Chapter 19: Wit's Temple
Anne woke up with a yawn before seeing The Plantars...staring at her in the face. She yelped, flying up in the air.
"Oh, sorry! Marcy let us in." Sprig said, although he was still kinda suspicious.
Anne blinked before sighing. "You weren't watching me sleep, were you?"
The Plantars...didn't respond. They just stared at her. Staring and staring-
"UHHH, OKAY. STOP." Anne said, floating down.
Hop Pop chuckled. "The Plantars always had a habit of creepily staring. Anyway, Marcy said The King's discovered something about the box!"
"Really?! Awesome!" Anne said before she polished her armor a bit and then walked out into the throne room with The Plantars.
Marcy was next to...well, a frog robot. Literally. The robot itself looked like an old solider wit bulky shoulder pads and a bulky body in general. It was a brown color, with a cheerful smile and yellow eyes. Marcy seemed to know it.
The Plantar's eyes widened and Polly eventually squealed. "What is that?!"
Marcy turned and then smiled. "Oh! Hey, Plantars! Hey, Anne!"
Anne walked over to the frog robot. "Is...this?"
"A cybernetic frog shaped solider? Yup!" Marcy smiled. "This is Frobot! Or Frobo for short! Say hi, big guy!"
Frobo smiled and waved. He seemed to be unable to talk.
"Hey, robo dude!" Anne said before turning to Marcy as Frobo walked over to The Plantars, looking at them curiously.
Polly hopped over. "Look at you! I think I've seen one of you 'robots' in Anne's 'TV Shows' before!"
Frobo seemed to like the sound of the words she was saying, even though he didn't quite understand. He laughed...his laughter detached his head from his body, and the laughter itself was horrifying.
Sprig and Hop Pop hugged each other while Polly squealed. "YOU'RE EVEN COOLER NOW!"
Anne giggled before facing Marcy again. "Where'd you find this guy?"
"Oh, Yunan and I were on another adventure and we came across some creepy factory, and we may have accidentally used the system to build Frobo!" Marcy said. "He's been this place's guardian along with me ever since!" She then hummed. "Which fascinates me...technology isn't that strong here. So, was there ever a time where it WAS more advanced? Maybe even more advanced than our home?"
Anne shrugged. "Who knows, Mar-Mar?"
"Oh, I missed that nickname!" Marcy said, her cheeks turning red. "Anna-Banana."
Anne blushed a bit and laughed, rubbing the back of her neck.
Hop Pop watched the scene and NOW he knew why Anne kicked him at the mention of a 'boyfriend'. It seemed like she WAS into somebody...just not any boy.
Sprig noticed too and quickly became protective, hopping next to Anne and lightly pushing her away. "Sooo, totally not evil Marcy, what did the King say?"
Marcy blinked before chuckling. "Right, right, right! Got distracted! Anyway, let's go!"
After heading into the throne room, Andrias waited for them with a goofy grin. "There you all are! So! Ask me if I've found out anything about the box!"
"Have you-"
"BINGOOOOO!" Andrias exclaimed before he pulled out a book, which was slightly dusty. He blew on it, and then brushed it with his hand before opening it. "Deep in the Royal Library was this book, telling everything of how the box worked and how to recharge it! Guess who wrote it?"
Marcy hummed before she took a guess. "Someone close to the Three Stars?"
"Close, Marcy!" Andrias said before he showed an 'About The Author' page...it was Strength. She wrote this book.
Anne's eyes widened and she walked closer, gently taking the book and reading aloud. "I am a few years from finally meeting the end of my seemingly eternal life. I have lived a life I could never imagine back on Earth. Here, I am stronger and better than any man or woman who said I would never be able to defend myself or fight, and that my only purpose was to be a mother. I have lived as a warrior queen and had the best friends ever known. Heart has passed away a happy woman, and I will be joining her soon...but what The Night told us worries me. Heart and I have been planning for a way to fight back, and we hope Wit can hear us."
"Whoa...for someone based around Strength, she seems gentle." Sprig said, looking at the book.
Anne hummed before flipping to a few pages. "Huh?"
"According to this book, Strength built Three Temples in honor of herself and her friends, one for each star. They were made to recharge the stones of the Calamity Box, so the people of Amphibia could use it for the greater good! My ancestors used it to visit entirely different universes! They were frail and peaceful explorers." Andrias said.
Marcy hummed before gasping. "It shows the location of The First Temple! Wit's Temple!" She laughed. "Guess it's mine then, cause I'm all about the brains!"
"And you have her powers." Polly added, sitting on Frobo's shoulder.
Marcy nodded. "That too! Let's go conquer this bad boy!" She then whistled, calling out for someone.
And sure enough? A giant sparrow wearing armor flew in. The Plantars seemed a bit nervous before Marcy walked over and pressed her forehead against the sparrow's.
"Guys? This is Joe Sparrow! While me and Anne can fly, he can take you to the skies!" Marcy smiled.
Polly squealed before she and Frobo got on Joe Sparrow, with Hop Pop following. Sprig narrowed his eyes, but Anne eventually held him.
"Need help?" Anne laughed, flying up and placing him on Joe Sparrow.
Sprig eventually sighed. "Alright, alright."
Marcy and Anne then flew up in the air before they flew off, with Joe Sparrow following them. Andrias gave a goofy little wave as he watched them fly away.
They arrived at the temple 30 minutes later, with Anne and Marcy landing. Joe Sparrow landed next, and The Plantars hopped off, with Frobo following.
Marcy hummed. "Alright, let's do this!"
Anne then held her shoulder. "Okay, Mar-Mar. So, since this is some brain thing? There's gonna be puzzles or games...you have to PROMISE not to get too sucked in."
"I don't get too sucked in!" Marcy said.
Anne narrowed her eyes. "Uhh, yes you do! It's one of the main reasons you're so clumsy!"
"Well, I promise I won't be sucked in!" Marcy said before she sniffed something. "Huh, is there someone having a barbecue?"
"YOUR CAPE'S ON FIRE AGAIN." Anne exclaimed.
Marcy shrieked, stepping on her cloak again and again until the fire was out. She sighed in relief before she began walking up the steps to the temple door...only to fall down them.
Polly sighed. "Oh, boy."
After finally getting into the temple, they immediately ran into the first trial. On a pedestal, Marcy saw some kind of cube. Marcy grabbed it, the cube itself being jagged and messed up. It looked to be a puzzle of some kind. But that's when she was trapped inside of a green orb. "Huh?!"
"MARCY!" Anne cried, flying up and punching the orb to try and get her out. But it didn't break. "Are you okay!? CAN YOU BREATHE?!"
"Y-Yeah! I'm fine!" Marcy said, but then looked back at the puzzle again. "Hmmm...I have to make it a cube again, don't I? Give me a second!" She chuckled. "This temple's not beating me..."
She turned a side of the cube...causing the WALL to turn, flipping Anne and The Plantars on their back. Marcy turned another side, and it happened with the middle floor. Anne eventually grabbed The Plantars, hovering in the middle of the air with them.
Frobo hopped into the air, but couldn't reach Anne.
"Sorry, dude! You're too heavy, heh!" Anne said. "No offense!"
Frobo raised a hand, showing he wasn't offended before the wall turned and he flipped onto his stomach again.
But then, pieces of the floor started coming out and nearly smashing Frobo. Frobo gulped.
Anne then quickly dodged an incoming piece of the ceiling. "UHH, MARBLES?!"
Marcy didn't hear her, almost blocking her out. "Almost...almost..."
This continued for a while, with Marcy being too focused on the game to notice Anne and the others dodging and crying out. Eventually, Marcy finished.
"HA!" Marcy cried as the orb floated back down and disappeared. "Easy peasy! C'mon!" She cried, running to the next trial.
Anne sighed. "She promised she wouldn't get distracted. Promise broken."
"Maybe because she's evil...?" Sprig asked.
Instead of arguing with him, they just gave him a look before following Marcy into the next trial. Now, they were looking at a tiled floor, with multiple colored tiles. Some green, and others blue. They would have to get through this puzzle in order to get to the other side-
"Well, this should be easy. Marcy and Anne can just fly everyone across!" Hop Pop said.
Marcy blinked. "Wait! What if it WANTS us to do that? Take the easy way out?" She then began thinking. Okay, so the green and blue tiles got to mean something. Maybe...green is good, and blue is bad?"
Anne slowly flew down and touched one of the blue tiles. Nothing happened. "Uhhh, nothing's happening!"
Marcy scratched her chin. "Maybe you just gotta step over it?"
Anne gulped and slowly stepped on the blue tile. Nothing happened.
Anne then pressed on it with both of her feet. Nothing happened. "This puzzle's broken."
Marcy scratched her head before flying down, stepping on the green tile. "Okay? Weird...there's gotta be more to this." It then hit her and she laughed. "Oh, I get it!"
"You do?" Polly asked.
"This puzzle's meant to make people overthink! Make people think there's more to it when in reality? It's completely safe!" Marcy laughed.
Anne eventually stepped on a green tile, and Marcy stepped on a blue one. The two tiles started to glow, and suddenly? Anne and Marcy's powers activated.
Then? Green and blue energy began to wisp across the two. Anne and Marcy hugged each other before the wisps floated in front of them...and they began taking shape.
The Plantars and Frobo watched in awe before they saw something rather shocking, at least to them.
The wisps took form as...Heart and Wit. But as blue and green holograms almost. Heart held both of Wit's hands, pressing her forehead against Wit's. Wit giggled before she wrapped her arms around Heart's neck, with Heart eventually wrapping her arms around Wit's waist.
That's when music began playing from somewhere...it almost sounded like...wedding music? But with a different tune to it, less for the ceremony and more for dancing.
Heart and Wit began to slow dance across the room, holding each other hand in hand with the biggest and happiest smiles on their faces. Heart's gaze was soft, while Wit's was just...happy.
Eventually, Heart twirled Wit around softly before holding her close again. She then dipped Wit, pulling her back up seconds later. Wit smiled before she cupped Heart's face and kissed her. That's when the holograms and music completely faded.
Anne and Marcy's hair and eyes went back to normal, and Anne couldn't help but squeal. "That was so cute!!!"
"They looked so good together!" Marcy said before she looked at Anne and blushed madly. "A-Anyway! Let's g-get to the last trial!"
They then walked off into the third and final trial. A pedestal stood in the middle of the room, with some kind of hole in it. A hole likely for the Green Gem in the Calamity Box.
Anne took out the Calamity Box, giving Marcy one of the gray gems she remembered the Green Gem was now.
Marcy smiled before she placed the gem into the pedestal. Her powers activated again and the green energy from the last trial returned.
But it went into a statue of Wit. The statue glowed green before it suddenly stepped off its plate, moving fluently like it was alive.
"What the?!" Marcy exclaimed.
Then, Wit summoned a bow and arrow in her hands, both of which were glowing green. She then aimed three arrows at Marcy, firing them at her.
Marcy gasped and quickly used her powers to dodge each of them using her crossbow to fire her own arrows back at Wit.
Wit, with the same speed as Marcy, zoomed away from them. The two, zooming across the room as green blurs, kept firing arrows at each other, none of the arrows actually hitting anything.
Anne activated her powers, ready to help. But she hit something as she tried to run in. She ran in again, and saw there was some kind of green energy field.
Marcy had to do this herself.
Wit zoomed right next to Marcy before spinning around and kicking her to the wall. Marcy bounced off the wall, flying in the air. She then loaded her crossbow with energy arrows, all of them glowing green. She then fired all of them at Wit, hoping to hit a weak point. Wit was hit by all the arrows and she tumbled, but her statue like body did not break.
Marcy narrowed her eyes before flying down. She then fired an arrow into Wit's face, but Wit caught it with her hand. Marcy gulped before she eventually grabbed something from her bag, and then threw it down. It was a smoke bomb.
Wit cried out, confused as she waved her arms around.
Marcy then flew behind Wit, and stabbed a firework like arrow into her back. Wit was sent flying as the arrow exploded, and she slammed against the wall.
"WAY TO GO, MAR-MAR!!!" Anne cheered.
Marcy smiled before facing Wit again. Wit looked at Marcy in the eyes, before taking her bow and arrow...but she didn't aim it at her. She aimed it at Sprig. Marcy's eyes widened. "NO!"
Wit fired, the arrow going through the field.
Sprig cried out, but before he could do anything? Marcy zoomed over and punched the arrow away from hitting Sprig. The little pink frog looked at Marcy in awe.
Sasha would never bother to save him. His eyes then sparkled. "Trustworthy...!"
Marcy smiled before she faced Wit again, ready to fight.
But then, Wit threw aside her bow and arrow and then got back on her plate, slowly going back to a statue.
Marcy became very confused as the green field disappeared. The Plantars, Frobo, and Anne rushed over, with Anne hugging Marcy tightly.
"I think you won!" Anne laughed.
Marcy nodded. "I think so-" But then? She felt a sharp pain and fell to her knees. Her eyes and hair were glowing a brighter green than EVER.
But slowly, the glow faded and went inside of the Green Gem, returning it to it's original state.
Marcy fell into Anne's arms, feeling a bit drained before her strength regained shortly. She sighed. "I guess a cost is that I lose my powers..."
Anne's eyes softened. "Hey, you never needed those powers to be awesome."
Marcy giggled. "Awww, Anne-"
Then? Sprig hopped over. "Hey, Marcy? I...I'm sorry for thinking you were evil. You saved my life!"
"Any friend of Anne's is a friend of mine!" Marcy said, looking down at Sprig with a kind smile.
Anne smiled at the two before picking up the Green Gem, placing it in the Calamity Box...but as she looked at the gem...it looked...familar.
Like the one she saw in her nightmare. With the burning ooze, the pink girl...and the demon.
Meanwhile...
Andrias sat in his throne before seeing Yunan walk over, looking injured. "Yunan? Is everything alright?"
"The Toad Queen, uhh, resisted arrest." Yunan said.
Andrias hummed. "That's a shame. Keep an eye on her, but rest up." He said before a bug flew in, carrying a letter. Andrias gasped and grabbed the letter, gently opening it and looking it over. "It's a message from Marcy! They have the first gem charged!"
He then stood from his throne, patting Yunan's head. "Rest for now, Yunan. I'll handle the rest."
After he left the throne room, he returned to the dark room lit only by candlelight and torch. He bowed, placing his crown on the ground again. "My Lord, Marcy and her friends have succeeded in charging the Green Gem."
9 orange eyes opened up in the darkness again, looking down at Andrias.
"The Prophecy is being undone. Marcy is the one." Andrias said, looking up at his master. "And your theory was correct...Marcy. Anne. The Toad Queen...they're reincarnations of The Three Stars. It is no longer a coincidence that they look and act so similar."
The orange eyes glowed brighter.
"Yes, my lord. It will be done."
