Chapter Fifteen: Sam: Open Your Eyes

"There's nothing else I can do for her." Janet responded. Her voice was low, and soft, but it wasn't reassuring. No! I'm here! Why can't they hear me? Sam was frustrated. Would she be like this forever, with her conscience suspended inside her cold, corpse-like body? You can't think like that! Her conscience yelled. They will find you.
She heard Janet as she left the room, but she was unaware of the Colonel's presence. She was still screaming on the inside when she felt a sudden warmth; a hand was grasping hers gently and carefully. "I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry you might not ever make it to Colonel." She heard his movement but still couldn't see a thing.
"I'd miss you, you know. If anything happened..." his voice broke off as his grip on her hand grew stronger.
"I care about you..."

Sam hugged Daniel tightly, and tears were streaming down her face. "I missed you." She replied. Daniel was silent, but she could tell by his facial expresion that he had missed her, too. He had been gone for so long, and the whole team had assumed he was dead. She hadn't understood his acension like the others did, but now she understood.
"Are you guys coming?" Jack asked. Sam and Daniel turned to face him and Sam wiped her eyes. She didn't feel any embarrassment, instead, her mood lightened. The whole group was together again, cracking jokes and talking of recent missions. Everything was perfect, at least, for now. She could only hope that Daniel could stick around for a little while, if not forever.

She watched as Teal'c was speaking to his son, R'yac. It was amazing how much he'd already grown, from being a little boy, to a teenaged warrior. The young man still had a long way to go as far as the other Jaffa were concerned, but Teal'c was proud of his son. Times were changing for the Jaffa and Sam could hardly believe that so many of them were now allies.
It's getting late, she thought, as she glanced down at her watch. She decided to stay in her quarters at the SGC tonight, since the team had big plans for tomorrow. Since when do we not have plans? She wondered.
Sam anticipated a long rest as she walked to her quarters. As she walked down the hallway, she bumped into a Jaffa woman who was guiding a child. Tbe child's eyes grew bigger as he looked up at Sam, and his mother scolded him for running into her. Sam smiled and the boy smiled back, ignoring his mother's words.
Sam wondered what it would be like to have children, but she pushed the thought away. She couldn't hardly keep a date as it was. But she couldn't help but think of what it would be like if things had been different....
