Make Your Family Proud
Okay a remake of the request Bitchyass_tacos had
I may have got some things wrong about Disneyworld's opening day. Oh well.
Also it's still up to the reader over who Florida's boyfriend is
Florida POV
It's 1972 and your dad is bringing you to Disneyworld for the first time.
You had been so excited seeing the fancy new buildings and rides going up in your swamplands, and had been dying to check it out. However despite being the state the park was built in, and consequently the land it was built on, your dad never had enough money to take you.
Until your birthday when dad surprises you with two tickets to Disney.
You can hardly keep the grip on your to-go cup as you walk through the front gates, smelling the park food wafting through the air and the music playing from the streets. However since it is 1972 not many rides are open yet, and the park's main attraction were the golf courses right next to it. Still, dad took you to damn near everything your little heart desired and you had a blast.
You were exhausted at the end of the day and had to be carried on dad's shoulders as the crowd dwindled down and stores and rides began closing. You held onto a Mickey plush with an ironclad grip and you babbled about your dad like dad wasn't even there. You two joined a small crowd to watch the end of the day fireworks over Cinderella's castle. As you watched the bright pops of colors in the sky and woo'd and aa'd, you made the offhand comment about how you wished this day could last forever and how you and dad should keep coming back to Disneyworld for the rest of your lives.
Dad took you off his shoulders then, placed you in front of him, and started to explain how he wouldn't live forever and experience these moments with you as long as you'd be alive (which was for a long time, according to dad). Someday he'd travel to the great beyond over the clouds and you'd still be right here, looking at the fireworks and making important decisions for your state.
And as your eyes well up and you nearly lose grip on your Mickey plush, dad wipes your tears and tells you that he'll always be with you, whenever you see a firework in the sky it's him. Whenever you feel genuine happiness, that's him. He'll always be in your heart, loving you, comforting you, and someday sharing the space with someone you love. And as the last firework fades and the workers start pushing people out, you hug your dad around his neck feeling a little comforted.
It's 2021 and the parks have just reopened after the hurricane, sorry, Covid, warning had gone down safely enough for Disney to allow guests again. You dragged your poor boyfriend around Disney all day, both your feet were sore and your boyfriends outfit was wet because you both rode Splash Mountain five times, but you both were happy. It's night now, and you two have joined the crowd in front of Cinderella's castle to watch the fireworks show. Your boyfriend is amazed watching the fireworks, even if he's from a city where whenever there's a loud boom means a car backfiring or a weapon, but you stay amazed as you watch the glittering pieces of color fill the sky set to Disney music and character cues.
And as a beautiful firework pops over the castle, with Aladdin telling the Genie that he's 'free', you think of dad and wonder if he's looking down on you like he said, proud of what you've become.
You hope he is.
