Chapter 12

The air was thick with tension as they all scrambled aboard the ship, their movements frantic but purposeful. Ruby, pale and frail, was gently laid on a medical cot, her breathing shallow. Kylo stood beside her, his face etched with worry. He took her hand, his fingers tracing the delicate lines on her knuckles. "I won't leave you, Master," he promised, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. His eyes held a fierce determination, a silent vow to protect her at all costs.

Ruby's lips curved into a soft, grateful smile. Her eyes, brimming with emotion, met his gaze. "Thanks," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of the ship's engines. With trembling fingers, she reached out, gently grasping the necklace that hung from his neck. She pressed her lips against the cool metal, the gesture filled with unspoken meaning.

As her grip on his hand loosened, Ruby's consciousness began to fade. Her eyelids fluttered, struggling to stay open, before finally closing as she succumbed to the encroaching darkness. Her body went limp, her breathing shallow but steady.

Kyo, his heart racing with concern, tore his eyes away from Ruby's unconscious form. He glanced towards the front of the ship, where Luke had taken up position in the pilot's seat. Bloom sat beside him, her presence a silent comfort in the tense atmosphere.

With a sense of urgency, Kyo turned to Hux, who stood nearby, his face etched with worry. "We need to bind her leg," Kyo said, his voice low and tinged with barely contained panic. His eyes darted to Ruby's lower limb, where a vicious gash had appeared, angry and raw against her pale skin. Blood seeped from the wound, a stark reminder of the danger they had narrowly escaped.

"The med kit," Hux nodded, already moving to retrieve it. "We need to stop the bleeding before—"

His words were cut short as the ship lurched, a reminder that they weren't out of peril yet. Luke's voice carried from the cockpit, tense but controlled. "Strap in, everyone. We're not clear yet."

As Hux returned with the medical supplies, Kyo steeled himself. They had to work quickly, tending to Ruby's wound while navigating whatever challenges lay ahead in the vast, unforgiving expanse of space.

Soon, they shot out of the hyperspace tunnel and back to Coruscant. The beautiful planet sprawled out before them, a glittering orb of light and life against the vast darkness of space. The city-planet's countless buildings and structures formed intricate patterns visible even from orbit, a testament to millennia of galactic civilization.

Hux came back with a med kit, his movements quick and purposeful. The ship's interior lights cast sharp shadows across his face, highlighting the tension in his jaw as he focused on the task at hand. Rey, her own expression a mixture of concern and determination, quickly stripped some bandages from her medpack. Her fingers moved with practiced efficiency, evidence of countless similar situations she'd faced in her eventful life.

Together, Hux and Rey worked to bind Ruby's leg. The wound was angry and raw, a stark contrast to Ruby's pale skin. As they wrapped the bandages tightly around the gash, stemming the flow of blood, the ship continued its descent towards Coruscant's surface.

Luke, at the helm, navigated through the planet's busy skyways with expert precision. Bloom sat beside him, her eyes darting between the viewscreen and the group tending to Ruby, clearly torn between assisting with the landing and helping her injured friend.

The ship's hull hummed as they entered the atmosphere, the sound mingling with the rustle of bandages and the low, concerned murmurs of the crew. Despite the chaos of their recent escape and Ruby's injury, there was a sense of cautious relief. They had made it back to Coruscant, back to relative safety. But as the towering spires of the ecumenopolis grew larger in the viewscreen, it was clear that their adventure - and their challenges - were far from over.

The Arrowhead, its sleek form glinting in the Coruscant sunlight, slowly lowered onto the landing pad. The ship's engines whined as they powered down, and a hiss of equalizing pressure accompanied the lowering of the boarding ramp.

Captain Bloom emerged first, her face set with determination. Luke followed close behind, his Jedi reflexes on high alert as he scanned their surroundings. "We need to move quickly," Bloom said, her voice tight with urgency. "We have to get her to a medical droid immediately."

Without hesitation, Bloom stepped back into the ship and gently lifted the unconscious Empress Ruby into her arms. She cradled Ruby in a bridal carry, the empress's head lolling against Bloom's shoulder. The stark contrast between Ruby's pale, injured form and Bloom's strong, protective stance was a poignant sight.

Their friends fell into formation around them as they disembarked. Kyo and Hux flanked Bloom, while Rey and Luke took point, clearing a path through the gathering crowd. The group moved with purposeful haste towards the Imperial Wing at the foot of the palace.

As they made their way through the city, many who lived in the cityscape turned to watch. Gasps of shock and concern rippled through the onlookers as they recognized their wounded empress. Whispers spread like wildfire, and worried faces peered from windows and balconies.

"Is that the Empress?"

"What happened to her?"

"She looks hurt!"

The murmurs grew louder as more people noticed the procession. Some bowed their heads in respect, while others reached out, as if their touch could somehow help. The crowd's reaction was a mixture of shock, concern, and a fierce protectiveness for their beloved leader.

As they approached the Imperial Wing, the sleek, state-of-the-art medical facility came into view. Its pristine white exterior and softly glowing blue force field promised the best care the galaxy could offer. Palace guards, alerted to the situation, rushed to clear a path for the group.

Bloom tightened her grip on Ruby, her steps never faltering despite the weight in her arms. "Hold on, Ruby," she whispered, her words meant only for the unconscious empress. "We're almost there. You're going to be okay."

The doors of the medical facility slid open with a soft hiss, revealing a team of medical droids already prepped and waiting. As Bloom carried Ruby across the threshold, the gravity of the situation hung heavy in the air. Whatever had befallen their empress, it was clear that the coming hours would be crucial not just for Ruby, but for the entire empire.
