Chapter 5: Waking Up in Newtopia

Marcy groaned, feeling like her head had hit...rather soft dirt. She lifted her head and saw that was exactly the case and stood up, dusting herself off. "Oh, man! 15th fall of the day! Have you been keeping count, girls-"

Her eyes then widened when she saw Anne and Sasha were still nowhere in sight. She kept looking around...before seeing where she was.

A beautiful and pristine CITY. With towers, homes, etablishments, and a bright sunny sky above it all. The buildings had coral covering them, and instead of humans, there were NEWTS. Walking, talking newts who were acting just like humans. Some were working, some were walking and chatting, or going home to their families.

Marcy was silent for a moment...before she began SQUEALING as her eyes went starry. She then began walking, laughing and continuing to squeal. "I-IT...WHOA!!! THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! I'M IN SOME KIND OF ALTERNATE DIMENSION! JUST LIKE-" She then stumbled and nearly fell down a flight of stairs.

She laughed. "That was close!" She then turned around, continuing to squeal in awe or before turning back to the center of the city and seeing a GIANT castle or palace of some kind. "HEY, CASTLE- WHOAAAA!!!" She cried.

Apparently, NOW she started to tumble down the stairs, getting knocked unconscious after the first few steps and tumbling down until she reached the bottom.

How did she not die? That will be revealed later...also plot convenience.

Marcy groaned as she woke up...in a strange looking room that vaguely looked like a hospital room. She looked down and saw a cast over her leg and that she was laying down in a hospital bed.

"Huh? How did...oh, right! I fell down a flight of stairs!" Marcy laughed. "How did I not get a concussion?"

Then? Someone walked into the room...a newt. A light blue newt with long navy blue hair tied into a bun with a band made of seashells. She wore a white yellowish and purple dress with a scale like design stitched into a pattern. And finally, white gloves and a golden brooch with a transparent shawl.

Marcy's jaw dropped. She was actually seeing and face to face with a walking, talking newt. Anne and Sasha would be freaking out right now, but all she wanted to do was squeal.

The newt smiled kindly as she walked over. "How are you feeling?"

"EEEEE- Oh! Uhhh, I'm alright! Thank you for the cast!" Marcy said. "What is this place?! Can I hear every single detail about its history?! And who are you?! You don't have a medical uniform, so you clearly don't work here."

The newt blinked, seeming surprised. "You seem...rather excited." She laughed. "My name is Lady Olivia, and you are in Newtopia. As for the history lesson, that is not my expertise per say. May I know your name?"

"Marcy! Marcy Wu!" She smiled. "I got here after my friend opened-" Her eyes then widened. "Oh, crap! Anne! Sasha! I gotta find them!" She cried, sitting up, but then wincing. "Ow, ow, ow!"

"Easy! Easy!" Olivia said, rushing to Marcy's side. "Your injured your leg. You fell down an entire flight of stairs and you were unconscious for hours! You were lucky the citizens found you and brought you here...and incredibly lucky that all you received from the fall WAS a broken leg."

Marcy nodded. "Yeah, it defies...everything I know about anatomy. I guess I'm durable! Or maybe- No, no, no! Don't get distracted, Marcy! I gotta find my friends! They look like me!" She then blinked. "Kind of! Sasha is a lighter skin color than me, has blonde hair in a ponytail, and has a gray and pink uniform with a blue overcoat! And Anne has brown hair, with light brown skin. Same uniform but with no overcoat, and instead of pink, it's purple!"

Olivia nodded. "Thank you for that description, Marcy. I promise, we will find them. I'll tell the king you're awake. He's personally amazed to meet another creature from out of this world...from HER world." She said with a soft smile.

Marcy tilted her head. "Her world? Who's her?"

"It's better if I tell you the entire story." Olivia said. "Long ago, during ancient times, this world of Amphibia was ruled and terrorized by a shapeshifting creature of darkness dubbed The Night. He was our god, and ruled over us with an iron fist. Frogs, toads, and newts were slaves...until? They showed up. From another world and with great power, came The Three Stars. Heart, Strength, and Wit. They protected our world and battled The Night, stopping him from causing anymore destruction. As The Prophecy foretold."

"Prophecy?" Marcy said, eyes becoming sparkly and starry. "May I hear it?"

Olivia smiled more at how invested Marcy seemed before nodding. "Three stars burning bright, come from beyond to expel The Night. Should they fight or embrace the fall, their choice will determine all. " She finished. "Luckily for us? They chose to fight. They established our current civilization. The frogs are the villagers, the toads are the armies, and the newts command it all. Each Star protected one race, and Wit? She protected us."

She then showed Marcy the view through the window...showing a GOLDEN statue in the middle of Newtopia, with a woman wearing a cloak firing a bow and arrow.

"Whoa!" Marcy cried. "That's Wit?!"

"Indeed it is." Olivia smiled before her face softened. "But then? Tragedy and celebration struck. The Three Stars landed a final assault against The Night, but in the process? Wit lost her life. The Star of Heart lost her beloved wife."

Marcy's face softened and she felt like crying a little. She always hated the tragic love story. And this was over a thousand year old GAY couple! You hardly saw those!

"Wit was buried and we honor her and her comrades over centuries later for what they did for us." Olivia smiled. "I'm sure Frog Valley and all the Toad Towers still honor their heroes like we do ours." She then giggled. "I must say, I haven't met as many as invested in the story as you seem to be."

"It's an interesting story! Humans from over thousands of years ago defeating an ancient monster! I wonder if it had anything to do with the box..." She mumbled the last part, scratching her chin because she remembered three gems on the music box. One blue, one green, and one pink.

Olivia heard the last part and hummed. "Perhaps King Andrias could help you, while I send out some guards or spies to find your friends. I'll be right back." She said, leaving through the door...which was HUGE.

Marcy looked up and saw how huge the room was. It must've been fit for a giant! She then looked out the window and took a deep breath. "Please be okay, Anne. Sasha. I...I hope this was a nice birthday gift though."

30 minutes or so passed by before suddenly? A giant foot came through the door and a GIANT newt came in. If Marcy was standing up, she'd be at the height of his knees. He was very stocky and muscular, with a full white beard. He wore a crown, and had beat up dark brown (or perhaps dark purple) which had a giant X over it, showing that it had seen many battles. Finally, he wore a golden snake belt and purple and yellow tunic.

Marcy dropped the drink she had in her hand, her jaw dropping. "WHOA..."

The giant newt, most definitely the king, looked down and then...smiled from ear to ear and knelt down. "Hellooo! You must be Marcy Wu! It is so nice to meet you!" He said, taking a step forward. He had his arms wide open before remembering she was injured. "Oh! Sorry about that! Broken leg!" He chuckled.

Marcy smiled, giggling. "Nah, it's ok. You must be...King Andrias? It's an honor to meet you, your majesty!"

"Oh, enough with the your majesty!" He laughed, kneeling down to her level. "Just call me King Andrias, or Andrias!"

Marcy smiled. "Alright then, King Andrias!"

Andrias then looked around. "Hmmm, nothing here besides the view of our hero's statue! Must get pretty boring, hmmm?"

"A little, but I'm just so amazed that I'm in another dimension!" Marcy said. "I mean, interdimensional travel is such an implausible topic in our world! But a small little box did just that!"

"A box?" Andrias asked, scratching his beard before gasping. "You must mean The Calamity Box!"

"Calamity Box...?" Marcy asked before suddenly? Andrias brought out a chess board of some kind.

Andrias chuckled. "I tell stories better when I have something else to do! Classic multitasker."

"Is this...chess?" Marcy asked, squealing as she held up one of the pieces.

Andrias just smiled. "This is Flipwart. A strategy game that only the smartest minds in Amphibia can master! Olivia told me you'd seem to be the type to play this!"

Marcy smiled wide and nodded. "Yeah! Yeah! Teach me everything! And I bet I could beat you." She said with a playful smirk.

Andrias laughed wholeheartedly. "I hate to brag, but all of Amphibia says I'm the best Flipwart player in this world. But? I'm FAR from above teaching rookies."

He then began to teach her the rules, which were quite a lot like chess back home, but with different moves for each character. Marcy was becoming giddy before smirking. She then made her first move.

Andrias took a second to make his move before beginning. "The Calamity Box is a magical artifact created by The Night, meant to harness the powers of The Three Stars. When Wit was killed, her energy went inside of the box and inside one of the gems! And sure enough, when The Night was defeated? Heart and Strength told Amphibia that once they passed away, their powers would be transferred into the box for us to use."

Marcy made another move, and then they kept making moves for a while before Andrias continued.

"The box had an amazing ability once Strength and Heart passed on. With three of their powers combined, it could open gateways to OTHER dimensions!"

"WHOA!" Marcy cried, then her jaw dropped. "Fascinating!"

Andrias smiled as he made another move. "I know!"

Marcy giggled, humming as she looked at the board. He definitely was good, or maybe it was because this was her first time playing.

Andrias' face then softened. "My ancestors used it to travel through all kinds of worlds. They were peaceful explorers...until one day, shortly after I became king? The box was missing." His smile then returned. "But! Now we have found it! I'm assuming it's with one of your friends!"

"Most likely!" Marcy said. "Oh, I hope they're alright. It's Anne's birthday and I really wanted to do something special for her...s-she's been my best friend even longer than Sasha has. I mean, I think I might even have a-" She then blushed. "N-Nevermind."

30 more minutes passed...before something mind blowing happened.

Marcy made her final move, and knocked over Andrias' king, or wart.

Andrias' eyes went wide and his jaw nearly dropped to the floor as he stared in AWE. He then looked at Marcy.

Marcy's jaw dropped. "I...I WON!!!" She laughed, throwing her arms into the air and cheering. "WOOT WOOT!"

"And first try!" Andrias laughed. "You have got some real skill! Or perhaps luck!" He then hummed. "How about whenever I visit, we play a few games of this!"

Marcy gasped and nodded at a rapid pace. "Heck yeah! This was really fun! Thanks for playing with me, Andrias!"

Andrias chuckled. "The honor was all mine!" He then stood. "You can keep the board. I have some other matters to attend too." He said with a small wave as he left the room.

When the red moon rose over Newtopia, Andrias was stepping down into his basement, holding a glowing orange torch before he made it into a dark room.

He set the torch against the wall and knelt down, taking off his crown and setting it on the ground. "The Prophecy has not yet been complete, my lord...it seems your theory was correct. The Three Stars have returned, and with the box. Wit, or...Marcy has beaten me in Flipwart. Perhaps...she could serve use. I will keep testing her as you command."

Then? 9 giant and glowing orange eyes snapped open and looked at Andrias.
