CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR—
a chicken abortion.

"You're looking a little green over here." Miguel stoped at Sadie's side, watching her watch Sam talk to Robby. "Is it Robby?"

"I just don't get why he's back. He should be banned." she rolled her eyes and continued to stretch her legs.

"I think he's really trying." Miguel pointed out as she gave him a look of disbelief. "What? Do you want me to say just whatever you want to hear?"

"Yes!" she exclaimed with a crazy look. "Obviously, what else would I want you to do?"

Chozen yelled for them all to line up.

"So, where are my Dad and Johnny?" Sam looked, offering Sadie a small smile as she stopped by her side.

"Not here." he said back. "Today, you train with me. Attention!"

They all stood up straighter. Chozen gave them a phrase in Japanese, everyone glanced at each other. He exhaled with a disappointed look. "Bow."

"Sadie." Eli whispered from behind her. "Are you Japanese?"

"No." she whispered back. "I'm American."

"But, originally." he whispered again. "Before you got adopted."

"No, that was Korea." she spoke backwards, straightening her posture when she saw Chozen looked at her.

. "Cobra Kai gaining ground. We must prepare. Come."

"This is gonna be badass. Check out that throwing knife." Assface whispered to Chris as they all gapped at Chozens choice of weapons.

"Hey." Sadie booty-bumped Sam. "What'd Robby have to say?"

Sam rose her eyebrows. "Is that a little
jealousy I smell?"

"Whatttt?" Sadie rolled her eyes. "I'm just trying to make conversation, woman."

"Now, we learn about Yanbaru Kuina." Chozen explained to the group.

"What is that? Like, some top-secret karate move?" Chris smiled widely. "Like a throat rip?"

"No. It is bird." Chozen corrected him. "In English called Okinawa rail. Endangered. Cannot fly."

"Hence, endangered." Demetri rocked on his heels.

Chozen pulled out a dozen eggs and removed the cloth from them. Sadie got one for her and Sam. Miguel hummed"So these are the rail eggs?"

"No. Trader Joe. 3.29." Chosen shook his head, Sadie laughed. "What's funny, girl?"

"Nothing." Sadie promised him. "I like Trader Joe's a lot."

"Ah, me too." he gave her a bright smile.

"So, what do we do with them?" Sam brought the conversation back to the eggs.

"Yanbaru Kuina must protect egg." Chozen went on as an explanation. "From Kume Shima habu. Poison snake. Protect egg like Yanbaru Kuina. You must do same."

He turned the hourglass upside down. "Begin your preparation."

"What are we protecting them from?" Robby gave a questionable look.

"Me." Chosen pointed as He waved his set of weapons around with a yell. "Go! Go!"

Sadie gave Sam a grin. "If I win, do you wanna buy dinner?"

"You won't win, but yeah." Sam smiled, giving her a quick peak on the lips before they ran off.

Sadie's perfect hiding place was the pond. Bert and Nathan hung out on the wheel, but she found it better with the koi and letting the egg float. She had to smile at herself. "There, Chicken Embryo. All safe and se-"

Chozen shoved Sadie into the pond, the weight and shallow waters caused herself to crush the egg. She swam up, spitting water from her mouth as the white tee soaked through, her cheap mascara started to run. Chozen rose his eyebrows. "Watch back!"

"Guess it's a chicken abortion now." she huffed, pulling herself out of the pound while Chozen went to Nathan and Bert. She squeezed the water from her shirt, but the boys had known her for so long now that it wasn't even an uncomfortable matter how soaked through it was.

Demetri rose his eyebrows. "Take a swim?"

"I don't wanna talk about it." she huffed and flopped on the rock, water collecting in a large puddle beneath her.

"How'd he take you out?" Robby asked Eli curiously.

"Shut up. Don't talk to me." he glared back at him.

"Dude, if this is about the Mohawk, i'm sorry." Robby exhaled, clearly trying to break the clear hatred between them. "But if anybody knows how Cobra Kai can turn you into an asshole, it's you."

Sadie looked over in disbelief. "Dude."

"So i'm an asshole?" Eli scoffed.

"Yeah, well, let's see." Robby pretended to think. "Uh, you attacked me and Sam at the mall. You cheated on your girlfriend. You-you broke Demetris arm. You trashed this entire dojo."

"Like you're so much better!" Sadie defended Eli as she stood up to be on his height. "Want me to list off the shit you've done? Like, let me think, almost murder Miguel and then ran from it like a little bitch."

"Guys! Enough! Enough! All right?" Demetri cut in fast, pushing between the two as Sadie just kept getting closer and closer. "You're all ex-asshoels now. Great. Can we focus on the issue at hand?"

"What?" Sadie gave him a dumb look.

"There is a madman out there using weapons on us." Demetri pointed to the last place he'd seen Chozen.

"Who's even left?" Chris questioned.

"Sam." Sadie looked around. "And Miguel."

Though, it wasn't long before they were both found and Sam hung her head low by Sadie's side.

Chozen was crouched down. "You are not good Yanbaru Kuina."

He stood up and looked at the teens. "Snakes will take you down one by one. I tried to tell you what you must do. But you do not listen. You must learn to adapt. Or soon, you will be extinct. Take new eggs. Try again."

Sam brought the cartoon to the boys and Sadie as they each took one. Demetri sighed. "Sensei Toguchi's real cryptic, like Mr.LaRusso, but aggressive like Sensei Lawrence."

"It's like the hardest part of both styles." Chris agreed with his words.

"Can't wait to get our asses kicked again." Mitch clutched the egg in his palm as they all began to spread out.

"Like that's new to you." Sadie laughed.

"Sadie." Sam scolded her sudden attitude. "Why are you being rude?"

"Sorry, Robby is throwing my vibe off." she huffed, shaking her head. "Let's just go fail this lesson again."

"Uh. No. No. No." Anthony stumbled over his words to encourage them back. "G-guys wait."

"Jesus." Sadie rubbed the bridge of her nose to brace herself.

"All right, he said that, uh, the snakes will take us down one by one." Anthony explained with a nod. "Right? It-It-Just like he took us down one by one, but...but what if we weren't a bunch of ones? Like, what if we were..."

"Together." Sam finished for him.

"Yeah, exactly." he agreed. "Like, um, a raiding party in Dungeon Lords."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah!" Demetri caught on fast with a smile. "I mean, even if you're a level 85, you can't mount an attack on the grand realm alone."

"Exactly. He needed a team!" Eli nodded fadt. "Everyone has a special role."

Anthony sighed. "Sadie, come on. Your turn to say something so I can continue."

Her eyebrows shot up. "Oh. Um...yeah!"

"The only way we win is if we work together. As one." Anthony thought that was enough.

It didn't take long to put their eggs together, stacked in a bucket hat. Demetri was skeptical. "So, we're sure we want to put all our eggs in one basket? You're specifically not supposed to do that."

"This is gonna work." Anthony spoke, hope in his tone.

"Yeah." Sadie agreed.

Sam hid a smile. "Is that all you have to say today?"

"Yeah." Sadie grinned back.

Chozens loud whistle echoed as Mitch looked to Chris . "Oh no, oh no. Oh god!"

"Get it together, penis breath." Eli rolled his eyes as they all locked arms tightly.

"Has anyone seen him yet?" Sam looked around.

Sadie's eyes followed Chozens shadow. "There!"

"Oh shit." Miguel yelled. "Ready!"

Eli caught the bo first, shoving it away as Robby cut in and kicked it away. Miguel ducking under Chozens bo and shoving it forward. "Sadie, you're on my team."

"Oh, god. That's right!" she remembered the plan, diving for Chozens waist and knocking him back on the ground, he used the bo to smack her off of him.

"Get the bo!" Migeul called as the group all did so, Anthony helped Sadie to her feet. Chozen ducked under it, sliding across the deck. Sam grunted as she kicked his way, having her blocked before she tried to swing at him. Miguel went to help her, kicking until Sam caught his arm but was shoved away. Sadie came to their rescue, tricking Chozen to convince him she was gonna hit, but she kicked him back.Robby and Eli shared a look before kicking him on sync, Sadie pulled the second of weakness out of him coming to their advantage. Chozen spun around toward Demetri so he could kick him in the chest before retreating back with the group, guarding Anthony and the hat of eggs.

Chozen stared as he went to charge again, but they all stayed on sync to keep him guarded. He stood up straight. "Snake, concede."

"Dude, it worked!" Eli lifted Anthony off the ground.

"Guess we have to split the bill." Sadie offered Sam a smirk as she nudged her back.

"This is what we have that Cobra Kai does not." Chozen confirmed, catching his breath. "Their movement mile wide, but only inch deep. But our movement, inch wide, but mile deep. Now that you have learned to work together, I will teach you how to master your defense."
