Chapter 31: Portals, Portals, Portals
Cloaker grabbed the parts beside him, attaching a saw blade to his foot, repairing the damage done to his arm by replacing it with a construction claw. He then stood up, suddenly having a machine gun come out from his back, aiming around.
He fired, shooting the head off a gargoyle. He smirked, standing up. "This shall suffice...because of Anne Boonchuy's cursed friends and family, I can't even get close to her...I gotta get rid of-"
Then, one of the orbs from his shoulder pad started to glow orange before floating out and then separating into four different pieces, projecting an orange holographic screen...showing Darcy.
Cloaker's eyes widened. "M-My dark master..."
Darcy threw someone, Sasha, into some kind of chamber or cell. She then turned to Cloaker. "Hello, Cloak-Bot."
Cloaker looked at her. "W...Where is the king?"
"...being dealt with. He's lost his usefulness to me." Darcy said. "You do not serve him. You serve me."
Cloaker gulped and nodded. "Y-Yes, my dark master. What is the reason of this call?"
"To check on your progress. Strength has broken the Pink Gem, and NOW? I have to find a way to transfer her powers into my body without the gem by any means necessary." Darcy said, her eyes glowing bright. "I do not take failure lightly. Heart better be dead. Her gem is cracked."
Cloaker's metallic body suddenly felt a shiver, somehow. "...w-working...on it..."
Darcy growled. "So, you've failed?"
"I...I have...her friends and family are getting in the way." Cloaker said. "If I could-"
Darcy's body started to glow orange. "I have thousands of your robot doubles being built in my factories. If I lose you, it will not be a shame, and I won't even bat an eye." She then grinned wickedly. "I am giving you 24 hours before..."
Then? An orange timer was summoned on Cloaker's chest.
"The explosive inside of your chest goes off. If you've killed Heart, it will deactivate." Darcy said. "And it's AI will know if you have or haven't...but fail...? You will be engulfed in an explosion so powerful, there won't be a scrap of your remains left."
Cloaker's eyes widened and he placed his hands on the timer, as if trying to stop it.
Darcy cackled. "Your robotic design was in Heart's honor before she died and reincarnated into Anne Boonchuy. Like her, you could die. Just a lot more brutally."
"B...But what I am spotted-"
Darcy growled. "We are going to invade, and I've seen human's technology. It's primitive compared to ours. Not to mention, this body is a hybrid of flesh, magic, and technology...I do not care if you are seen. KILL HEART OR YOU DIE." She commanded before the screen disappeared.
Cloaker was terrified, but he quickly revved the saw blade up, using it as a wheel to head off.
Meanwhile...
"How's it going down there, girls?" A blue haired scientist called out, looking down at two mechanics building some kind of device.
This is Dr. Terri, a young and astounding scientist that studied astrophysics. But instead of studying chemistry for the ways of OUR universe...she wanted to discover others. Ever since a strange energy came to her lab, opening a portal to an entirely different world and nearly sucking her in.
She had the footage recorded and had been trying to replicate the energy ever since, wanting to use this knowledge for the good of mankind. Intelligence wasn't a privilege, it was a gift. Although, she wasn't too mechanically inclined.
That brings us to two close friends of hers. Jess and Ally, college students that had started an entire reputation for building all kinds of crazy technology. More specifically though, robots. Animatronics, defense, or entertainment. Even an adorable panda bot.
Portals wasn't really their specialty, but they were eager to try something new.
"Going pretty good!" Ally called before turning to her partner and girlfriend. "How's it going with the console, babe?"
Jess lifted her goggles, humming. "I think it's...good!"
Terri smiled before calling Jess and Ally up. "Okay, second test's the charm, right?"
Ally shrugged. "If it doesn't work, we'll keep working on it! Promise!"
Jess gave a thumbs up. "Yeah, Ter! No worries!"
Terri smiled. "Awww, thanks." She then took a deep breath before typing at the console and then pulling a lever.
The machine began glowing a bright blue, whirring before generating an orb of energy in the middle of the room. The orb began to go flat, shaping a...portal.
Massive amounts of wind blew in the room, and all three of them slammed against the wall. That's when the portal closed.
Terri sighed. "Looks like it couldn't sustain itself."
"At least nothing blew up!" Jess said, trying to be optimistic.
Ally covered herself, thinking her girlfriend had jinxed it. She then looked from side to side. "Huh. Guess nothing did blow up-"
That's when...the phone rang...OH, HORROR OF HORRORS-
Terri, Jess, and Ally had taken cover out of pure instinct, thinking something HAD blown up. They then peeked out and Terri laughed. "Oh, just the phone. False alarm!"
She then walked over, answering the phone. "Hello?" Her eyes then widened a bit. "Oh! Hey, Dr. Jan!"
Jess and Ally looked at each other.
Terri then gulped. "If this is about the caveman mannequin I wanted to use for my tests...I promise it's not decapitated- Huh? It's not? Okayyy, go on."
Jess and Ally then stepped over, now peeking over Terri's shoulders.
Terri drank a glass of water as Dr. Jan spoke before she heard the word 'talking frogs from another dimension', and she spat it out into Ally's face. "HUH?!"
Ally cried out, rubbing her eyes...but considering her gloves were sticky with oil, that made it worse. So, Jess was occupied with handling that.
Terri then took a moment. "Okay, okay, you better not be pulling my leg!" She then blinked. "Wait...music box? What music box?"
"You doing okay, babe?" Jess asked, nuzzling Ally's face.
Ally gave a thumbs up. "Yup. I can still see...I hope I didn't jinx it."
Terri then hummed. "So, THAT'S what that strange energy was 6 months ago...okay. Bring them over, and I'll see what I can do. We've had a successful...progression. We're able to generate the portal, but we're working on sustaining it. The wind was too powerful for me to even get a good look at it."
She then smiled. "No problem...wait, what was that about a killer robot?"
The very next day, The Boonchuys and The Plantars came in with Dr. Jan. Polly was still holding Frobo's head close to her. Although, she wished she had LEGS.
Marcy did say they were going to come in two months. So, where were they?
That's when they came across the portal machine. Mr. Boonchuy's eyes widened, while Mrs. Boonchuy looked around. This was definitely something.
Anne looked...a bit worried. What if this wouldn't work? What if it could do worse...? What...what if she couldn't stop The Core? What was she going to do?
Sprig noticed and held her hand. "It's gonna be okay. I know it will be."
Anne gave a weak smile. "T...Thanks..."
Terri smiled at Dr. Jan, who walked over. "Is this them?"
"Yup." Dr. Jan smiled. "I myself am a little curious as to how your progress is going!"
Jess walked over. "Me and Ally did some tweaks! We're hoping it works!"
That's when Ally noticed Frobo and Polly. She walked over, kneeling down. "Hey, little girl. Uhh, I'm Ally!"
Polly wiped her eyes a bit and gave a small smile. "I'm Polly...what's the goggles for?"
Ally smiled. "Oh! I'm a mechanic! A robotics expert to be precise!"
Polly gasped and then quickly showed Frobo's head. "C-Can you fix him?!"
Ally tilted her head and then gently took the head. "Hmmm...fascinating! The motherboard and circuit boards are completely intact! Miraculously! All this guy needs is a body! Jess!"
Jess walked over. "Yeah- OH MY GOD, YOU'RE THE CUTEST THING EVER!" She exclaimed, hugging Polly with starry eyes.
Ally laughed. "Love, control yourself."
"Right, right!" Jess said, gently setting Polly down before looking at Frobo's head. "Oh, hey! What's this?"
"A robot from this girl's world!" Ally then smiled. "He's gonna need a body!"
Jess gasped. "Finally! Another robot to build!"
Anne smiled at the scene before walking over to Terri. "So...does the portal work?"
Terri sighed. "No idea yet. This is our third test so far. You and your friends opening the Calamity Box caused more than one portal to open, and I've been trying to replicate the energy ever since...but I take it you don't have your powers anymore?"
Anne shrugged. "I...I vaguely remember using them during the fight in the castle, but I...I don't wanna remember ANYTHING from...f-from...nevermind. I don't have my powers."
Terri's eyes softened, having a feeling something bad happened. So, she didn't ask. She then went to the console. "Okay...everyone? Stand back!"
Everyone did just that, with Mrs. Boonchuy holding her daughter close. She too seemed to be afraid that it wouldn't work.
But then? Cloaker came crashing in from the ceiling, taking out his machine gun from his back and landing on his feet. He then grabbed Terri with his construction claw, aiming the gun at her. Terri screamed, trying to break free.
Cloaker then looked right at The Plantars, Dr. Jan, Jess, Ally, and The Boonchuys. The timer on his chest only had 30 minutes left. He looked desperate. He had been waiting for the right moment.
Anne growled, stepping forward. "LET-"
"I am only going to say this once!" Cloaker boomed. "Surrender yourself, Anne! Or your only way back to Amphibia gets a few bullets in her brains!"
Anne's eyes widened and she froze.
Cloaker grinned. "...take a few steps back."
Anne, not wanting to risk an innocent woman's life, did as she was told.
Cloaker smirked before throwing Terri onto the floor and then lunged at Anne, showing his robotic claws with a glowing orange light at the palm.
Anne felt like everything was going in slow motion as everyone in the room screamed. The orange light...robotic hand...
Marcy...
That's when something SNAPPED inside of her. Anne screamed at the top of her lungs, her eyes and hair emerging in a purely blue color. She then flew towards Cloaker, slamming her fist into his face.
Cloaker screamed, flying across the room and slamming against the wall.
Anne flew over to Cloaker, screaming as she stared into his glowing orange eyes. She then headbutted him before tearing off his arm with her bare hands. She then slammed her fist into his chest, her arm going right through his back like a sword.
Cloaker's eyes flickered before his eyes went black and he fell. Anne breathed heavily before ripping out her hand...and that's when she fell to her knees.
The timer on Cloaker's chest stopped. "Explosive deactivated."
Anne's blue color disappeared again, and The Boonchuys and The Plantars rushed over to her, helping her stand.
"Anne...what was that!?" Mr. Boonchuy exclaimed, checking every area on his daughter to make sure she was ok.
"That was her powers! She still has them!" Hop Pop exclaimed.
Jess hummed. "Or at least a little bit...she didn't seem to be at full power."
Terri dusted herself off...before energy began crackling around the room. But instead of JUST a blue light powering up the portal. There were two other colors.
Pink and Green.
Then? The portal opened wide, causing everyone in the lab to see. But before they could even see what was inside? Two people came flying out of the portal, flying and fighting each other.
One a human girl with crimson gladiator armor and her eye having a giant scar across it. Her hair was glowing a bright pink, with the same bright energy covering her body as her cape blew in the wind.
The other was some kind of demoness, with a black and crimson cape and dark armor. She had a sword made purely of fire in her grip. She had the cracked Blue Gem on her chest, and finally? A helmet with long and sharp horns. The helmet had 9 orange eyes...with the Green Gem serving as the 10th eye.
Anne's eyes widened in HORROR. The Night. The Core. The demon from her dream.
Darcy and Sasha lunged at each other, with Darcy slashing her across the chest before headbutting her through the ceiling and then flying after her as the two continued fighting.
