xxxiv. cat and mouse
CHAPTER XXXIV:
cat and mouse
( September 1995 )
"RUN!" THE SILENCE CUTTING WORDS RANG THROUGH THE EARS OF EVERYONE AND ALL THE STUDENTS BEGAN TO SCATTER OUT LIKE ANTS WHEN THEIR HILL IS DESTROYED. Ginger grabbed George's hand and lead him to a wall pulling on multiple different books, his eyebrows furrowed as he turned to pull her into another direction but then the wall began to open up to reveal a secret passage.
"Guys!" George called his group to follow them before disappearing behind the wall sneaking with his hand in Ginger's. "How'd you know about this?" his sentence was suddenly beginning to sound more sobered as adrenaline began streaming through his veins that circled his muscular build.
"I've explored the castle a lot and found different passages all around the school to get around." Her words were still bubbly even though the adrenaline in her system was keeping her going.
Rounding a corner, their eyes were blinded by the bright lights of the exit. Stepping through, it was seen that there were no students left in the corridors like there was when the party had begun.
"Alright, I think we're safe," Lee huffed coming out after them.
"Not true." Ginger's eyes widened at the sight of Filch and Mrs Norris down the corridor they had entered. And then he spotted them. "Run!"
The group split up in different directions. Sprinting down the corridors, heels clicking against the tile, it all felt like a game of cat and mouse. Filch the cat, and the teens the mice. All waiting for their predator to catch them in his grasp and bring them to their doomed ending of consequences.
"Wait, in here." George took her hand in his to hide in a nearby supply closet. They shuffled inside, the air in their lungs suddenly becoming thick and musty, but neither of them could seem to care. "Why did I have to choose the smallest space ever," George breathed out while his posture contorted forwards to avoid his head hitting the low stone ceiling.
Ginger let a stream of giggles fester from her throat as the adrenaline had begun to wear off and she began to return to her drunken state. George would've too, maybe even worse with how much alcohol was in his system, but his adrenaline was still apparent in his body.
Listening closely to the door, putting a large hand over her mouth, George silently stared into the darkness of the room with an ear near the door. A pair of footsteps echoed into his ears and his breath caught into his throat as Filch passed by with Mrs Norris beside him. A sigh left his pink lips releasing Ginger from his grasp as more giggles left her and she leaned the top of her head into his built chest like an exhausted child.
Feeling the adrenaline leave him just as fast as it came, he began to relax in that position of her head being on his chest and felt a loopy grin grow on his face. "Alright, we've- we've got to get out of here." He had begun feeling the effects of alcohol overcome his senses once again as he put a hand to the doorknob. No budge. He then applied more force to it. Nothing. He used his shoulder to push against it. Still nothing.
Ginger giggled feverishly beside him at his attempts. George, finally feeling the liquor more and more, began to giggle with her. "How cliché of us," he managed to laugh out not minding the fact he probably wouldn't remember any of this in the morning. She nodded agreeing only laughing more and more being whisked away by the Firewhiskey seeping through her digestive system beginning to feel her knees turn to jelly.
Leaning on George once more when her legs gave out for a moment, they only laughed harder as her attempt to stay up was to grab onto his biceps.
Just then the door flung open. Their heads shot in the direction of whoever could've opened the door, Lee, Fred, and Angelina stood in front of them not looking any better than they did with giggles at the sights of Ginger clinging on to George whose cheeks had been flaring red.
"Let's go before Filch catches us," Angelina looked down the hall paranoid and loopy searching for the odd man.
"I second that!" Ginger giggled out quite loudly as they all shushed her eagerly with similar giggles to hers.
"What a night," Fred breathed out.
