CHAPTER FIFTY THREE—
the vampire in the lazy pool.
"Samantha, what are you doing?" Sadie panted as she walked her way, covered in water. "Come fly down that slide with me."
"Ugh, no." Sam laughed at her destressed state. "You look like you just ran a marathon."
"It's fun." she leaned over and shook her head to get water all over her as Sam smacked her with her book. "Please? Just one."
"I wanna finish this chapter." Sam looked up at her with a knowing look. "But i'm not going down a slide no matter what."
"Fine." Sadie held her hands up, squeezing the water from her bathing suit. "Lazy pool?"
Sam gave a hesitant look. "After my chapter!"
"Of course." Sadie nodded as she sat down. "I'll get sit here and try to tempt you."
Sam looked over her book in disbelief as her girlfriend purposely tried to model. "Are you kidding?"
"What?" Sadie leaned back on her elbows. "I'm just casually soaking up the sun."
"Oh my god." Sam laughed in disbelief with her. "You're the worst ever."
"Tell me you love me." Sadie encouraging, poking her in the leg. "Say it or i'm gonna bite you."
"Don't you bite me." Sma warned, too late as Sadie bit her knee. "Ow!"
"Tell me!" she threatened her.
"Fine, I love you." Sam gave her an insane look. "You can't bite me to get whatever you want."
"Yes I can." she leaned against her legs. "How's your chapter going?"
"I've only read three words because of you." she tried to focus more.
"Right. Shutting up." Sadie agreed as she looked out at the water park. "Where's Anthony? I wanna see if he'll hang from his feet on the zip line."
"Oh my god." Sam shoved her book into her bag. "I finished my chapter. Let's go."
"Must have been a short chapter." Sadie laughed, getting up as they headed toward the pool. "Wanna tube?"
"Yes, I wanna tube." Sam said in return as Sadie got them one, helping her in before joining her. Their legs were across each other's as Sadie gave her a cheesy grin. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Can I not admire you?" she gasped in shock. "Last summer, I wanted to murder you. Remember?"
"Mhm." Sadie rose her eyebrows. "Some development. Not like you just took a bite out of my leg or anything."
Sadie smiled at her again. "You can take the girl out of the fangs but you can't take the fangs out of the girl."
"Ah, is that so?" Sam had to laugh at her. "I'm having a hard time processing that."
"I am too now that I said it out loud." she admitted honestly as they both laughed. Their joy-filled moments came to a quick end when there was a harsh push to their tube from underneath, both of the girls flipping over the side and being taken under the water.
Sam came up first, Sadie quick after while Kyler laughed with a couple Cobra Kais a few feet away. Sam turned back to get Sadie, seeing she'd already been gone and disappeared from her sight. She looked around, in search of if she'd gotten out on the side. A shout caught her attention, looking back at the Cobra Kais and seeing Kyler gone.
"Where'd he go?" the redhead boy yelled out as he looked around the lazy pool. "I can't see him!"
Sam frowned her eyebrows together and watched them search for Kyler in the pool, only for a shout to echo near the end as Kyler popped up and held his cheek. "My face, bro! A chunk outta my face!"
Kylers face bleed as he clutched it, Sam saw Sadie pop up a few feet away as she crawled out of the pool and looked back at the blood in the water. "Damn, Kyler. Did you start your period?"
Sam exhaled with a shake of her head, getting out of the pool and encouraging her to follow back to where she wanted to be the entire time anyways.
"I hate you." Sadie rolled her eyes as she was forced into giving Hawk the huge pineapple from her drink. "You cheat."
"How can I cheat at Rock Paper Scissors?" he gapped in disbelief, taking it from her. "Maybe if you'd stop choosing rock for everything."
"Rock should crash through paper. This game makes no sense." she rolled her eyes and looked toward Sam. "Samantha, back me up."
She held a finger up. "Sadie, I am trying so hard to get through this chapter."
"You're still on that chapter?" she gapped. "It's been an hour."
"Yeah, and you won't stop talking long enough to let me read." she argued with her, not taking her eyes off the book.
"I talk too much. I don't talk enough." Sadie listed on as Miguel and Hawk hid a laugh at the look on Sams face. "She can't make her mind up, really."
The sound of familiar voices arguing had caught their attention as Sadie sat up. "Is that Devon? What's that little punk saying to her?"
"You kidding me with this bullshit again?" Eli glared as Tory and Robby ran over to get between them."There's Keene. I thought you said he wasn't in Cobra Kai anymore."
"That's what sensei told me." Miguel sat up too.
"Sounds like bullshit to me." Sadie stood up. "I'm going to back up Devon. Sam, you coming?"
"I'm gonna stay here." she said in return, clearly just wanting to stay out of it after their promise to just give karate a break. The boys followed Sadie over.
"Hey. What are you doing?" Miguel shoved Robby in the chest.
"You stay out of this." he threatened.
"You letting this little boy disrespect you?" Sadie elbowed Devon as she stood by her side. "Huh?"
"No." Devon defended herself. "I'm not!"
"Good." Sadie shoved a finger toward Kenny. "You leave her alone, unless you wanna get kicked in the face again."
"Says the one that stumbled around the mat and hit face first." he mocked her.
"Because your team couldn't handle the competition." Sadie scoffed as she eyed him up and down. "Says the one who's pushing four feet."
The whistle blew loudly as the lifeguard glared at them. "Stop it. All of you. Or you're all getting kicked out."
"Okay, clearly we can't co-exist in peace." Miguel shook his head, putting a hand on Sadie's arm to encourage her to back off. "Let's find a solution."
"We can't fight. We'll get kicked out so what are we suppose to do?" Mitch looked toward Miguel for an answer.
"We need to go." Robby looked to Tory.
"No." she argued.
"How about a race?" Bert suggested to get all of their attention. They all looked up at the slide above them.
Eli looked to Sadie for some sort of permission as she nodded, making him step up. "Yeah. I'll go."
Tory stepped forward with a smile. "So will I."
"Champ versus champ!" Kyler announced.
"Whoever wins gets the park." Tory nodded her head.
"Deal." Eli smirked after her. "But you won't win."
"Don't let her win." Sadie shook her head at Eli, feeling competitiveness form in her chest.
"I won't." he nodded his head as they both hurried off to get their tubes and head to the top.
"Three! Two! One!" Kyler yelled as Tory and Eli both went down the slides. "Let's go!"
Sadie stood next to Miguel and Devon, squinting as she watched the slides. She exhaled loudly and tossed her hands up when Tory came out of the slide first, cheering with her hands up.
Not long after, Eli followed with a inflated tube. "You cheated, there was a hole in my tube!"
Torys face fell as she looked over, having cheater chanted in their direction. Eli got out and immediately went toward Kenny. "Dipshit. I know this was you."
"What are you gonna do about it?" Kenny gave him a look of disbelief.
"I'm not gonna strike first if that's what you think." he scoffed down to him. "You don't have the balls to anyway."
Kenny nodded, looking like he was gonna step away before he threw a punch, just to get ur dodged. Sadie held Devon's shoulders. "He's half my size, you think you can take him?"
"When's that stopped you before?" Devon gave a look.
"That's true." Sadie agreed as her and Miguel hurried over in their direction.
Tory caught her arm to yank her back. "Hey. Don't get in the middle of it."
"Why not?" Sadie yanked her arm free. "That's your kid that's starting fights, someone's gotta finish em."
"Sounds like something i've heard before." Tory said in return as she stood infront of her. "I'm trying to avoid this."
"And I respect you for that. But your little friends are pushing it." Sadie glared as she looked over just as Miguel shoved Robby after he tossed Eli into the pool. "It'd be a lot easier to respect you as a person if you didn't associate yourself with a bunch of cheating assholes, Tory. Learn from my mistakes, it never ends well."
Tory let Sadie's words stick with her.
