned back on his wooden chair and adjusted one of his boots.

"Well as you know one of your duties is resolving disputes among states," DC spoke, causing the troublesome child to roll his eyes. "And what better way to get better at that than handle this? West Virginia is refusing to give up some of his lands because he left legally to join the union. Virginia argues that the counties in question were stolen. And the election was rigged by union soldiers. What do you have to say?" Asked the Republican, his nerves flaring up again. The Supreme Court hardly listened to anyone since he got here.

He couldn't blame him. He grew up in a house where he had to learn to take care of himself to survive. Unfortunately, bad parenting made him lose respect for his elders. The Court's eyes scanned the room and looked at a few documents each state had given him. "Virginia, is there any other reason you want these two counties anyway? They don't seem that important." He asked, his eyes never leaving the southern state's paper.

"Well, there were plenty of farmers that wanted to be with me-"

"And how would you know that? Seems like a rather abrasive claim. Plus a very bold move, you just left and expected things to be ok? I'm sure if they wanted to stay with you it was for their own benefits. They simply were worried about losing the slaves they owned." Virginia gulped, he wasn't expecting a response like that from someone he helped raise. He went to say something only for him to get interrupted. "West, any comments?"

"Maybe I shouldn't have left so abruptly your honor. But would anyone like to be around this dick right now? No! I did what I deemed necessary, and the taking of those lands is not on my hands. But the government themselves." The other replied. Supreme Court nodded and re-looked at the paperwork one more time.

"I have made my decision. West may keep his lands. Now get out of my fucking house." He hissed, the Court got out of his seat and left the dining room.

Virginia sighed and looked over at his brother, who was already gathering his things. "Are you sure we can't-"

"Virginia. Stop trying. I'm not going back."

Those words hit him like getting kicked in the gut by a horse. He wasn't coming back. His only brother hated him.

And he knew he deserved it.
