Chapter Two
Lee remained still, standing at the bottom of the ramp for a moment before she hurried from the Gate room and searched out Oliver. "Ollie, what are you doing?"
"I'm going to go and get some sleep." He gestured toward the door he stood in front of.
"All right, but why here? Why aren't you going home?"
He sighed. "I thought I told you to stop trying to baby me? I'm tired, Lee, it's late and I want to go to bed so I figured I'd stay on base. Is that all right with you?"
"Yeah, fine, whatever. Night." She spun away and left him standing there. That guy might look like her brother but it wasn't him, not completely. Something was wrong and she intended to figure out what. Oliver liked his expensive, super-back-supporting, fancy mattress. It didn't matter how late it was, he'd go home instead of sleeping here in the not so back friendly military issue beds. It took her a few minutes to find Mal, she found him as he exited the locker room. "Colonel!"
Mal stopped and turned to her. "What is it, Captain?"
"I think it's very important that we keep an eye on Oliver."
He sighed. "Captain, we already covered this, there is nothing wrong with your brother. Go home, get some rest and let your brother do the same."
"He won't go home! He's staying on base tonight, you don't find that a little odd?"
"No, not at all. Van is staying. He said he's too tired to drive home. He muttered something about tired drivers not being a good thing and he'd rather go over notes with Dr. Jackson. Go home, rest, and I'm sure everything will be fine in the morning."
"Fine, whatever," she grumbled. There didn't seem to be much point in continuing to argue with him, he was dead set on keeping to his opinion that Oliver was fine.
"Good night, Captain, get some rest."
She remained where she was and watched him walk away. "Yeah, I am not doing that." She spun and went back down the hallway. If Oliver was up to something then she was going to find out what it was. She went straight to one of the labs, found it empty and moved to the next one where she found a couple of scientists working. "Hey, uh ... you two there."
The two scientists in the room looked up at her. "Captain Kain?"
"I need some kind of surveillancey-type equipment."
"Some what now?" the woman asked.
"A small camera or alarm-thing so I can keep an eye on someone and know if they go anywhere."
"Is this for a mission?"
"Uh, yeah, sure totally." She held out a hand. "So what do you got?"
The woman stepped away from the desk she was hovering over. "We have this small camera. You can mount it just about anywhere." She held the small camera out to her.
"Whoa, this is cool."
"Yeah, we adapted some Goa'uld technology. They have those long range communication ball things, this is sort of like those but better."
"Perfect. Thanks."
"Wait, don't you want to know how it works?"
Lee waved a hand back at them. "I'm good!" she called back. She turned and hurried from the room. It took her a few minutes to mount the camera above the door of the room across from where Oliver was staying. It took her another few minutes to figure out how to sync her phone to the camera. Once that was done, she slipped into the room and shut the door quietly. "Right. Now I wait." She settled into a chair and set her phone beside her. If Oliver left that room she'd know it.
Lee jerked awake when her phone emitted a small tone. "What?" She rubbed her eyes and looked at the screen of her phone. "Oliver." She stood and stretched with a groan. "Definitely shouldn't have fallen asleep in that chair." She watched as Oliver hesitated a moment in the hallway outside the room, then he turned and headed in the direction of the Gate room.
Lee pulled the door open slowly and followed him. "Where are you going at three in the morning, Ollie?" she said quietly. She kept her distance and followed him all the way to the control room. "Yeah, this can't be good." She crept up the stairs after him and peered into the room. She frowned as he stepped up beside the Airman manning the control room.
Oliver wrapped the man in chokehold until he passed out.
Lee sucked in a breath. "Ha! I knew I was right! That is not my brother!"
Oliver pulled out a small device and clicked a button on it. There were a few moments of nothing as he stood there staring at the device. Then the Gate whirred and his head snapped up so he was staring through the window into the Gate room, seconds later the Gate connected. He placed his palm on the reader to open the iris. She moved into the room so she could see the Gate. The surface of the event horizon rippled and Nesrin stepped through the Gate.
"Shit. Shit. Shit." She backed quickly from the room and hurried down the stairs. "Need to get the Colonel," she muttered as she ran down the corridors. She skidded around a corner, darted down the hallway and pounded a fist on Mal's door. "Colonel, wake up! Colonel!"
The door opened. "Captain, what the hell?" He scratched at his bare chest before he dragged a hand through his hair. "It's late or early ... what do you want and why are you still here?"
"I told you something was wrong with Oliver! He just let the frickin' Alliance through the Gate!" she screamed.
"Hold on, calm down, did you say Oliver let the Alliance onto the base?"
"That is exactly what I said! Foothold, Colonel, we have a Foothold situation! The worst damn kind because that crazy bitch Nesrin is here!"
"Head to the armory, grab Van and Dr. Jackson on your way there. The two were working in Jackson's office last I saw them. Knowing them I'm sure they're still there. I'll meet you there."
"Wait, we should stick together!"
"I need to lock down the mountain before Nesrin and her men can get out."
"Right, yeah, good plan. I'll see you in the armory." She spun and darted down the hallway.
Mal grabbed his shirt, pulled it on then sat down, he glanced a the clock with a sigh. "A three a.m. hostile takeover was not on my to do list today," he muttered as he yanked his boots on and tied them. He pulled his backup weapon from the drawer and left for the Gate room. "No one is taking over this mountain while I'm here." He made his way to the control room and ducked inside. Through the window that looked into the Gate room he saw Oliver speaking with Nesrin and several other Alliance soldiers, probably some of her Seconds. There was no time for him to contemplate the why of things, he needed to lock everything down. He typed his command code into the computer as quickly as he could, hit enter and ran from the room. He needed to get to the armory and find the others.
Lee rushed into Dr. Jackson's office. "Van, let's go!"
"Lee, what's going on?"
"Long story but we need to get to the armory now!"
Daniel looked from Van to her. "Well ... I mean an explanation would be nice."
Lee made a sound of frustration. "Oliver bad. Gate open. Nesrin here. Let's go!"
"Nesrin?" Van jumped up from his seat. "How did Nesrin get onto the base?"
"Which part of 'Oliver bad' did you not get? I told you guys there was something off about him. Let's go. Now!" She left before either of them could say another word.
Van looked at Daniel. "So ... uh ..."
"We should probably follow her. Right?" Daniel asked.
"Yeah, we should." They rushed after Lee.
Lee didn't even look back when they fell into step behind her. "Keep it moving, boys. We need weapons and we have to keep the Alliance from getting off the base."
"Why would Oliver let the Alliance onto the base?" Van asked.
"I don't know, Van, let's capture his ass and find out!"
"The Alliance has a Goa'uld mind control device, they could have brainwashed him," Daniel said.
"That sounds like a good guess," Lee replied. "Colonel Hughes is going to meet us here as soon as he locks the mountain down." She swiped her card and the armory door opened.
"What if Colonel Hughes doesn't show up?" Daniel asked her as they gathered weapons.
"We'll wait a few minutes, if he doesn't show up then we go kick the Alliance's ass on our own."
"Yeah ... that could be difficult."
She turned to him. "Dr. Jackson, would you rather go hide in your office?"
"That isn't what I'm saying ... I simply think we need to think this through."
Mal came into the room. "The mountain is locked down. They won't be getting out of here anytime soon but we need to hurry."
"Why?" Van asked.
"Because the second Nesrin discovers she's locked inside this mountain you can bet your ass she'll set Oliver to work on bypassing the lockout."
"Can he do that?" Van directed the question to Lee.
"If anyone can, it's Oliver. Now what do we do, Colonel?"
"We arm ourselves and we kill as many of them as we can before he can override the lockdown." He grabbed a P90 and checked it. "If he does that then they can dial the Gate and bring in more men and we don't want that."
"Colonel, what about Oliver?" Lee asked.
He sighed. "Captain, we can't count on him."
"I'm not going to shoot my brother." She grabbed a Zat and waved it at him. "We knock him out."
"Fine, but only if you can do it without compromising the base."
"Colonel!"
"I'm sorry, Kain, but if it comes down to protecting this base and Earth, that takes precedence."
"I am not going to shoot Oliver!" She scowled at him. "And you better not either or I will be much more than simply cross with you!"
"Hey, it looks like we weren't invited to the party. I'm quite sad about that," Vala said as she sauntered into the armory. "Daniel, darling, good to see you're all right."
Halley stepped into the room after her.
Daniel cleared his throat. "Yes, well, as all right as one can be when the base has been infiltrated by the Lucian Alliance."
"I'm glad to see that you're all right, Evander. I was worried when you weren't in Dr. Jackson's office," Halley said.
"Lee came and got us."
"I say we go and kick the Alliance out of here." Vala grinned and grabbed a P90, a Zat, and a sidearm. "Shall we?"
Mal took a Zat from Lee when she offered it. "We will do our best to subdue Oliver but if he fights back—"
"Then all bets are off, yes, sir, I understand."
He nodded. "All right, Vala, you and Daniel together.
"Mmm, gladly," Vala said with a wink at Daniel.
"Van, you go with Lieutenant Ogden and Lee, you're with me. Let's go kick the Alliance out of our home. Stay on channel twelve. Hopefully they will only be monitoring two since Oliver knows we use that one as a standard." He strode from the room.
"Be careful," Lee told the others before she followed Mal. "Colonel, how exactly are you planning on getting rid of the Alliance?"
"By shooting as many of them as I can."
"That's not exactly a plan, sir."
"It's the best we have. Let's go, we need to work our way back to the control room. If Nesrin can't find a way out of the mountain she'll have Oliver find a way to dial out so they can leave before we catch her. We can't let her get away. I'm tired of this bitch it's time we took her out of commission."
"I will second that, sir."
He turned to her to say something. "Drop, Captain!" he shouted.
Lee collapsed to the floor and Mal fired at the three Alliance soldiers who were coming down the hallway behind her. She rolled to her back and sat up. "Nice shooting, sir."
"Great, let's move before more show up."
"Right behind you." Lee jumped to her feet and hurried after him.
