"What did you want to talk about?" Sam asked when her and Sadie got out of Eli's car back at her house, standing in the driveway under the night sky. "I'm really sorry about the party. I don't want us to fight anymore."
"That's actually what I just need to talk to you about." Sadie rubbed her nose and was avoiding looking at Sam. "I just...I feel like we rushed things."
Sam pulled a confused look as her face fell. "What? We've been together for months."
"Yeah, I know." Sadie sighed as she clamped both her hands behind her back. "There just, there's a lot of things I still need to deal with, so I can be better for us, and I-"
"What are you talking about? You're a great girlfriend to me." Sam stopped her.
"It's not all about you." Sadie stopped her from interrupting her. Sam stared at her as Sadie took a breath and shook her head. "I'm just-I just don't think I was ready to get into a relationship yet."
Sam blinked, her eyes watered. "So, what? You've just been sitting on this for months?"
"No." Sadie shook her head. "Do you not understand what i'm saying to you? I need to figure out things about myself first, so the both of us can be secure in our relationship. This is on me, how I feel."
"You don't think I'm a good girlfriend? Is this about the party? Because i'm s-" Sam began, trying to find any way of saying anything.
"It's not about the party, okay? This is about me, about what i'm feeling." Sadie pointed to herself, her voice broke as Sam scanned over her face. "I need to take a break from this, from focusing all my attention on you and ignoring everything i'm feeling."
Sam never assumed Sadie had meant her health, she'd simple assumed she was a bad girlfriend and Sadie needed to figure out if she liked Sam still, if she was worth being in a relationship with. "Okay."
"Doesn't mean we c-" Sadie began, stopping when she was cut off.
"I'm sorry." Sam whipped a tear, trying to hold herself together. "I should probably go in."
Sadie wanted to tell her she didn't need to be sorry, that it wasn't on her, that she did nothing wrong. But, as she went to, she realized she had no energy left to do it. Sam walked into her house, leaving the Vesper girl there for a second longer before she left as well. Not to go home, but to the closest liquid store she could use her fake ID from Rico in.
"I think you did the right thing." Miguel said as him and Sadie sat together, him listening to her talk. "If you need to take a step back, you need to take a step back."
"Yeah, but she's blaming herself." Sadie said back, taking a sip of the beer and offering a sip to Miguel. "And I wanted to tell her it wasn't her fault, go into this massive speech on how she's been an amazing girlfriend and it's me that's the problem, but I just couldn't find any energy to say it."
"You aren't the problem, okay? You have to put yourself first. It isn't your fault you want focus on yourself before getting serious with a relationship." Miguel said back with a shake of his head. "It's totally normal. Sams acting the way she is because she loves you and doesn't understand."
"She really doesn't understand." Sadie agreed with an inhale. "Sams always had everything handed to her, you know? That isn't her fault, and it isn't necessarily a bad thing. But she doesn't understand that sometimes everything isn't always about her. But, it's not like I can blame her, her parents have always made everything about her."
"Yeah, i've noticed that." Miguel agreed. "I think, when you're ready, you should just tell Sam exactly what you're feeling, exactly what's putting a wedge between the two of you. Maybe that'll help her understand that it isn't on her that's wrong, that sometimes people just need to love themselves before loving everyone else."
Sadie gave him a small smile. "You'd be a good boyfriend, Miguel."
He gave her the beer back, pretty much just holding it the entire time. "Oh, and by the way, don't check twitter."
"Why? What's happening on twitter?" Sadie looked in confusion.
"Oh my fucking god." Sadie spoke in disbelief as she pushed her way into the backyard later that night. "Sensei!"
"Fangs!" he looked over. "Finally, i've been looking for you."
"I thought we formed an alliance?" she looked in confusion with a crazy look across her face. "We're fighting now?"
"Sadie." Demetri called her over. Sadie met Sams eye, seeing her standing with the flag. The LaRusso girl broke their eye contact, looking away. Sadie frowned.
"You guys break up too?" Johnny asked her, slapping her arm.
"Sorta, yeah." Sadie sighed with an inhale. "Just, as always, my fucked up problems getting in the way."
"We've all got fucked up problems." his words were meant to reassure her that she wasn't alone, but to Sadie, it just made whatever she was feeling being even more pushed to the side while she assume everyone went through crying spells, couldn't get out of bed, didn't want to move, then would be okay for about two weeks, then have it happen again.
Sam and Miguel walked onto the mat. "Face us. Bow."
Sadie looked around hesitant. "Eli's not gonna be here?"
"I don't guess so." Demetri shrugged. "Why? You finally wanna talk to him?"
"No, I was just wondering." Sadie mumbled, putting her hands into her jacket pockets, watching Sams curls bouncing as she stood infront of the two.
"Face each other. Bow." Sam encouraged, making the pair do so. Taking their stances, Miguel and Sam waved the flag between the pair. "Fight!"
Johnny kicked at Daniel a few times, Sadie watched curiously as she blinked away her tiredness. With a few hand to hand combat, Johnny punch Daniel in the side. The crowd oouued as Sam stepped forward, waving the flag. "Point, Lawrence."
"Sensei Lawrence strikes first!" Chris called.
"True to the motto painting of his former dojo wall and carved into his very being!" Mitch added in to Chris's words, getting a weird look. "What? I'm trying to capture spirit of th-the thing."
"Score, 1-0 Lawrence." Miguel spoke from behind his sensei.
They went back to fighting, testing each other, swinging their hands as Daniel did a mini crane, kicking Johnny harshly. Miguel waved the flag. "Point, LaRusso!"
"I really don't even wanna know what caused them to do this." Sadie shook her head with an exhale. "I don't even know why we all came."
"The drama, i'm pretty sure." Meat nodded.
"Sore 1-1." Miguel announced, him and Sam holding the flags out again as the pair took their stance. "Ready!"
"Fight!" Sam called, the couple backing up as Johnny sent a string of kicks toward Daniel, missing him each time. They performed hand to hand combat, Daniel knocking Johnny in the stomach.
The crowd yelled out in loud cheers. Chris held his camera. "Hell yeah! Two-to-one. LaRusso takes the lead."
"This would be when you bite the crap out of someone?" Demetri asked her. "If that was you."
"Most likely." Sadie agreed.
"All he has to do is score one more point and LaRusso is the winner." Mitch spoke from Chris' other side.
Sam and Miguel took the middle again, flags rose. "Scores 2-1 LaRusso. Ready!"
Daniel pulled some hand movements, ones he'd taught his Miygai-Dos plenty of times.
"Fight!" Sam added, the two backing up as they did twice before. Johnny spun to try and kick Daniel, the LaRusso man blocking him with his raised hands each time. He hit him in the arm, getting a wince from Lawrence. Johnny looked in disbelief, jumping up as his legs went around Daniels waist, pulling him down on the mat with a hit to the chest. The crowd cheered again, Miguel giving the point to Johnny.
Sadie watched Sam the whole time, staring at her pale skin, her blue eyes, the way her curls fell down her shoulders.
Miguel and Sam announced the 2-2 score again, waving their flags, yelling for them to fight. Johnny charged at Daniel full speed, trying to kick him as Daniel dodged each one. Daniel got hold of his shoulders, throwing him over as Johnny did a forward roll.
As they stood, the pair punched at each other, Johnny moving as Daniel fell into one of the wooden post. Sadie winced as the crowd did the same, Johnny attempting to finish him with a kick, Daniel dodging it once again. They went through a string of punches once again, taking turns blocking each other, doing the same with their kicks.
Spinning around, Daniel kicked Johnny in the face as Johnny punched him in the face, the pair both hitting the mat.
"Jesus." Sadie winced.
"Point, LaRusso!"
"Point, Lawrence!"
Miguel looked to Sam. "Are you sure?"
"Are you sure?" she asked him right back.
"Check the replay!" Demetri cut in toward Chris.
Sam walked over, and she was so close to Sadie. The Vesper girl went to open her mouth, to say something, but was cut short.
Chris played the video as they all watched. Johnny shook his head. "Go to another angle."
Chris looked back at him. "There is no other angle."
"Don't you guys have another phone?" the blonde man gave a stupid look.
"Hawk?" Miguel voice rung, making them look over as the boy in a black hoodie emerged from the fence.
Sadie saw his tears first, holding her head higher in confusion.
He slowly rose his hands, pulling the hood back as it revealed his mowhawk chopped off, only a few purple hairs left. The crowd gapped in shock. Sadie felt her heart drop, her eyes widening, a wave of protectiveness ran over her.
Johnny pushed through to stand infront of him. "Who did this?"
"Cobra Kai." Eli said back after a second, keeping his eyes down. He pulled his hood back on.
"Kreese and Silver did this. They need to pay." Johnny spoke up.
"No shit." Sadie agreed.
"Jesus, Johnny. Please." Daniel said in disbelief. "Kreese tried to kill you. You wanna fight them both?"
"Look what they did." Johnny threw an angered finger backwards toward Hawks
"Dousing the fire with gasoline, that's your answer?" the LaRusso sensei asked him in return. "Why am I not surprised?"
"Sensei, stop." Miguel cut in with a soft look toward Johnny.
"Why should he?" Sadie looked over in disbelief. "Are you not seeing what just happened here?"
"You still think your way is the only way." Johnny glared at Daniel. "You were so proud when they pulled their little sprinkler prank the other day. But if they stood their ground and kicked some ass like I taught them, this never would've happened."
"And if they fight every time they're provoked, where does that lead?" Daniel shot back at him soon after. "Back to the hospital? Or to jail? Come on, just because you've spent your share time in both-"
"Enough, Dad." Sam cut in, grabbing his arm to pull him back. "Johnny and Sadie are right. It doesn't matter how many times we stand up to Cobra Kai, if we don't strike back, they're gonna keep coming at us."
Sadie nodded, making eye contact with Sam again.
Daniel stared at Johnny in disbelief. "And you were worried about my influence on your kids? Is this what you want, Johnny? To have my daughter and the rest of my students acting like you?"
Johnny stared at him with a glare. "You don't have to worry about it anymore. Cause we're done."
Daniel nodded. "Works for me."
"Eagle Fangs, let's go." Johnny turned around, walking off as his students followed.
Sadie wanted to talk to Sam, she wanted to explain, she wanted to confine in her. They held eye contact, Sadie nodded. "I really want us to talk."
"We will." Sam promised her.
Sadie followed after Miguel, jogging to catch up to Eli. He looked over, her hand sneaking into his hoodie to whip the tears off his face, nodding her head. "Let's go home."
